  1. Macais meet third base...you will be seeing a lot of this for the next 5 weeks
  2. Going to be hard for Lee to lead his team in RBIs when he gets situations like that and can't produce....
  3. Fantastic article!
  4. Any chance that Lee finishes the year with 50 doubles and 40 homers? 40 homers is inevitable, but 50 doubles might be tough. I can only count a handful of players that have ever achieved it (Lou Gehrig, Hank Greenberg, Juan Gonzalez, Todd Helton, Carlos Delgado and Albert Pujols). Coming into the game, Lee was on pace for 50 doubles and 48 homers. I don't think anybody has ever had a 50/50 season. 1995: Albert Belle http://espn.go.com/classic/biography/s/Belle_Albert.html In 20-30 years, people are going to wonder about the enigma Albert Belle was. He was probably better then someone like Manny Ramirez in his prime, but injuries and maybe steroids (I mean we know he corked his bat, might be a slippery slope, but with numbers like that you have to question) ended his career prematurely. Can you believe Manny Ramirez and Albert Belle were once in the same lineup
  5. Not at least until 2008. It was last here in 1990, so that means its only been 15 years, and there are 30 teams, some who have never hosted an ASG. I would think Arizona, Florida, Tampa Bay, NY Yankees, NY Mets, Washington, Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Francisco will all get a shot before the Cubs. Plus it was just here with the White Sox 2 years ago so I bet that gets some consideration
  6. Good going. Oh wait, you are a Cards fan, I guess you are happy :)

  8. I like the attitude we've been showing lately (meaning the fans). Let's not dwell on the failure that is the 2005 Cubs. Let's just make lemonade out of the lemons we have and find bright spots and things to cheer about. First goal, get to .500!
  9. I think they go on sale sometime in November or December. I think its a first come first serve thing with the VWR's like they do for regular season tickets. I could be wrong though. The convention is usually in mid to late January. Last year there seemed to be a huge demand for tickets, but once the event was going on, I was able to get 2 passes for a grand total of $10 (albeit during the afternoon on Saturday)
  10. I agree don't resign Neifi to start, but I would certainly be willing to sacrifice a good amount of offense for stabalized defense. Certainly not as bad as Neifi, but I could live with a .750 heavily weighted towards OBP player. Any options out there?
  11. I'd blow up Wrigley for a championship in a second, but since that's not going to happen, Wrigley is nice to have around while we whittle away these losing days.
  12. Even the DPs that Pujols hits into are hard hit, see his game ending DP against the Cubs in July
  13. He takes himself out of games whenever he is losing and he hits batters intentionally everytime he gives up a key HR
  14. Heh, seems like we go through this thread every 6 months or so...maybe we should stickie it ;)
  15. I think Patterson's range and defense make up for the advantage Macais has in his paper thin numbers.
  16. There was a player who was 6'5'' 230 lbs from the Transamerica team, which I believe is a team in Saudi Arabia or something. I saw it on ESPN when they played Japan.
  17. Exactly, 2003 was about a bunch of veterans and young starters that got hot at the right time and made it to the NLCS. I don't blame Hendry and MacPhail for stripping the team and revamping. They built around the right players, but those other 21 guys they got were wrong for whatever reason
  18. Yup, that would make more sense. And looking into it, Bobby Cox is/was the Braves manager from 1978-1981;1990-2005, thus negating a couple of their worst years.
  19. And thats a season folks. Kerry your surgeon is calling
  20. Yeah seriously, please clairify. No team can go that long without a 3 game losing streak.
  21. Yeah what is up with that defense lately? Honestly, I didn't expect the Cubs to sweep the Rockies. They are around a .500 team at home, and with Nomar out most of the series, I expected the offense to suffer a bit. But losing with scenarios in the 8th is brutal. Bases loaded 1 out, and they put the least likely person to hit a ball into the OF in there to hit. I understand if they can't PH Nomar because he can't play D yet, and you'd rather have Neifi's D in for the 9th inning. What are your other choices at SS if you PH? Macais is PR, Hairston can't play SS for some reason, Nomar is hurt. These are reasons why players like Neifi shouldn't be on the team. Oh and Corey....don't even get me started. Bottom line, if the Cubs win 2 out of 3 every series, and 3 of 4 every 4 game series, they should still end up with about 88 wins. Expecting to sweep any series on the road is setting yourself up for failure. Let's hope we can get the series win today
  22. Sure glad Corey had that month to clear his head and change his hitting approach. How about next time we make it a year?
  23. 5 Rockies have swung at the first pitch in the last 2 innings (7 batters)
