  1. Been frustrating watching the Cubs offense today...but you gotta admint, old man Maddux is definitely on top of his game tonight.
  2. Probably a 50% chance or maybe a bit less Hey....unnecessary jump!
  3. Nice play! I was thinking for sure they would go for the DP, but I think this was the smart move. And Ramirez didn't hesitate at all before making the play which really helped him.
  4. Theriot has given the Padres 3 outs in the last 5 minutes.
  5. Good, Pujols won't play in both games tomorrow anyways, and DHs are rarely swept.
  6. Just win the Wild Card and then we're both happy :)
  7. I don't know but according to ESPN's RPI, the Brewers are right up there with the Cubs http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rpi Cubs are the number 2 team, Brewers number 4. I'm guessing a big reason is SOS.
  8. Does anyone know if anything like that has ever happened? Two teams clinching the division and wild card while playing a series against each other. That would be kind of neat. The Yankees and Red Sox did that in 2005 I believe. on the last day of the season, wasn't it? Yeah...it really wasn't that cool for 2 reasons: 1) They finished with identical records, but the Yankees won the division on a tie breaker 2) The Indians swooned big time meaning by Saturday I believe both teams had clinched a playoff bearth, so the actual designation of who was Division Champ and who was Wild Card didn't matter too much
  9. So you're saying that they will win 14-1 then?

  11. The Cubs were 5-9 games up from mid-August on. So I wouldn't say run away like the 2004 Cardinals did, but it wasn't an epic race or anything.
  12. You know whats funny. When you win everyday, after awhile, the media treats some wins like a loss. Yesterday the whole story was how Marquis sucked, the middle relief couldn't hold it, etc. But they freaking won. I love it.
  13. My math is terrible but I think it's 90 games. We are 38-21 with 103 games left. If we go 52-51 that equates to 90-72. Meh still not bad. I thought someone in the game thread said 98 games and I was like  I'll take 90 but I think we will play over .500 baseball the rest of the year. To finish 81-81 - 43-60 To finish 85-77 - 47-56 To finish 90-72 - 52-51 To finish 93-69 (less than 70 losses) - 55-48 To finish 95-67 - 57-46 To finish 100-62 - 62-41 To finish 103-59 - 65-38
  14. or that they own or have access to them! [/stereotype]
  15. Just for fun, based on projected numbers, this is how the Cubs would look at the end of the season. Imagine facing this lineup and rotation in the NLDS: Soriano, LF - .285/.330/.565/.895 47 HR 130 RBI Theriot, SS - .321/.407/.386/.793 3 HR 47 RBI Lee, 1B - .291/.346/.525/.870 36 HR 105 RBI Ramirez, 3B - .317/.428/.540/.968 26 HR 115 RBI Fukudome, RF - .305/.409/.433/.842 9 HR 62 RBI Soto, C - .293/.384/.560/.944 29 HR 113 RBI DeRosa, 2B - .299/.390/.465/.855 17 HR 89 RBI Johnson, CF - .266/.346/.367/.713 6 HR 76 RBI Zambrano - 22-3 2.51 ERA 1.22 WHIP 157 K Dempster - 19-5 2.75 ERA 1.12 WHIP 173 K Lilly - 14-11 5.54 ERA 1.40 WHIP 167 K Marmol - 3-3 2.43 ERA 0.81 WHIP 151 K 47 H (102 IP) Wood - 5-3 2.78 ERA 0.80 WHIP 100 K 44 S (88 IP)
  16. The only way that will happen is if a highly uncharacteristic storm hits SD and washes the game out after 6 innings.
  17. Thread title is dumb. We can win with Marquis in the rotation, and he won't come near a baseball in the playoffs. So if we fail, it won't be because of him.
  18. What doesn't make sense is why the Cubs didn't get HFA in 89 then. 84 - West 85 - East 86 - West 87 - East 88 - West 89 - East
  19. Theres only one 10:40 start against the Dodgers, and its on Friday. Th - 10:10 EST F - 10:40 EST Sa - 3:55 EST Su - 8:05 EST And then back to Wrigley and normal start times
  20. This will be a tough game. As stated above, Maddux is tough at Petco. Probably because its tough to take an 84 MPH fastball through the marine layer and out of the park. The Cubs offense has been hitting so well though I think we'll score a few off him. It will be up to Lilly to stifle the Padres and go at least 7. Funny note: Through 2 games this series, the Padres have scored 12 runs. When the Padres came to Wrigley last month, the offense scored only 12 runs in a 4 game series. More funny notes: If we win today, we will sweep 4 of the 5 NL West teams this year. The only team we haven't swept is San Francisco, who we haven't played yet. Right now the Cubs are 25-5 against the West and the Pirates and 13-16 against everyone else.
  21. I just want him to start walking once in awhile again.
  22. Jeez...it was almost like Soto was determined to Homer at this park. Gangster Geo. Gangster.
  23. Would be hilarious if Lou lifted Marquis now after having him bat in this inning.
  24. 2 runs scored today on a walk and a groundout heh.
