  1. After reading your post, I went to look it up, and I couldn't find any rules. But, all of the vote totals is for just the top three as you say. I could swear there were more. Old age is setting in, I guess. MVP is top 10, I believe everything else is top 3. Though I could be wrong on Cy Young.
  2. Betting on your own team is definitely detrimental. Not just for the reasons already stated about going all out to win that one game and costing yourself for the future. But what are you telling your bookie when you bet on your team for 3 games in a row and then don't bet on the 4th. It's not betting against your team, but it sure as hell is giving a tip to your hookup as to how that game's gonna end.
  3. Does this mean Mizzou actually has a chance of beating U of I? Breaking our infinity games winning streak against them?
  4. The Pac 10 was arguably the best conference in the nation this year. You're right, there is no argument. They were definitely the best conference in the nation.
  5. Do people really think Marquis is a better option than the best of our AAA arms?
  6. Mention USC '03-'04 and I bet Raisin will chime in with it.
  7. There are no 10th place votes in rookie of the year voting. Pretty sure it's just top 3.
  8. Yeah if I could be positive for just one second, Brian Carlwell looked very impressive out there in his limited time. I'd imagine he's gonna need some conditoning work though.
  9. I'm guessing Smith's ankle was acting up and they figured it wasn't worth risking losing him for most of the season. Re: Creating their own shot, the frontcourt is much better at it than the backcourt, unless Pruitt is stepping 3 feet out of bounds trying to make a baseline move.
  10. Rich McBride is an absolute bum. And Vazquez reminded of that guy you play pick up with that you just have to give a hard pick to to shut him up/make him whine.
  11. The passive defensive rebounding continues. Mike Jones is by far the most talented player on the court. And I still don't like Warren Carter.
  12. Is Miami really that bad (no offense, Jon and contable)? Would losses to Buffalo and Cleveland St. answer your question?
  13. Big 10/ACC Challenge continues tonight. ACC leads 1-0 after NC St. beat UM last night. All times are Central time zone. MD at Illinois 6 PM (ESPN FSU at Wisconsin 630 PM (ESPN2) Penn St. at Georgia Tech 7 PM (ESPNU) Indiana at Duke 8 PM (ESPN) Miami at Northwestern 830 PM (ESPN2) I like the Big 10 to take 3 tonight(but I'm a homer) If they manage to tie it at 3 tonight, I think it's quite possible they can finally get a win in this thing with tomorrow's matchups MSU at BC 6 PM (ESPN) Iowa at Va Tech 6 PM (ESPN) VA at Purdue 630 PM (ESPN2) OSU at UNC 8 PM (ESPN) Clemson at Minnesota 830 PM (ESPN2) In total, IU/Duke, PSU/Ga Tech, and Clemson/Minnesota look like guaranteed wins for the ACC. FSU/Wisky is the only "guaranteed win" for the Big 10. So we need to go 5-1 in the "toss ups"
  14. Supposedly, Maddux and Hendry parted on good terms in July. Though still somewhat improbable, with Piniella now in town, Maddux coming back to the Cubs is no longer impossible in my opinion. In fact, if the Padres, Giants or D-Backs don't grab him in the next week or so, I could see Hendry re-signing Greg to a 2-year $20M deal. On no planet is Greg Maddux worth $10m per. He's terrible now. On no planet is Greg Maddux terrible. He hasn't even been below average since 1987. He's an inning eating starter who'll put up average to above average #s based on how good the defense behind him is. I wouldn't give him 2/20, but he certainly deserves that more than Adam Eaton deserves 3/24. I'd take Maddux on a 1 year deal in a heartbeat. Sigh... May ERA: 5.94 June ERA: 6.25 July ERA: 5.21 That is not average. That's below average. And those 3 months combined with his great April made him an average pitcher for the Cubs last year. Throwing out a guy's best month by far accomplishes what exactly?
  15. "Pudge Rodriguez reportedly signs with the Cubs." -- from an Arizona radio station, no less :) lol.. when i saw the Maddux thing i thought it was true....... but once i saw thr Rodriguez thing.... i knew it was sarcasm! :D Yeah, take that garbage to Cubs.com. They were references to actual reports, the Maddux one from the Jersey Star-Ledger I believe.
  16. strange situation for them. two points either way to the fourth ranked team could mean the difference between a BCS game and the Lampshade Bowl. A similar thing happened to Tennessee in 2004. We made it to the SEC championship with two losses (I still have a little hate for ND for knocking Ainge out for the year in our loss to them) and outplayed Auburn but still lost and dropped from a BCS bowl to the Cotton Bowl. We went on to demolish TAMU in the bowl. Funny how the Cotton bowl is considered an inferior bowl. When I was a kid it was one of only 4 bowls on New Years day and it was a big one. The Southwestern Conference champ would go and play an at large. I remember Joe Montanas(really Notre Dame) comeback against Houston was a Cotton Bowl Yeah, the Cotton Bowl was the last bowl left out of the BCS-I have no idea how it became such a minor bowl so fast. Somehow the Fiesta elbowed its way in there $$$

  18. Boise and ND both look to be near-locks for BCS bowls. With Michigan already in the Rose Bowl/NC game, that leaves one spot for LSU, Florida (if they lose to Arkansas) or Louisville (if Rutgers beats WV). I'm guessing Florida loses to Arkansas and takes that final at-large slot, leaving Wisconsin vs LSU as the greatest non-BCS game of all time. Why would ND get an at-large over LSU who out-ranks them by five spots? Because the SEC can only send 2 teams. And if Arkansas wins the SEC title game, it's tough to take LSU over Florida when Florida beat LSU.
  19. I don't understand why ESPN employs Lou Holtz and allows him to speak on national television. The guy makes statements that hold absolutely no merit and are completely off base. Don't get me wrong, Mark May isn't great either, but at least he puts thought into his arguments and provides a good reasoning to go along with them. As an ND fan, Lou Holtz embarrasses me at this point. When someone tries to make an argument for your team and they are so horribly bad at it that it can easily be shot down by the whole country, the country can become convinced that there is no better argument out there. Every time Lou says something about ND, it just makes ND look weaker and weaker because of his horrible representation of the facts. I hope he retires-soon. He should stick to being a motivational speaker and leave it at that. Lou should not be a public speaker anywhere. Just a horrible voice.
  20. If ND wins, I think they deserve to pass Florida after Florida's display today.
  21. I don't think Jones or Soriano in CF is any less risky of a proposition than Drew in CF. Jones was only moved off of CF because of Hunter, and Soriano made some serious strides in his first year as an OF. Drew hasn't been a regular CF since '99.
  22. I'd be shocked if McFadden doesn't get an invite after today's performance coupled with McCoy's injury. I think he's most likely to go after Smith and Quinn.
  23. What if it's the same last name as a player?
  24. Will we lose additional lower round picks for signing additional free agents? Only if they're type As, and their former team offers them arbitration. And Muskat's wording was horrendous on that talk about sandwich picks, it definitely looks like she's saying it's the Cubs sandwich pick.
