  1. Damn, he probably would have had an inside the park HR if he went for it just based on where the throw went.
  2. 3 outs from guaranteeing that we play a 163rd game
  3. Damn, was hoping that last out would put his ERA into the 2.30's. He will have to settle for ending the day at 2.40
  4. I'm surprised Maddon is letting him face another batter, I thought once Jedd's AB finished he was done as he's at 96 pitches and Rondon can obviously use some work
  5. Up to the minute MLB ERA leaders: 1. Hendricks - 2.03 2. Lester - 2.42 3. Syndergaard - 2.43
  6. I mean, Hendricks pitched well two days ago. He did? Must have missed that... :D Hendricks is pulling an "Arrieta" second half for sure, but Lester is the seasoned vet you want with the season on the line in a game 5 situation. Hendricks 2nd half ERA - 1.33 Lester 2nd half ERA - 1.51 They are both putting on 85% God Mode Jake 2015 2nd Half performances.
  7. Either way, I don't mind Jake pitching game 3 and I don't think he should mind. If anything it should motivate him. Plus I still hold out hope that he's holding something back and will turn into God-mode in the playoffs. If that's the case, then you want him pitching a tough game against the WC team's ace on the road. Basically, he might be the 3rd best pitcher this year, but even including Lester he probably has the highest ceiling for any one start.
  8. Lester is about 1 clean inning away from jumping Syndergaard, making it so the Cubs have the #1 and #2 ERA pitchers in the MLB
  9. Yep, pretty sweet. We discussed this earlier in the week but the worst case scenario would be the Brewers somehow winning tomorrow and the Cardinals losing the west coast game, ending after midnight Chicago time when a lot of Cubs fans are sleeping, and then the Cubs having to do the same thing as last year which is celebrate after the next days game. It's a rather minor thing either way, clinching is clinching, but I'd like to be able to win to clinch it.
  10. 2 hits in a row! He's fixed!!!!
  11. Still tickets available for tomorrow night's game. Thinking of buying some and heading down. Is Montgomery really starting?
  12. This is the best I've seen Lester pitch, or at least this current 3-4 start stretch
  13. holy horsefeathers David Ross donging off extreme ground ball pitching, elite home run suppressing Carlos Martiez. If that's the last home run in his career, its a good one.
  14. omg omg a heyward hit, he's finally turning it around
  15. I would expect like 'Lester grounds into a forceout to SS, Javier Baez to 3rd. Javier Baez scores on throwing error by SS Diaz" when I saw In play, run(s)
  16. I know right? All he had to was be like a 2 WAR offensive player and the contract looks good. Heck even if he could hit like .250/.325/.375, he has a positive value to our team. If we are completely overhauling his swing, who knows what type of hitter he ends up as. He could end up being a .700 OPS K machine, he could end up sacrificing almost all his power for getting better contact and end up a singles hitter. Or he could simply end up being the same broken hitter he is now.
  17. Cubs offense looks like its in a hurry to get home to Chicago.
  18. Can't remember if there was a thread for this already, but oh well Open with a 6 game road trip to STL and MIL, World Series rings handed out against the team they beat in the NLCS (Dodgers) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/schedule/?c_id=chc#y=2017&calendar=DEFAULT&m=4 Weird thing is that this schedule doesn't show home and road yet. Interleague is 4 games against the White Sox and Rays (both 2H,2R), and 3 at Wrigley against the Yankees (Starlin Homecoming!) and Jays, while visiting Boston and Baltimore both for 3. Looks like the season ends with 3 against the Reds at Wrigley, based on the start times.
  19. I can't believe tomorrow starts the last homestand of the year. This is really starting to wrap up isn't it?
  20. Kris has been in a bit of a slump the last week or so. I think he was an easier sell when his OPS was pushing 1.000 and his BA .310, now he's "only" at .956 and .297 so here come articles pushing other candidates.
  21. Arbitrary end points alert: Since July 10 (50 games): .183/.221/.256/.477 That's almost a third of a season hitting like that And remember that brief bump after he sat out the colorado series. Here are his numbers since that series including the bump: .213/.244/.293/.537
  22. It doesn't really ever matter. Like I said, it doesn't matter right now, but it does matter in the playoffs if he is coming up in the 6 spot with the middle of the order guys on base. Let Heyward take his walks in front of the pitcher. Yeah lineup constitution doesn't really matter from what I've read. Perhaps you don't want him coming up 6th with Russell and Rizzo on base and 1 out, but its equally less appealing to have Heyward and the pitcher due up after Javy and Contreras get on base to lead off an inning.
  23. Strangely enough this is only Lester's 2nd start against the Cardinals this year. I know the prevailing theory is that the Cubs moved Lester to line him up for Game 1, but I guess there's also a chance they moved him up to get another look at the Cardinals before a potential playoff match-up.
