    This reminds me of the game against Philly last year when Dempster came in with a 2-0 lead, got an out, then walked the bases loaded, then walked in a run, then struck out 2 batters in a row to get the save.

    Unbelievable. Sorry, I don't have a link. I just heard on the update that the Cardinals have called the Pirates inquiring about Wilson, since Pujols is on the DL. I'm sorry, if the Cardinals lose their 1B and trade for a more then adequate replacement there will be a personal hatred for Jimbo.

    I don't understand. Once you get past that point of caring, the Cubs are really an entertaining team to watch. Just a negatively entertaining team. Plus they get to be paid to watch other teams tee off on the Cubs.

    Is there any way to figure out how many more runs the Cubs would have this season if they used a league average leadoff hitter instead of Pierre all year.

    As a Cub fan, I would take NO pleasure if this is true. First because Pujols seems like a likeable and legit guy. Second because it would ABSOLUTELY DESTROY BASEBALL for the best hitter in the game to be taken down at his absolute peak. Rest assured though, I doubt this is true

    I was about to be like "Hey, Pierre has a higher OPS!" Then I realized that I was talking about a leadoff hitter having a higher OPS then a pitcher.

    Gotta defend the Cubs org here. Wasn't everyone complaining that the Cubs were babying their players too much and being extra cautious? Now they are letting their player pitch through the pain and they get ripped on for that. I dunno, maybe most of the babying was aimed at Prior, and maybe I don't know the full story, but it seems really hypocritical to rip on the Cubs for letting Wood pitch through pain.

    "Putting something up for sale" can drive down the price, because potential buyers know the owner wants to get rid of the item. GMs talk all the time about not shopping guys, but they'll listen for offers. Unlike most businesses, a ballclub carries an emotional premium for rich guys who want to compete, and win in full view of the public. In the interview that Mariotti did with Cuban, Cuban said this: Would that happen quietly? I genuinely don't know the answer, not trying to be sarcastic or anything. He also reinterated the process yesterday morning on Sean Salisbury and Steve Rosenbloom's show. Again said he was likely interested. It's interesting that he would show how much he wants to buy them. I thought the idea was to feign lack of interest in order to drive the price down. Maybe that isn't the case with multimillion dollar buys with multiple investors.
