  1. The Cubs have A LOT of money to spend this offseason. I don't want to see another significant dollar spent on the pen, the IF and C besides SS should be set. I want Murton to take one of the OF spots. That leaves a hell of a lot of money for 2 OF positions and SS. Dropping 5M on the potential for the best SS in the NL is not flushing down the toilet, it's a smart move. 5M could be spent on Nomar and Giles and whomever is the latest CF of choice can still be fit in the budget.
  2. Red Sox Angels Padres Astros Angels Astros Angels
  3. Nobody's going to comment on "trough's"?
  4. Umm, ND looks really good. [expletive] MSU
  5. I'm so glad I'm getting PSU/Minn. instead of USC/ASU. At least Penn St. is playing really well, but still.
  6. The team could absolutely tank next year lose and his next job will be as a manager. People will explain it away due to injuries and being the Cubs.
  7. Unless there's an injury. Nope, "injury" replacements have to have been on the 40 man roster by August 31st in order to be eligible.
  8. Like when we ranked the GMs, and I had him listed 4th. One of 4 guys that I described as great GMs.
  9. not much, but he had a terrible payroll to pare down and a system to cultivate. it's not like you can just change the course of a franchise in 3-4 years. So you're admitting that Ricciardi has done nothing to warrant the thoughts of him being better than Hendry. why do you hate him so much? does it bother the "old school" fan in you? it must also bother you that beane continues to be successful in oakland despite losing his 2 top starters, a move that many "smallballers" said would be his undoing because his "system" doesn't work. Find em, sully. Find the posts where I talk about how I hate these complicated and crazy stats. They're too much for my feeble brain!! Find the post where I said Beane's system doesn't work. Find some sort of evidence other than me occassionally suggesting that Beane isn't the best GM in the game, or that everyone that worked for the A's would be a great GM. Please find these things, otherwise I'd appreciate if you stopped lying repeatedly about me when the topic of Beane comes up.
  10. Ohhh man in exchange for the Padres beating the Cards after the Cards tanked, I think I'd take a White Sox ALDS win.
  11. I'd bet A LOT of money on the Brewers having a worse record next year than the Indians did this year.
  12. Three straight?? Paging Raisin!!
  13. CANO???
  14. That's pretty harsh. The Indians have played GREAT. Expecting them to win every game they play is a bit optimistic. Woulda been nice though. The White Sox need to only win 1 game now to force a 1 game playoff for the wild card.
  15. Question on this, let's assume the Cubs wind up with a better record than the winner of the NL West. Does the winner of the West still pick higher than the Cubs?
  16. Let's have a strong finish as long as we finish in the bottom 8 of the NL!!
  17. I'm pretty certain his 10/5 were in place by '98. There wasn't much of a market, Sosa openly said he'd like to go to the NYY. The seeds for the post 2004 smear campaign were sowed during this story. Andy, in his infinite wisdom, apparantly thinks its more important to please the fringe fans who make up the difference between a ho-hum 2.5 million attendance and 3.0 million attendence season. They clearly put way too much emphasis on fan backlash than baseball decisions. The trade could have been made, with or without Soriano, and it could have greatly benefitted the 2001-2005 Cubs. Not if the money was blown on Hampton, as was rumored. And I really doubt the Cubs are better in '01 if Sammy had been traded.
  18. Imagine that. And he's giving the rookies and kids a chance to play. huh. Yeah but those guys don't compare to gamers like Macias and NEIFI~!
  19. 3 out of 4 by Detroit is probably our last glimmer of hope :(
  20. well...JP uses stats/probability to pick a player. it isn't a full proof method, but the likelihood of him picking a solid player over the traditional scout method is appreciably greater. it may take time before we see it, but it will happen given enough time. BASED ON WHAT?? Everyone keeps spouting off old-schoolesque cliches about Ricciardi and nobody seems to have a single shred of evidence as to why he's a better GM than Hendry.
  21. I told my Sox fan friends tonight, if they lose 3 out of 4 to the Twins or get swept by the Indians that they're out. Agreement?
  22. Reading through this thread kinda made me glad I kept skipping over it. But yes, I will give props to Eckstein. He's not as ugly as Otis Nixon.
  23. not much, but he had a terrible payroll to pare down and a system to cultivate. it's not like you can just change the course of a franchise in 3-4 years. So you're admitting that Ricciardi has done nothing to warrant the thoughts of him being better than Hendry.
  24. If the Sox are winning, you mute during their half of the inning, then you turn the volume back on for their opponent assuming it's a close game. There's no better sound in baseball than the sound of silence emerging from the White Sox booth when they lose a lead.
