  1. i don't agree with the direction necessarily, but Posey, McCutchen, and Longoria in the same lineup is fun. obviously it would have been more fun 5 years ago, but still. i also think the giants are still pegged for 4th place, although maybe they can overtake the rockies.
  2. lol the yankees interest in darvish is so real they’re willing to give him $16 million a year
  3. I was always dubious on how real their interest/financial ability was for Darvish and how much he wanted to go there. I never really saw them as a threat unless they really went over the top on a offer (which I don't believe they could really afford). I view them more as a Cobb/Lynn landing spot or some of the bargain/risk guys like Tillman, Garcia, etc. Oh, I definitely agree with this, but it's still probably a good thing to see one of our four known competitors for Darvish allocate a decent amount of money elsewhere.
  4. Given that the twins are a team that’s been mentioned in relation to Darvish all offseason, does this do anything to decrease their likelihood of signing him? $8.5 million a year isn’t a small amount for teamlike the twins. And yeah, I really liked Reed as an option for us, but it seems like the Cubs have been focusing on other things.
  5. that's good so he's able to name like six of his kids after him before he has to start doubling up
  6. alright, so where do we stand in relation to the luxury tax?
  7. why are you posting [take your pick out of like 37 posters here]’s avatar image?
  8. ugh. what a downgrade. zaidman is terrible. i can't stand grote so i don't really care either way i find his inflection and the way he exaggeratedly enunciates many words insanely grating. i actually think i was confusing Zaidman and Dickerson from ESPN. is Dickerson the insanely meatbally dude that was one of the more irrationally anti-cutler guys out there? (i realize there's a lot of guys that fit that bill.) i do know zaidman's voice annoys me.
  9. ugh. what a downgrade. zaidman is terrible.
  10. my thought all along has been that a deal doesn't get done without including happ and almora. but i don't even think twice about pulling the trigger.
  11. no, i guess it does not.
  12. this feels like a great thing for the cubs on multiple fronts.
  13. man, so much smug in one front office between preller and cameron.
  14. petition to call tank w's wanks
  15. the only Cubs Convention I've ever been to was '04. i was absolutely certain that Maddux was going to come out during introductions. i think everyone was.
  16. lol, who was the safe experienced coaching choice? john fox
  17. I think it’s one or the other, not both. Right. He means contingent on whether it’s yelich or Cain. One is a trade (ostensibly precluding a trade for a pitcher) the other is a signing (allowing for a trade for a pitcher). Well, yes, the Cubs also need a pitcher.
  18. this feels like the si,ultaneous csstro trade and zobrist signing there has to be something else happening contingent upon yelich and cain I think it’s one or the other, not both.
  19. i knew the mulaney bit, but didn’t realize it had been turned into a meme. either way, it’s perfect.
  20. re: Cobb. i lost interest in him when we first heard of the $20 million aav demands, but now even if his price comes back down, i can't help but feel let down if that's who we end up with after being connected to darvish, machado, yelich and i guess throw jake in there too.
  21. he's just got his hands full with the Franken 2020 campaign.
  22. Since when has Heymans opinion on football ever mattered his opinion on anything has never mattered
  23. jon heyman is not impressed [tweet] [/tweet]
  24. were jimmy and rose ever elite at the same time though? legitimately asking. rose hasn't been peak rose for a long time now. i think if enough of these guys continue to show promise the order is: try to package a few of them and picks for star #1, and hopefully that star is enough to attract star #2 via free agency. I was meaning Noah. Maybe using "elite" was too strong of a word with him. But, he was a great second piece, for trying to lure LeBron and Co. ah, ok. yeah, even his peak--when he was making all-star teams, winning DPOY, and had the offense kind of running through him--was after rose fell off. he was certainly an attractive piece when lebron and co. were out there, but yeah, 2 elite guys is probably overstating it a bit.
