  1. I watched Comcast Sportsnight or whatever its called. Dusty said it was because with Maddux pitching, he wanted good defense behind him....not sure what that means considering the number of home runs Maddog has given up the last few years. Maybe Greg has developed a nasty sinkerball over the winter :)
  2. Anyone else find it funny/cool that we play in the Meadowlands in 2 consecutive weeks vs. the Giants and the Jets. That will save on travel, they can just chill in NYC for the week.
  3. After the first inning on Monday, the Cubs were on pace to score 7290 runs this year, but that number has fallen off a bit
  4. Basically for the offseason, it is a bad FA class, but these players seem attractive to me for the Bulls to acquire: -Jermaine O'Neal (been lots of rumors about a deal between the Bulls and Pacers) -Kevin Garnett (might have to give up too much) -Ben Wallace (who knows, if the price is right...but doubtful) -Al Harrington (probably a bit overrated because his recent numbers come on bad Atlanta teams - see Knight, Brevin) -Nazi Muhammad (probably the worst of the choices, but would still give the Bulls a relatively good upgrade down low, but I would prefer someone who has better offensive skills) Also, Silvy and Carmen were on this morning talking about how Andres Nocioni is now "untradable". At first I was taking it with a grain of salt, but then I started to think about it. How hard is it to get an undersized player at his position that can rebound over people 6-7 inches taller, can score inside on seemingly more physical players, puts 137% effort into his game every night, is a physical defender who will frustrate whoever he is guarding, and is now developing an above average jumper. Sure he makes his mistakes, I swear he's going to set the record for most traveling violations in a season at some point. But this kind of super utility player (who suprisingly can step it up and play like a star at times) is what seperates a talented team with a good team. Last 16 games (pts-reb): 21-13 14-12 13-11 24-11 26-10 12-5 2-4 17-10 18-5 14-12 25-9 13-3 9-6 15-6 23-9 24-4 Thats 16.9 PPG, 8.1 RPG over a 16 game period. Throw out the outlier games, and Noc is a bonafied star over that period.
  5. Yeah, I'm a bit worried that they will get this one in. Pretty much the weather that will be occuring during tomorrows game is just about the worst weather that we will experience in Chicago during a 2 week span (one week after Friday and one week before Friday). It figures... During the middle of the game we will be getting rain/snow, 27 MPH winds and it will feel like 28 degrees outside. Bundle up if your going, I know I will.
  6. I'm bringing a DePaul shirt with me to the game Friday in order to wave it in the bleachers during the tribute. Hopefully it will get me on tv :)
  7. Jones sucks, I know its only 2 games but he's looked clueless at the plate. I give Hendry credit where it is due, but signing Jones to a 3 year contract is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I'd rather have Rob Mackodsfgodsagoiak out there in RF, and what did the Sox give up for him, a reliever in decline?
  8. 2 years 160 games left.... Jones and Janerro Pargo should be friends, they both suck and should just go away
  9. Defensively, where hes been known as a marginal defender and gamecaller, yes
  10. I'm going to start training my vocal chords for "booing" on Friday ;)
  11. Good job Bare, way to make it a team "effort"
  12. Oh well at least we have the beautiful Bud Light bleachers to look forward to!
  13. 2 years and 160 games left of Jock Jones folks....
  14. Falling into old habits and tendancies already. It's just one game, but they are giving me no reason to believe my prediction of 80 wins will be incorrect.
  15. Nope hes talking to his agent saying "When I turned down Detroit, I didn't think I would have this crap to work with"
  16. C'mon guys, 3 solo HRs and we are back on top!
  17. maybe if we had more speed.....
  18. YES!!! CUBS BASEBALL IS BACK!!! 16 runs and 7 walks followed by first pitch outs Missed you guys, its been a long winter
  19. Believe it or not, thats what BP's numbers say in their new book, exerpted by ESPN.com http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=betweenthenumbers/ortiz/060405&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos2 Hmm, I do remember a bunch of clutch hits, but that somewhat suprises me.
  20. I'd actually rather have the 8th seed and play Detroit. The way I figure is, either way we will pretty much lose the series whether we play Detroit, New Jersey or Miami. But with the way the Detroit/Chicago games have gone this year, I'd love to see the rivalry rekindled more with a physical hard fought series.
  21. Meh, they deserve to put as much advertising up as they want. It's obvious from the Cubs track record that a majority of revenues that devalue Wrigley Field so much are being used to improve the ballclub, one of winningest ballclubs in all of sports. To steal from WSI (which is one idea I really like there) /teal
  22. And some ignorant ones: September 26 -- For the fifth year in a row, Dodgers closer Eric Gagne is awarded the prestigious Greatest Canadian Reliever Award, as voted on by the Canadian baseball press. I wonder if they realize that if that award was real, it more then likely would have went to Ryan Dempster last year.
