  1. Lol. Up and down seems like a perfectly reasonable description of Mitch’s performance. There was even a “more up than down” qualifier.
  2. Whoa I don’t even remember this name
  3. Yeah depending on the +, I’m good with all this. I think they’d still need one more reliever and a couple small pieces on the offensive side, but if these are the main moves made I’ll be happy with the shape the team is in.
  4. i don’t see archer’s name so it doesn’t sound good.
  5. I'm starting to think it'd take 2 of them, if you're actually going to convince Tampa or Toronto to deal Archer or Stroman. Yeah, I'm thinking for one of those two, it'd take two of Happ/Almora/Schwarber and prospects (or just Russell plus some prospects?). The alternative would be the Happ-for-closer type trade that was being discussed here a few days ago, and then one of the other two for a mid/back of the rotation controllable starter (ideally a younger pitcher with upside).
  6. if that happens, i wonder if it'd be two players going in the same deal to land one of the top flight pitchers out there, or separately to address both closer and the rotation.
  7. ok, yeah, was only half paying attention. i didn't see the replays showing him losing control.
  8. wait how is that a touchback?
  9. B2B approves. \:D/
  10. All of the old Cubs.com people, remember that guy that faked his death by pretending to be his own brother going online to say goodbye after he had drowned in a boating accident? Then he showed up a couple months later to say it was research for a paper he was writing for a psychology class. Good times. this happened on a baseball message board i used to visit as well, appropriately named baseball.com. the dude was dating another poster on the site and roped her into it to post that he died in a car accident. it was bizarre. and then he came clean a few days later and everyone just kind of forgot it even happened.
  11. i'm still reeling from the time we got catfished by PetermanRealityTour.
  12. interestingly enough, David is the only real person here
  13. are...are you guys all real?
  14. i thought it was about that michael chiklis show
  15. Can we please have an off season without people thinking of Teheran as an attractive target? I don't really like him but a Happ for him or Folty + Inciarte intrigues me a bit. I’ve been a big fan of Enciarte as an option for the top of the order for a few years. Good (although not stellar) OBP, strong contact skills, and a positive on the base paths to go along with good fielding. Super team-friendly contract too. Not sure the Braves are inclined to deal him though.
  16. horsefeathers. this sucks.
  17. Not necessarily. Could be that a finalist doesn't make the playoffs. Could be that the finalist is on the other side of the playoff bracket. Could be that the finalist is on your team. This year the Nationals and Dodgers faced a finalist in zero of their NL playoff games. Valid points. How many Cy Young finalists are there? 3. Last year, Kluber was the only Cy Young finalist the Cubs faced throughout the playoffs. In 2015, they faced zero.
  18. I have a hard time blaming Theo for signing a 26-year old position player that had already accumulated nearly 28 WAR to a big deal. It just didn't work. What's the point of pinning blame?
  19. good lord, no. and what is with this idea that Russell needs to prove his defense? he led the NL in DRS in a shortened season.
  20. i horsefeathering hate that theriot has two world series rings
  21. lol that's amazing. he throws like 7 pitches. lou cannellis is literally always wrong.
  22. yeah, I feel bad for THT that the situation played out like it did. But Underwood made the right decision in a tough situation. The official visit probably shouldn't have happened, but we don't know the exact timeline of when conversations took place. Underwood and Chin Coleman probably felt confident they could sort things out. But, given the ultimatum, of course you take Ayo. And THT will be just fine at ISU. If Underwood's offense does what it's supposed to, he'll have no problem drawing talent to champaign.
  23. well, that's a bit much.
  24. Wait - what happened there? Someone else can correct me, because Illinois boards are pretty unbearable on days like today so I only spent a minute or two reading, but: From what i gather, Ayo and THT are former AAU teammates. THT felt overshadowed, changed AAU teams to get more exposure. Certain parties, which may or may not have included Ayo (but definitely the AAU coaches), took exception and there was some animosity. Things seemed patched up, THT took an official visit to UI last weekend, and most experts were predicting him to choose Illinois tonight. A few hours before the announcement, Illinois pulled their offer based on pressure from the AAU coaches. THT committed to ISU. At least, that's what I gathered, and I'm not sure how much of that is verified information. tl;dr AAU coaches are slime. Here's a story on what happened: https://www.suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2017/10/26/why-illinois-passed-on-simeons-talen-horton-tucker/
  25. yeah, that whole THT situation is a mess. Nice get for ISU since he's apparently not allowed to come to Illinois. Wait - what happened there?
