  1. Yeah, wish we could do that with several pitchers in the past. Kent Mercker and Mark Guthrie come to mind immediately. *ducks after Mercker comment*
  2. Another dramatic goal. Paraguay played pretty good, shutting out the opposition for 179+ minutes, but just couldn't knock one in themselves and will likely be going home.
  3. Yeah the only difference between this game and the other 2 games of the series is that Zambrano kept the Astros from scoring. The Cubs offense was pointless in this series. If they are going to suck, they might as well not bat and save the people watching 1.5 hours.
  4. Robertson vs. Rusch Verlander vs. Marmol Rogers vs. Marshall Looking at the pitching matchups, looks like we'll be swept by the Tigers this weekend, putting our record at 26-42 and putting us on pace for a record of 62-100
  5. Haha Ronny just said Jock has a mental problem
  6. Does Sweeden want to score this tourney?
  7. Everytime I see your avatar, at first glance, I think that your avatar is Jose Macais jersey
  8. Greg Oden. Oh wait, in baseball...
  9. Bah, it was a meaningless homerun as the Cubs already had the lead. Jacque = not clutch. Trade him for Dunn. A team with Jones, Dunn, and Arod as the heart of the order wouldn't win games because none of those guys hit when it counts. Can't be any worse then the Cubs as currently assembled. I'm not sure if you guys are being sarcastic when talking about whether Jones is clutch. I seem to remember about 2-3 games where a Jock hit was clutch...
  10. Ron just gets done saying its not a good time for Barrett to be swinging a hot bat because of his suspension. Then Barrett hurts his groin (or whatever) and says that this is not the time for Barrett to go down.
  11. He basically said that "Dusty knows that we are going to sit down and talk to him on my terms. There is no timetable for a decision. We still think and hope that Dusty has the ability to turn this team around" etc. I dunno the tone just sounded more like he's undecided about Dusty's future.
  12. A tie wouldn't have really helped T&T anyways.
  13. Anyone hear that Hendry interview on WGN AM? He sounded a bit less optimistic about Dusty's future then he has in the past.
  14. Eriksson is the Dusty Baker of football managers for leaving Crouch on. Somewhere, Sir Alex is throwing a fit. Height never goes away. Dude, he's just getting bad bounces. We can't take him out before he starts to get his good bounces.
  15. Wait, sportsline says that Rooney came in for Crouch?
  16. Is that a normal substitution (Rooney for Owen)? I know Rooney can only play limited time but it seems weird to replace Owen
  17. I'm not sure what to think: On one hand, the Cubs are terrible and Murton needs to develop. Benching him will be giving up on a developing player in his first full year. On the other hand, its obvious that the Cubs coaching has gotten to him as he has gotten more agressive and less patient throughout the year. Benching him will hopefully slow down his deteriorating process. *sigh* the Cubs are absolutely awful.
  18. Just heard on the Score a quote by Dusty saying that a Bynum/Murton platoon is a possibility. He said Bynum has suprising power or something and a better fielder (which is true). Dusty wants to platoon one of the few few players on our team that have an average OBP.
  19. So 3 games under .500 when he doesn't (over a larger sample size), 9 games under when he does
  20. They might have stopped doing that after the Jock Jones/drunk fan incident a month ago. I haven't been to a game since that one (in fact, I was at that very game), and all the previous games they were throwing balls into the stands.
  21. Meh, after watching "Kid gloves" Dusty for 3.5 seasons, its nice to see a manager with the balls to challenge a player publically when he doesn't do what the manager wants. This may be extreme, and probably on the side of uncalled for, but its a nice diversion from 'dude i dont challenge players in front of the cameras'
  22. Is England ever going to score on their own in this Tourney?
  23. Bruce Levine just announced that David Riske switched the color of his "Sox" today, moving from Boston to Chicago for a minor league pitcher (forgot the name). Sean and Steve are speculating that, based on his history, they brought him in to replace Tracey and basically to hit someone tonight and take a suspension. Obviously they will have more use for him after he gets back, but thats the initial reason for the trade.
  24. The coach wouldn't, but as a player, if you have a perception of an opponent, it can play a powerful role in how focused you are on the field. I think the Italians are showing signs of overlooking us. To be so clueless about an opponent 2 days before a game is a very dangerous thing, and if they solely watch tape of the CZR game, or even the CZR game plus the send off series games, they're going to get a misleading, negative impression of us. Is it really misleading? They've been looking pretty damn awful lately. Sure they have the potential to play better, but will they?
