The Pirates actually had three straight WC games. They won the first one before losing 3-2 to St Louis in the NLDS. Right, they went 1-2 those WCG and thus only played in the one real series. In those 3 years they had the 3rd best record in the NL, 4th best and 2nd best and they didn’t have much to show for all the winning

I agree with this take. There's little difference in variance anyway, so go all in with it. I will concede that it's nice that the higher seed gets all 3 home games, even if that's really just a result of needing to avoid travel days to cram the games in. I'm the board's resident hater of the 1 game playoff so I love this. Even if the variance doesn't change much, I still like the idea of feeling like you are actually in the playoffs even if you lose. I keep forgetting the 2018 Cubs were technically in the playoffs because it really didn't feel like it. Give me a 3 game series and I'm happy. Sure for all games where the Cubs aren't involved, the 1 game playoff is fun to watch but also feels crappy for the fans. It took the Pirates like 20 years to get their crap together and make the playoffs. Built a nice young core and all they got to show for it is 1 real playoff series before it was dismantled. Just think 162 games of success leading to 1 playoff game is such a bummer for those teams. But I know I'm in the minority here.

That was kind of my concern too. I haven't heard of either of them being open to a new position, and it wouldn't make sense to sign Simmons for a defensive boost if you planned on moving him to a new position. -

Amazing 13 All Star games have previously gone into extras and only 3 in the last 18 years so it might be awhile until we actually see this happen but seems like a fun way to end an exhibition game

So is the plan to give Fields tools to be successful next year to ensure we develop him and/or have him show us he's the guy moving forward, and assuming he is we will try to capitalize on the last 2 years of his rookie deal by making big strides in 2023 and 2024? I am fine with a rebuild/retool but given Fields' contract would like it to be somewhat accelerated if possible

Not bad for Buck. Almost certainly getting a raise and instead of doing a Thursday and Sunday game plus playoffs and occasional Super Bowl he just does 1 Monday broadcast a week through the Wild Card round. Is he still under contract for baseball with FOX or is that over too?

Good stuff TT. I remembered that we got Frazier and obviously Stroman. Gomes was the one I forgot. There are twitter rumors that 6-8 deals have already been agreed to but for whatever reason haven't been announced yet. If true I wonder if the Cubs are involved in any of those signings.

I wonder how many of these moves, if any, Pace would have made if he was retained. Trevathan and Cohen probably. I feel like would have kept Cohen (unless the medical reports are dire) because he doesn't understand or care about the concept of sunk cost

I’m confused. What about in a scenario like 2018 where the Cubs and Brewers tied for the best record in the NL? Which team would get a bye and which would have to play an entire extra round? They’d have tiebreakers similar to other leagues. H2H would certainly be first. Maybe division record after that. That sounds terrible. A tiebreaker to see who gets to play one less round of playoffs? Don’t like it

Holy crap, balanced schedules and you play all 29 other teams at least once a year? I still hope teams play more games against their division than anyone else. Maybe not as many as before. If they don’t, what’s the point of divisions?

I don't want Nick Ahmed simply because something called the "Nick Ahmed game" exists. I don't even remember what he did in that game to kill the Cubs, just that he sucks for it.
