  1. well, that's a bit much.
  2. Wait - what happened there? Someone else can correct me, because Illinois boards are pretty unbearable on days like today so I only spent a minute or two reading, but: From what i gather, Ayo and THT are former AAU teammates. THT felt overshadowed, changed AAU teams to get more exposure. Certain parties, which may or may not have included Ayo (but definitely the AAU coaches), took exception and there was some animosity. Things seemed patched up, THT took an official visit to UI last weekend, and most experts were predicting him to choose Illinois tonight. A few hours before the announcement, Illinois pulled their offer based on pressure from the AAU coaches. THT committed to ISU. At least, that's what I gathered, and I'm not sure how much of that is verified information. tl;dr AAU coaches are slime. Here's a story on what happened: https://www.suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2017/10/26/why-illinois-passed-on-simeons-talen-horton-tucker/
  3. yeah, that whole THT situation is a mess. Nice get for ISU since he's apparently not allowed to come to Illinois. Wait - what happened there? 4. what the hell, just get rid of 'em both.

  6. And you probably get better gals than us too! joke's on him a poster on this message board had sex just last week
  7. This is where we disagree. He's not. And as good as he is, he has flaws and he can get better. As many 24-25 year olds do. Even Barry Bonds or Mike Trout. And I'm not sure coaching is the answer. But how are you guys so sure coaching isn't the answer? The Cubs fired Bosio when you'd think Arrieta alone would've been worth some job security. And the historic 2016 pitching season. And I love it how everyone likes to use the word "meatball" so freely to describe any opinion that differs from theirs. And ridicule their opinions. This is so horsefeathering condescending and disdainful. God, how annoying is it when people throw around the term "meatball" here. Some people think they are so horsefeathering smart on an internet message board. For all I know, you guys who like to call other people meatball live in your parents basement. I know I don't. everyone get a load of the meatball.
  8. As far as specific names, I have no clue. I don't follow baseball closely enough to have specific names. Heck I can probably only name two hitting coaches in baseball, and that would just be guessing ex-cub coaches and Jacque Jones. Teams that I think have a good approach from what I've seen, the Astros, Brewers, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Indians. But those are for the most part, just really good offenses with really good players. Again, I think the Cubs are in good hands, I just also think there might be room for improvement (see above). the brewers rank in the bottom half of baseball in every meaningful offensive category except BB%, where they're 11th. let's cross them off the list of teams to emulate.
  9. i mean, this isn't really an example of why you don't build a team through free agency. heyward was a 26-year-old coming of 6.1 and 5.1 win seasons the previous two years. he just fell apart.
  10. it gets even better in 2019 when you add harper to the mix.
  11. Reed, Swarzak, Nicasio, Kintzler and Shaw are the names that jump out at me. Lots of options from the right side. McGee is the only lefty there that intrigues me. Last offseason there was talk of trading for Colome or Edwin Diaz. Both kind of had down years this season, but I'd still be interested in either. Can they be had at the right price, and are their down years cause for long-term concern?
  12. all these guards are going to be so damn fun.
  13. yeah, i'm feeling pretty good heading into the announcement. every writer out there seems quite confident he'll choose illinois. but of course, i'm leaving room for the usual illinois-recruitment disappointment.
  14. There was an article a year or two ago that talked about expansion and relocation. If I remember correctly, the general plan was to relocate Oakland and Tampa first and then add two expansion teams, so the end result is 32 teams with 4 new cities getting franchises. I'm curious if that's still the goal and what other two cities would wind up with franchises. I want to say Nashville, Indiana, Mexico City, Puerto Rico, a third Texas team, and the Carolinas were all mentioned as possibilities at that time. I'm not so worried about diluting talent, as the expansion of the talent pool (population growth, international signings, etc.) has outpaced the expansion of the league. But it is definitely a concern as to whether there are cities out there to support franchises. I'm not a traditionalist by any means, but getting rid of the NL/AL setup would take some getting used to.

  16. Walked a couple guys also though. Yeah, he had a couple of close misses on full counts, he hadn't had his command desert him. And he finished the inning by inducing weak contact from the last 2 hitters. If you want to go to the bullpen there, fine. He threw a couple pitches on Thursday, 3rd time thru the order, 2 runs given up last inning. But giving him a short leash in the 6th would've been fine too. Right, the walks weren't such that I lost faith in him. He was trying to make pitches on the outside edge and missing close.
  17. 12 pitches. You're watching the game right? He was finished. Yes. At 89 pitches, one hard hit and two walks that weren't so much wild as they were nibbling on the outside edge, I'll take my chances on another inning from him over trying to squeeze 4 outta this bullpen that's taxed and struggling mightily.
  18. Because he's done since he just pitched 2 days ago. 12 pitches.
  19. I generally love Joe, but man what a dumb decision.
  20. Lmao this and the tactical advantage tweet or what the "shot, chaser" meme was made for.
  21. This still haunts me.
  22. Heyward against a lefty is weird but it looks like we're going for a combination of super defense lineup and destroy lefties lineup.
