  1. Last year in the 2nd they balked on Devin Hester, at the last minute. Not a good round for them of late. I'm glad we balked on Hester. I know he's beloved here and it's basically blasphemy that I wouldn't want him :wink: , but where we were last year he would have brought little to us. We still had Pacman who is probably nearly or as good as Hester returning the ball and I don't know that Hester would be better at corner or receiver than what we already have. Therefore, I'm surprised that we didn't take him. We seem to like taking people who aren't significant upgrades to what we already have.
  2. Just thought I'd give my feelings on the Titans horrible day. To sum it up quickly: It sucked. In the first round with very good wide receiver Robert Meachem and also very good defensive end Anthony Spencer sitting there who do we take? Michael Griffin. Not the best player at his position (Reggie Nelson was) and that position WASN'T EVEN OUR BIGGEST NEED. Most opinions I heard on him after the pick? "He's too stiff," "I'm surprised the Titans went for this safety." Second round, we take a running back (after taking a running back in the second round last season) who put up 3.5 yards per carry at Arizona. I realize there are a number of Pac-10 fans on the board that may take exception to this, but the Pac-10 defense is not generally the strong suit of the conference. And Chris Henry managed 3.5 yards per carry in it. Jamal Lewis carried for that and people are calling him old and washed up - at 26 years old. Doesn't bode well for Henry. Third round. Oh, the third round. Charles Johnson, a good defensive end, Jonathan Wade, a very good CB, Johnnie Lee Higgins, a productive WR, were all there plus other good players and we take Paul Williams. A non-productive player at Fresno State. Great. He has all the tools, but he did next to nothing his senior year at Fresno State. He's no better than Courtney Roby, Roydell Williams and Brandon Jones who we have at receiver now. Why take him? We needed a receiver sure - but we needed an impact receiver that could be a #1 type of guy (Robert Meachem would have fit the bill perfectly, too bad he wasn't available when we picked - oh, wait :oops: he was :evil: ). So yeah, I am extremely unhappy with our first day picks. Two of our three picks were high talent, zero production guys (Henry and Williams) and the other was the second best player available AT HIS POSITION. I just hope Mike Reinfeldt can pull a Floyd Reese and have a great second day. Probably not, I'm in a pessimistic mood right now.
  3. If it was "Tin Ginn" you'd be perfectly right. I think everyone misunderstands how much the media overrates Brady Quinn, and how underrate how much professional football teams don't care for him. I'm a fins fan and I hate this pick. I didn't want Brady Quinn either. I agree that he's highly overrated. I want Okoye or trade down to take Ginn. You can't take Ginn at #9. STUPID. NFL Network's reporting Texans would have taken Ginn had the Dolphins not. Hmmm. Well that would have been a bad pick for the Texans. Ginn should go in the 14-17 range, IMO. Talent wise Ginn's a top 10 pick. The main reason he dropped is the injury in the National Championship and whether that affected his #1 quality - speed.

  5. Looking at the teams, it looks liek the next team with a QB need is KC at number 23 :shock: St. Louis or Carolina could take him to back up their starters. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see Jax take him.
  6. Yes. NFL Network >>>>>> ESPN. Could not agree more.
  7. Apparently the Titans have been talking with Detroit about Mike Williams. I'd love that if we give no more than a fifth. Absolutely no more than a fourth. Considering the Pats have offered a 6th for Randy Moss, I think you don't have much to worry about. 6th or 7th is even better. I like the idea of reuniting him with Norm Chow.

  9. His concern is who produces and who doesn't. I honestly thought he'd give Izzy a little more time, but I'm not complaining about the move. Am I understanding right that he said in the postgame that Theriot's the new SS fulltime (or at least mostly)? Yes, he said Theriot will start at SS. Good news. Unlike many on here, I don't despise Izzy, but the fact is he's not doing anything productive right now and we can't afford it. Hopefully he'll contribute later, but right now I like Theriot at short. Good move, Lou. :D I despise him and I'm glad he will be benched. I actually hope he gets traded or released. Lou did the right thing and move Theriot to SS. I wouldn't cut Izzy. He has value because of his (usually) excellent defense and thus would likely bring a decent return in a deadline trade. I doubt he'd bring a great deal, but likely enough to justify not cutting him. Hey, no problem to me as long as he doesn't start I'm happy. I'd be perfectly happy with Theriot starting everyday at SS and Izzy coming in as a defensive replacement with late leads. That allows him enough playing time to try to improve his trade value but not take too much from Theriot's production.

  11. Just heard on PTI that Larry Brown is reportedly interviewing for the Grizzlies head coaching job. :shock: I'm really not sure if I like this or not. It seems good, but he appears to have a veteran fetish and that wouldn't meld well with our team.

  13. I didn't quite take it that way. He said that Theriot did a nice job today. I didin't hear him say at any point that Ryan was the new everyday SS. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if he is in fact the new everyday SS. Which he should be IMO. He may get a test run, of sorts, and Lou will make sure he produces. If he does, I see no reason why Lou wouldn't put him there everyday. Right now, Izzy is not getting the job done.

  15. =D> Ok, this my last anti-Red Sox/Yankees post.
  16. Perhaps only one more start. They can skip him the next go around and then he may start or Guz may be ready. I see no reason for more than one more start for Miller.
  17. I don't see why DeRosa has anything to do with it. He was a risky signing, granted, and I was one of many that weren't fully on board at the time, but he's turned out to be valuable so far (it is still early). Having DeRosa doesn't guarantee Theriot will be on the bench. If Theriot plays well and Izturis doesn't, I've seen no indication Riot won't play over Izzy. Also, Aramis and DeRosa will need days off so there's more playing time for Theriot, plus the outfielders will need some days off and when DeRosa spells them (which won't be a lot, but I expect some) there's even more time for Theriot. Adding DeRosa only gave us more good depth. That's all.
  18. I don't take issue with cutting Miller and starting Guzman now. But, Lou and, I suppose, Rothschild felt that Guzman would make a great reliever. So it's not that they didn't take a chance on him, they just took a chance on him in the bullpen. It was working until we found that Miller no longer had it (I know some on here predicted this). Now, I haven't heard anything from Hendry, Lou, or Rothschild to indicate that they are less than willing to put Guz in the rotation. I also don't have a problem with them not taking a chance on Marmol, Marshall, etc. after what we saw last year. They clearly weren't ready and I don't want them to be the first option while we're still clearly fighting for the playoffs.
  19. Rich Hill's ERA+ is 964. And to think I got him around the 12th round of my fantasy draft. Awesome. 8-)
  20. So was I. But I am sure that by tomorrow morning I will be annoyed with how much press it will get. I can only imagine how many times it will be on ESPN. Non-stop until the next Red Sox/Yankees series I'm sure. Then they'll play it a few times during each of those games. Then it'll win an ESPY.
  21. journeyman, he made a few starts for the Cubs last year (and sucked) and pitched a little bullpen in september. Ever since spring training he's been lights out. I just don't get it. Those stats Fred posted clearly show how terrible he was last year, the only bright spot being his high K rate, which was completely overshadowed by his inability to prevent hits or walks. Oh, and I guess it's spelled "Walrond". Looking at his Baseball Cube stats I can see that he's really just been everywhere, never really finding success. The guy is 30 now! I keep thinking that "Walrond" is a cross between a Walnut and and Almond, but I can't figure out where the stupid R comes from. It's a cross between *walrus* and almond. Every time I hear his name, I think of walrus'. Odd. Also, I seriously doubt - as bad as Miller's been - that O'Malley or Walrond would do any better. I'm not sure Marmol would right now either. I'll take Guzman personally. I agree about O'Malley and Walrond. They are AAA rotation filler and should not even remotely considered for the major league rotation. Pie seems to have the tools but the Cubs are too desperate for offense to stick with him right now. My guess is that he goes down any day now and they bring up Cherry to fortify the bullpen. When time comes to need the 5th starter again they bring up Guzman, send down Cherry and exile Miller to long relief. I don't see Hendry giving up on him just yet. First of all, he will want to be sure that Guzman can cut it so he will want him as insurance, secondly he probably would want to hold on to him in an effort to get something for him in a trade somewhere down the road. I don't know that we'll keep Miller after he leaves the rotation (hopefully now). First, Miller will be pissed at the demotion, second I doubt Lou will have any desire to go with a pitcher that has proven he no longer has what it takes. I think Hendry will realize this and cut Miller. If Guzman struggles, Jones and a prospect or two may be dangled for a starter. Or, Prior may eventually get healthy or they may give Marmol a shot. Once out of the rotation though, I expect Miller to no longer be with the team.
  22. So that Jon and Joe can rave about how this is just like a playoff game. :roll:

  24. Lord knows why. I'm pretty sure he played SS his whole time at LSU, and has played some SS in the minors. At worst he'd be adequate, and his bat is so much better than Izturis/Cedeno that it'd make up for the difference in defense. Yeah. My guess is they don't think his arm is strong enough to play SS, but hell that hasn't stopped Eckstein. I doubt Lou will keep going with Izturis if he continues to struggle. I also doubt Cedeno is long for the majors playing the way he is. Thus, I wouldn't be surprised to see Theriot begin to get some time at short soon. It seems that Lou is giving Izturis a little extra time - why, I'm not sure.
  25. He'd make a nasty possession receiver or tight end.
