I guess in the NFL you have to survive long enough as a QB to start getting the calls. Until then, the risk of a career-limiting injury is way higher. That's how it seems anyway. There's a theory that many of these calls are mobile/immobile related. Mobile QBs universally believe that they don't get the calls that the pocket guys get. Cam Newton has always complained about it, and still isn't getting the calls at his veteran age. But the mobile QBs not getting roughing call thing leads to the potential of racially motivated calls, which I'm sure the league isn't ready to admit. I wonder if there's a statistic for how many roughing calls each QB has gotten. I'd be interested to see how guys like Herbert, Allen, and Mayfield compare to Lamar, Kyler and others. Here you go: https://www.nflpenalties.com/roughing-the-passer-by-qb.php? Strangely though, while it is counting up 2021 penalties, none of the rookie QBs are being tracked. But you can see who is getting the higher percentage of calls Edit: I guess there is a minimum qualifier in there of 40 starts Double edit: Some reddit dude did some analysis of the numbers:
