  1. We talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but also Lou lifting Z after 80-something pitches in game 1 when he was cruising and saying he wanted to save Z to pitch on 3 days rest in game 4.
  2. In the site I linked last week, 44 'experts' pick the Bears and 22 pick the Eagles. http://nflpickwatch.com/
  3. that was great, as was Rondon randomly breaking out into a dance when interviewed, but I think that was after the NLDS win. Wish someone had video of that.
  4. then you'll probably be even more surprised that he went 2/4 with a R and RBI against us in the 07 playoffs For some reason, other than that ARI series, the one Cubs memory I have of Augie, is singling right before Sosa's game winning HR in extras in the 2nd game of the 5 game Cardinals series.
  5. what metrics has he been worse in? Besides FIP. all of them? k/9 - down bb/9 - up hr/9 - up babip - way down lob% - way up gb% - down hr/fb% - way up fip - up and that's all with the benefit of his amazing last 6 weeks or whatever I'm not saying he's not great, but he's been the beneficiary of a lot of luck and it's hilarious to see that he's had a worse season than last year, and he's a Cy Young candidate, while the prevailing nothing outside of cubs fans a year ago was that he disappointed. sometimes i wonder if ignorance is bliss. especially with me being a paranoid fan to a fault because instead of just enjoying lester pitching lights out, I now will spend 3 weeks worrying that things will normalize in October.
  6. I was gonna offer this. That season BABIP of .251 is so ludicrously out of step with decades of history... are we *that* good on defense and *that* good at getting weak contact? (Perhaps pitchers who induce weak contact synergize exceptionally well with great defenders, both improving each other?) If it was just luck though, and we were that much of an outlier, you would have expected the half season BABIP to start regressing, and it really hasn't, over thousands of batted balls. I dunno. I think the article proves that its a fairly balanaced mix of luck, ability to force weak contact, great defense, and great pitching. Of course luck is a chunk of that. But I'd guess that if the Cubs had neutral luck or even slightly below average luck they'd still be a top 3 rotation in the league because of those other factors. The luck just brings it into historic status. At least that's my theory after reading the article. I'm sure I do sound like a bit of a hypocrite to Cardinals fans though when I mocked them for their historically fluky numbers last year and now partially defend our even more outlier numbers this year.
  7. Awesome. I also saw that his daughter posted this thread on facebook, which I think is awesome that family and friends can see how beloved he was in the virtual world (which of course spilled out into his personal life as several stories here elude to).
  8. For his career, Lester is 4-16 hitting against the Cardinals, and 4-134 against all other teams
  9. 3 months ago: We are still in the division race, we just played the hard part of our schedule, they haven't had a down stretch yet. if we can get to 4-5 games by the break we like our chances 3 weeks ago: We are not thinking wild card, we are still thinking division. yesterday: We just need to split this series to stay alive in the wild card race
  10. I honestly cannot decide who I'd give the award to. Fernandez is a good choice I hadn't really considered as a prime candidate this year but the numbers check out. Lester, Hendricks, Scherzer and Bumgarner also all have good cases, Kershaw has a very outside chance.
  11. Welp, I went to the game against the Pirates last year where a win would have clinched a playoff spot, and they lost because we couldn't get Starlin home from 3rd with 0 outs. I'm going this year and hoping to have better results, but if they lose you can clearly all blame me.
  12. I'm sure they've fixed guys and we just didn't make a big deal out of it but it seems like the Cubs have 2 players who they tried to refine into better overall hitters with disasterous results.
  13. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/09/14/rizzos-2-hrs-help-cubs-beat-cardinals-clinch-playoff-spot/90373250/?hootPostID=3abb7d81be9aa587dc0ff5ca66b57c50 USA Today the first media I've seen to say the Cubs clinched at least a playoff spot today.
  14. 9-20-08 Of course in 2008 the season ended on September 27th I believe. This year it ends on Oct 2
  15. Oh wait I can pull up an obstructed view ticket for only $64!
  16. I don't know why I waited to buy tickets. Was able to pull up plenty of $30 tickets during the game, and on stubhub they were selling for 35. Now I cant pull up any tickets to the game, and the cheapest on stubhub are $69 (nice) Anyone want to sell me a face value ticket :)
  17. I wonder if MLB considers this an official clinch or if they even realize or care. Because technically no matter what outcome occurs the rest of the season, the Cubs will own a playoff spot. So it should be official, right?
  18. I think I can tell which tweets jersey makes on the account vs tweets tim makes
  19. I think that would make it 10 then. It was "officially" 12 coming into today, really 11 with the tiebreaker
  20. 31. That's his second today Forgot about that!
  21. Technically, since the Cards play 4 with the Giants and the Cubs combined magic #s with the two would be less than 4, the Cubs would clinch a playoff spot with a win today. Haha awesome, thanks bukie, 3 outs from a playoff spot
  22. Even though we already screwed the closer with a 4 run lead, I'll still call this a Screw the Closer game.
