  1. Probably his Pirates helmet and he wanted to keep it.. thus he had it re-painted... (Just a guess?) The C on the Cubs helmet isnt painted on, its actually applied on seperately.
  2. I am waaay to optimistic about this team considering we just dropped 3 of 4 from Arizona at home. Time to surely be deflated
  3. Nomar or Walker better he hitting second on Friday
  4. An OBP of .380 for a leadoff hitter is excellent. Most hitters with OBP's over .400 are middle of the order guys whose OBP's benefit from being pitched around. We did add an impact player today, trust me. I think the offense will be more consistant if we force the pitcher to get in and out of jams every day. This may be just opinion but it seems to me that the ability to draw a walk is a more consistant trait then the ability to get hits. Maybe not on a game to game basis, because it is still the days pitcher that throws the balls, but in the overall short run and long run someone that can take a pitch is a valueable cog, espeically at the top of the order
  5. On Tuesdays fans can get two tickets for the price of one. Ron said on the broadcast that there will be no "Two for Tuesday" on ticket sales, just on food and drinks. Hmmm..I got nothing to do this week. How far is Jackson, TN from Chicago?
  6. I applaud JH for being able to make a move that will surely help the team at least somewhat while almost all of the NL contenders were unable to do anything (Cardinals, Astros, Marlins come to mind). Maybe he is a bit too stubborn to give up those guys, but I think with Lawton we will see an immediate difference in how the offense operates, especially when Nomar comes back and shakes off the rust. Good job Jim!
  7. You can't just forget about Holly. You gotta find a spot for Holly. He has been hitting the ball hard lately. He's just unlucky dude. You also can't leave Neifi out of there. This guy has been getting clutch hits for us all year, you can't just throw him right back on the bench after everything he has done for us. /Dusty
  8. I sacrificed Enrique Wilson, but Modzilla wasn't pleased for some reason. Tough to impress him/her. Oh well, my dream of being a moderator is deferred :( Edit: Actually I think moderation powers are determined in sort of a BCS-style system. The moderators vote on a top 25 poster list each week. Also, the admins have their own poll too. Their polls are weighted with a group of other rating systems, including quality post points, humerous point posts, etc. Finally, the number of times a poster is warned either in a thread or via PM for pushing the line of offensiveness is added to their overall score. The persons with the lowest score when an extra moderator is needed have a faceoff in a hidden forum where they must argue a Cub related topic the best. After a two week period to argue, the thread is closed and a new moderator is determined.
  9. Hairstons OBP in July is .303 or so. I have no reservations about an OF with Murton-Lawton-Burnitz Left to Right Lawton Garciaparra Lee Ramirez Burnitz Walker Barrett Murton Pitcher
  10. I don't like how people are saying he is our LF. Ahh, Hairston has sad to say been horrible since being the leadoff man. Murton needs ABs, aghhhh
  11. We just got somone who is 6th in the league in Walks and 8th in SB. Not bad. Not saying it couldn't have helped, but power wasn't our biggest concern right now. Also, the pen should be bolstered, perhaps signifigantly, by the additions of Williamson and Wood. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if we are able to sneak in a reliever through a waiver deal.
  12. Wouldnt it be funny if it was for like Rich Hill Oh wait, no it wouldnt
  13. Sweet thats our big move to improve the decrepid offense Anyways, since its impossible to navigate this thread, the Farns has also been traded to the Braves to become a perrenial Cy Young winner
  14. So umm.. Maddux has a relatively uneventful first inning besides the walk
  15. How would you guys feel about aquiring Adam Dunn? How about including Felix Pie and Rich Hill in the deal? I think we need more team speed. That is the most important thing And finally, why is Corey Patterson still in AAA, he needs to be up here in the bigs. He is awesome, why do people rag on him so much??
  16. I wouldn't mind it seeing as Mitre and Wellemeyer don't really fit into our plans and much as i like Pinto - it means we keep Hill. That deal probably would include others from the Rangers side - Delucci or Mench would be nice - but one of their pen arms would be good too. I would expect that they'd definitely include prospects though. What's the point of giving up three serviceable arms when Walker provides essentially the same production as Soriano? (At 1/3rd the cost, no less?) Needless to say I think this would be an insanely stupid trade on the part of the Cubs. (And my opinion of Hendry would fall to Baker-esque levels if it went down.) No improvement to the team at the cost of depleting our most tradeable commodities and a severe hit in the budget? No way. I'll say it again; I'm only remotely interested in Soriano if he ends up in Left and Walker stays at second. Otherwise, Texas is more than free to keep him. Why does everyone think that Walker produces the same as Soriano? That's just absurd. Let me know when Walker can hit 40 Homeruns knock in 100 runs, score 120 runs and steal 30 - 40 bases. SEASONAL AVG.'s (per 162 games played) Walker: Runs: 85 HR: 14 RBI: 71 BA: .289 OBP: .347 SLG: .439 OPS: .786 SB: 10 Soriano: Runs: 103 HR: 33 RBI: 94 BA: .283 OBP: .321 SLG: .504 OPS: .825 SB: 34 I think it is indesputable that Soriano is more productive than Walker in almost every offensive facet ot the game. The only edge Todd has is OBP - and we can see how much that has helped his production vs. Soriano.[/u] Texas' park is also a much better park to hit in then Wrigley, so it inflates Sorianos numbers as well. Also, despite less range, Walker is clearly the better fielder. Also account for the fact that for the most part Walker has a positive presense in the clubhouse. It would be pointless to include Walker in a deal for Soriano
  17. Like O_o said, the main reason I'm leery of trading him is that he has value to the team THIS year. He has a nasty curve ball and a nice fastball, but everyone and their mom knows that once advance scouts get a good report on his curveball, he is going to have to make adjustments. Will he? God I hope so.
  18. Dude you are a Cub fan. Go to work, aint nothing going to happen. In fact its better to work so you dont get pissed off waiting for crap to happen. Yeah, nothing happened last year either. Yes. That was pretty cool. But that was like a suprise party, you come home and.....holy schmoly. Dont get surpise party too much or it wouldnt be a surprise. Remembering that day fondly, I was visiting Chicago (before I moved here) the Cubs had just lost and I was listening to 670 listening to trade updates. Nothing but Contrares for Loaiza. I turned off the radio disgusted and visited some friends. 30 minutes later I get a call from a friend in Boston: OH MY GOD CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. I was so stunned. Ahhh good memories
  19. Wow thats soooooooooooooooooooooooo interesting Edit: ;)

  22. Holy understatements Batman! ;)
