  1. I actually kind of find it amusing. They're also making me hungry. HOME RUN Soriano! Haha! :P
  2. lol.. man did you have to say that.. :D I like tempting fate. 8-)
  3. Yeah, he's been great. Hopefully he doesn't wear down like he did last year. Hope not. Luckily if he starts to wear down, Lou should take notice and give him a break.
  4. Nice recovery by Marshall. He's been quite good since being called up.
  5. He really settled down late in the inning. Hope we don't let him get in a groove.
  6. Got all the guys in there you want. Still would kinda like to see Theriot at the 2 hole against leftys, but I guess there is something to be said about consistency in the lineup. Does Cormier throw lefty now? Nope, he's a righty. I like the lineup.
  7. Those were the days. If WGN still did that, I wouldn't have to shell out money for extra innings.
  8. And the stream stretching up into Tennessee goes all the way up through Knoxville. If it's heading directly south, things aren't looking good.
  9. I think the receivers are a little better than average, but I agree with most of the rest you said. Also, their coaching causes problems because Del Rio lets his players run wild. I don't know how many times I've seen the Jaguars lose games because of 15 yard penalties at the worst time because they can't control their emotions. He also doesn't have the team ready to play every week, which is how the Jaguars can beat Dallas, Pittsburgh, Philadelpia, Giants and Indianapolis and yet lose to Washington, Houston twice, and Buffalo. Del Rio does tend to let his players run a little wild and they seem undisciplined, which did cost them some over the course of the year. They could certainly do better for a coach, but they could also do far, far worse.
  10. The crazy thing is, all they need is a top-notch QB to become an elite team. They've got the running game (Jones-Drew and Taylor), the receivers (Matt Jones, etc) the line and the defense. I was very afraid when they had the chance to draft Brady Quinn. I think the QBs would be better w/ better WRs. I don't like that group at all. You see, I think the core problem is the QB's and the receivers are actually better than they are able to show. From watching the Jags on a fairly regular basis, the quarterbacks show far too many mental lapses and simply terrible throws to blame the receivers. The Jags' loss to the Titans last year could be solely blamed on David Garrard making terrible throws and decisions - and that's not the only game the QBs, exclusive of the wide receivers, were terrible in.

I was very afraid when they had the chance to draft Brady Quinn. Well, then you like their receivers and coaching better than I do. They don't have a lot of depth at receiver, but with a better QB I like Matt Jones, Ernest Wilford and Reggie Williams. As for Del Rio, not the greatest coach out there, but they could do far worse. He may not win them a lot of games, but I don't think he loses many either.

  13. Do they actually think Culpepper would be better for them than Leftwich or Garrard? I know Jacksonville has QB issues, but this move just seems to crowd things without solving anything. I would think he stands a good chance of being better than both. Fully healthy I would agree. But there seems to be quite a bit of concern over whether that knee is healthy. I'm not that big a Leftwich or Garrard fan (though I think both are decent), but an injured Culpepper is not an upgrade. Last year's stats (Culpepper injured, Leftwich benched, Garrard starting): Culpepper - 4 games, 60% completion percentage, 6.9 yards/attempt, 2 TDs 3 INT Leftwich - 6 games, 59% completion percentage, 6.3 y/a, 7 TDs 5 INT Garrard - 11 games, 60% completion percentage, 7.2 y/a, 10 TDs 9 INT Fairly similar numbers last year, but what startles me is the TD/INT ratio. Culpepper didn't throw many of either last season, but the year before he had 6 TDs and 12 INTs. Leftwich on the other hand had 15 TDs and 5 INTs. So, if healthy, Culpepper is an upgrade (not sure how much, but he is). If injured, he's as bad as them and maybe worse. If the Dolphins cut him, there's no reason the Jags shouldn't grab him, but I wouldn't trade anything for him - especially if I had to pay $5.5M for him (which the Jags will have to do in a trade).
  14. The Broncos bolstered their d-line today with someone who is not a former Brown. They acquired DT Jimmy Kennedy from the Rams for a sixth round pick. Kennedy's value has really dropped since he was taken in the first round in 2003. The Broncos also signed the old man, Sam Adams, a few days ago. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2897672

  16. Throw some long hair on him and he's Shaggy from Scooby Doo. I never noticed that until you pointed it out, but he does look almost exactly like him.
  17. Nope. I'm pinch hitting for him and then bringing in Dempster. I agree. Let's not pull a Dusty just b/c we "feel he has it in him." Pitch count aside, this has been about as stress free as a game can get. I think Hill can do it. I know he can do it, but I'm gunshy considering the club's luck with arm troubles. He's been cruising all night though. But that's moot with Floyd batting. :D
  18. How many pitches? 108 or so. I say bring in Demp. I'd let Rich keep going, but first sign of trouble (hit) bring in Demp.
  19. Prior to the news of the sale, I could have seen a path for Hendry to acquire Tejada at the deadline. With Soriano, Ramirez, Lee and Tejada, the Cubs could live with DeRosa/Theriot at 2B, Murton/Floyd in RF and Felix Pie taking his time to come into his own. However we have to deal with the reality. Given the uncertainty of the finances with an imminent sale of the ballclub in the works, and a GM with an expiring contract, who's probably on his way out, if Hendry does make a move at the deadline, my guess is that it will be for a player who's contract expires at the end of the season. Assuming our biggest offensive weaknesses are at SS and C, is there a productive SS or C on the trading block, who will also be a free agent after 2007? I don't know if he's on the trading block, but Neifi's contract is up after this year. The best catchers that will be free agents after the year are Pudge and Posada and I'm sure neither are on the block. Omar Vizquel is the only shortstop worth much that's a free agent*, but I also doubt he's on the block. *EDIT: That's if you don't count A-Rod.
  20. It's actually Sports South now. They dropped Turner after Uncle Ted sold his share of the Braves. Fox Sports South then bought Turner South and re-named it Sports South. Oh, so that's what the crazy logo on my TV is. It took me forever to find that channel to make sure that the game was on it, and that's because I didn't realize the logo had changed. I wasn't sure what happened to Turner South either. I never really watched anything on it except the occasional movie and Braves games, but watched less of them when the Fox Sports South crew started doing the Turner South games. Then all of a sudden I didn't see Turner South for the longest time, but this new station popped up called SS on my guide. Later, I found out what happened. It kinda sucks because every once in a while Turner South actually showed good movies.

  22. I would love to go to the Masters one year. While I'm not a huge golf fan, I do enjoy watching it some, but the Masters is something you have to experience at some point.
  23. Culpepper's career certainly spiraled quickly. Nobody wants him, he doesn't want to be traded, and this is not going to be a good situation. I wonder if they could do better than a 7th rounder if they do trade him? Can't think of anybody desperate for a QB right now off the top of my head. If Miami wants to get rid of him, I think they'll have to cut him. You may be right my friend. The best they could hope for is somebody who wants a veteran backup and will take a chance for a sixth or seventh.
