  1. Mostly youngsters and some career journeymen (Yates in this group). Their payroll has dropped drastically the past few years giving them the need to try to catch lightning in the bottle. well clearly no one goes to their games anymore The Braves have a pretty good team. yep, but the payroll will go down if attendance is down Payroll's dropped since Ted Turner sold the team. Their problem is they were bought by a company (Time-Warner) interested only in making a profit.

Their payroll has dropped drastically the past few years giving them the need to try to catch lightning in the bottle. well clearly no one goes to their games anymore They haven't in many years. Braves fans became spoiled with success after 14 straight years of playoffs and basically quite showing up during the season. They just waited until the postseason. didn't they also not sell out playoff games? Not always, but they sold far more tickets in the postseason. The fanbase is still pretty sorry overall.

The rotation after Smoltz and Hudson is pretty weak. Offense and bullpen are nice, though.

  6. He's done. Fantastic start once again Rich. Nope. He's batting in the eighth. He's staying for another inning.
  7. How else could he say it? He was asked about being moved out of center to make room for Pie and said he was open to the idea. Logically, he would have to go to a different position for that to happen (Soriano is not going to the bench), thus bumping someone from the lineup.
  8. I'd rather keep Cedeno than acquire Aybar, as I don't see a lot of difference between the two. Blanton would be nice, but I don't think our OBP-depleted lineup can afford to lose Murton. If minor league numbers mean anything, Aybar will be the superior offensive player. Cedeno: .265/.316/.376/.692 (1924 AB) Aybar: .311/.356/.454/.810 (2216 AB) Aybar got help from the Texas League, California League and the mountain PCL division. Arkansas is +40% HRs relative to the TL. Salt Lake is about +15% HRs relative to the PCL. Rancho is about league average for the Cali which is a heckuva lot higher than the FSL average. Aybar's entire minor league career was at the highest offensive league in the level, and most of the time in one of the highest parks in that league. His minor league numbers have been heavily aided at every stop. Cedeno's are at the opposite end most of the time. Aybar's PECOTA .263/.306/.382 Ronny's PECOTA .265/.302/.388 Pretty damn close. What is it that people like about Aybar then? Not trying to start anything, I'm just curious. Aybar hit very well in the minors year in and year out. Ronny really only became a prospect 2 years ago. Yeah, I really like his minor league numbers but I'd be afraid they'd be inflated. Also, it worries me that Aybar has a similar PECOTA rating to Cedeno - who most of us regard as well out of his league and nothing more than a decent backup. Meph's comment about his tools is good, but I didn't expect it out of a stat guy. :D

  10. The New York Giants select T out of Northern Illinois Doug Free. The Giants have a depth issue on the offensive line and Free is a low 2nd, early 3rd value potentially. Luke Pettigout, their best tackle, is gone and David Diehl and Guy Whimper (great name) are his replacements. They also have Kareem McKenzie on the right side with no viable backup. And, at 6'6" 324, he could move to guard where they could also use quite a bit of depth. He's a very solid value in the late third round in my opinion. reggiemiller rules and the Rams are now on the clock. I will PM him.
  11. More like Todd Walker to me. I actually had to do a double take when he came up because he looked like Walker.
  12. Great value. :D I don't understand the lack of interest mock drafts have for Wade. He was quite good at Tennessee as our top corner for a year and a half. Only thing I can think of is that he was a receiver the first two years of his career.
  13. Almost. That's twice today Barrett should have at least tied the game, but the ball went foul. He's getting close to breaking out.
  14. Nice first inning by Lilly. Hopefully he can continue it.
  15. Free Wayne Mesmer! Where is he anyway? He should do every anthem and rendition of God Bless America. You mean the guy who can't pronounce "brave" correctly? home of the breeeeeve That used to get to me, but I think after listening for so many years, it's kind of grown on me. :D
  16. Len just announced Dunn's out w/back spasms and Josh Hamilton is in batting third.

  18. Bump. This was getting dangerously close to the second page.
  19. Don't take this as a defense of Hawk Harrelson at all because I can't stand him, but it's not as important to keep the listener informed on TV as it is radio. It's more purely about entertaining on TV since the audience can watch the action. I do hate the way he sulks when things go bad, though.
  20. Did you ever hear Harry when he was alive? Pat isn't as disoriented as Harry was some days, but you haven't heard a baseball game called unless you heard it called by Harry Caray and Steve Stone. No, I didnt. At least, not that I remember. I watched Cubs games before 98...but it wasn't until 1998 and the HR Race that I really got into baseball. I wish I would have gotten to hear them. Some of the more weathered Cub fans on the board may disagree because they have more listening experience than I do, but Harry and Steve are by far the best sportscasting duo I've ever heard - perhaps in any sport. Again, I'm only 24 so I have limited experience, but I thought incredibly highly of Harry and Steve.
  21. Edge is only gonna be 29 in August. Of course, he is going on 9 years in the league, but he doesn't have that many carries. Not many compared to whom? He's got over 2500, and another 400 catches. That's not Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith territory, but it's more than most featured backs in this era of bigger, faster, stronger defenders. Including Priest Holmes, the recently retired Tiki Barber, the shadow of his former self Corey Dillon, the short lived Ahman Green, even the relatively steady stalwart Warrick Dunn. And it's a heck of a lot more than Terrell Davis. I think in this current era, that any team should feel fortunate to get 2000 solid carries out of a guy before he starts to fade fast. A platoon situation could help spread those 2000 yards over 8, 9 or 10 years. But any runner who has the workload of Edge should not be counted on for the longterm, especially when he's already shown a sharp dropoff in effectiveness. I see your point, but your comparisons aren't very good, because Barber, Dunn, and Holmes weren't feature backs for the first 4 years of their careers. Davis had a much shorter career and he and Holmes had many more carries per game in their prime than Edge did. Dillon's about even in his career RPG. He's only about 300 yards short of Eddie George's career total. In his final four years (2001-04) Eddie was still solid, but not dominant like his youth. His highest total yardage in those years was 2002 when he carried for 1165 yards, still lower than at any point in his prime. Getting a young future replacement for Edge and a platoon partner is not a bad idea.
  22. It wasn't in the first round, so Thomas has a shot. If he can stay off drugs and steroids.
  23. He finally came out of the closet. He's a Met fan. I figured that was reserved only for Cardinal and White Sox fans.
  24. Yeah, the poster formerly known as goony took him. Somebody fix him up, I'm not using that phrase. I'm feeling out of the loop. I don't know if I missed a thread or what, but why is goony using a completely new account? I'm very confused. He was banned. Finally. That goony dude was a douchebag. I don't disagree with that. :D
