  1. Just decided to see how well the Cubs are comparing to the rest of baseball in key offensive statistics. 20th in BA 24th in HR 26th in 2B 26th in H 23rd in R 26th in TB 25th in SLG 10th in SB 28th in walks (leader, CIN, has almost twice as much as the Cubs!!) 4th in LEAST K's 5th in MOST DPs 23rd in OBP (with the A's!?) 30th IN LEAST LOB Obviously, the statistics are showing that we are having the team that Hendry wanted. Lots of SB, a lot less K's, not much emphasis on OBP and walking. Obviously, missing Lee skews some of these numbers, but its a bit distressing to figure that the reason the Cubs are staying afloat offensively is because they are driving home a majority of their runners (minus those not out from DPs), a trend that is likely not to continue. Anyone else see anything interesting in these numbers?
  2. I can sorta understand why the Yankees want to get involved. I guess Mirabeli is pretty much the same as adding another starter for the Red Sox rotation with the way he handles Wakefield.
  3. Pretty much nothing Zambrano has done this year has been good. Honestly, he needs to smarten up and stop putting so much break on all of his pitches until he can control them.
  4. The Yankees getting coverage doesn't bother me that much because they are actually good. But when basketball people, whether it's on ESPN or TNT, start talking about the Knicks on every single telecast, it ticks me off. The Knicks suck. They are horrible and a complete train wreck. There is no need to talk about them all the time. Yup I remember a time in the winter when the Knicks had a 5 game winning streak, and were playing one of the worst teams in the NBA (maybe it was charlotte or portland?) anyways, despite this matchup of teams with terrible records, guess who led off Sportscenter?
  5. Reminds me of the one time an unfortunate incident (my mom going into the hospital) brought me into Arizona in August of 2003, the same week that the Cubs just so happened to be in town. I decided that due to the unfortunate circumstances, I needed a pick-me-up, so I went to the first game of the series, which turned out to be Carlos Zambrano's almost no hitter. Great times in AZ. Hope you have fun!
  6. Can you believe that Sportscenter has been airing news stories about the upcoming Red Sox/Yankees series for several days now? Seriously, if they could be more blatently obvious about their East Coast bias, I'd like to know how. The fact is, 2003 was awesome, 2004 was even better, but honestly, the 230 million Americans living outside of the NYC and Boston metros could care less about this anymore.
  7. I got that jist from him too. Honestly, I say meh to the whole situation. I barely even feel/care like he is on the team anymore. Obviously him on the team would make the Cubs better, but you just can't count on a player who injuries himself for no reason the first time he pitches all spring and then doesn't come back until June. So forget him, forget Wood, if they are there great, but don't count on them being there.
  8. As do I, would be amazing.
  9. Just turned the game back on, why is Dempster pitching in a 9-0 game with pouring rain making conditions barely playable?
  10. After the initial rush, we are starting to see the effect that Lee has on the offense.
  11. Runs this series: Brewers - 25 Cubs - 8 Amazingly we actually won a game this series.
  12. Because Dusty can, so he will. Also probably because Murt has looked terrible on offense and defense and Dusty doesn't have enough patience for Big Red.
  13. Its so obvious that Carlos needs to simply put less spin on most of his pitches. He can't control them, he has way too much movement on his pitches and he gets behind almost everyone. If Larry can't figure that out, he should be fired.
  14. Well the Brewers have scored 22 of the last 24 runs in this series.
  15. Zambrano is just a terrible pitcher right now. Larry has ruined another one.
  16. How long has Derrek been out? 1.5 weeks? Only ummm 4.5-6 weeks to go....
  17. We need to move Aramis down in the order, he is still slumping terribly.
  18. Tyson is out for the series. With the way he's played today, this is a crushing blow.
  19. I'll never forget the feeling that Kirk's 3 brought to me. 1:09 left, gotta get a stop here!
  20. 4Q FT shooting has been a terrible theme all year
  21. Man I am so nervous. I spent the last 2 games playing down this game in my mind in case they lost. But now here we are....ready to be exhilerated or crushed, like I have with the Bulls so many times.
  22. I don't care how many nifty K's Z has if he occasionally is throwing hanging pitches hit for HRs (for the record I didn't see the HR, I assume it was a hanger)
  23. Yeah I was watching the end of the first half of the Bulls game, did Dusty say anything interesting? (what did he say with regards to Glendon?)
  24. I've said it 1000 times, Pargo is the worst player in the NBA. He does 50 bad things for every random ill-advised shooting streak.
