    So people are now taking rumors of appearances in the Mitchell report as fact that said player used steroids? Hate to bring the far past up, but aren't you one of the people who said you are pretty sure Portis has been involved in dog fighting because he commented that he didnt' think it was that big a deal? I think this is as close to fact as it gets, without being able to place the needle in someone's......nevermind. I misread what you said. But I don't think it's a "rumor" that Prior is on the list. It's rumor. The leaked list isn't 100% accurate, baseball has said as much.

    If people are going to be outraged about Prior being on the leaked report(which is being contested), I hope they're outraged about Kerry too.

    Wasn't a math major but I don't think about 30 (active) players constitutes "1/2 the league." I was a math major and it's exactly half. Go look it up! 30 teams X 25 players = 750 total players 30/750 = .04 or 4% which is a lot less than 1/2 or 50%. You forgot to carry the one.

    Soto's AAA OPS this year was about 9000 points higher than any year Theriot had in the minors.

    Oh and I really think a lot of people in this thread aren't understanding the arbitration process. Even if Prior was holding out for a big contract, all the Cubs had to do was tender him an offer. The case would likely go to arbitration and Mark would get a 1 year deal for 3M. It wasn't a pay Prior 8M for one year or release him decision.

    I agree..Selfish..Didn't we pay him a 10 Mil bonus when we drafted him? Plus all the millions while he was injured? If he wanted to show any loyalty to this origanization, he wouldv'e given us the '09 option..I remember, before he was drafted, he wanted to be on a team that could win and preferred the west coast...Dont blame Henry or the Cubs..He just didn't want to be here.. We definitely didn't give him a 10M bonus when we drafted him. We gave him a major league contract because he was major league ready. How bout the peanuts he was paid for '03-'05? This expectation of loyalty out of guys is odd. Maybe the Cubs should be loyal for what Mark gave them in those 3 years.

    Mark Prior wanted a raise. He wanted 3.5 mill plus to sit on his butt until July at least. I haven't a clue how from what you quoted you come up with. A. Prior wanted a raise. B. Prior will be sitting on his butt til July.

    Prior's a smart guy, and I'd guess he doesn't suffer bumbling fools as well as most. Mussina gets the same reputation, be it because they're intelligent and sportswriters don't like players who they think think are a better than them, or because the players have no patience for idiocy. That was a horribly structured sentence, but I'm okay with it.

    For the record, according to BR, Prior made ~15M while pitching for the Cubs. He certainly more than earned the salary he took from them. I'm damn sick and tired of hearing about how Prior was stealing money from the Cubs while rehabbing after being one of the best pitchers in the majors in '03 and being damn above average in '04 and '05. This whole thing just sickens me.

    Anybody wanna bet that Prior gets more than 3M in free agency?? But yeah, certainly no market for him. Also, the Cubs are a terribly stupid franchise.

    I'd love to make a (modest) wager on this. Hey, I always admit when I'm wrong....I don't have a problem with that. If he does pitch, it'll be in September for a team that signs him to a 2 year deal. I think he gets a 1 year deal somewhere. If he thinks he's going to pitch this season, there's no reason for him to lock himself into a 2nd year at the price he'd likely be offered. I think it would take something along the lines of 2/12 to get him signed and I don't see any team doing that.(And with the report mentioned in VOR's post, they may be right not to.)

    That's an assumption. But him coming back and pitching 10-15 starts isn't? I think I have his past history on my side of the assumption while the other side of it is wishful thinking. There is no past history of Prior coming back from surgery. That type of surgery is different for Prior because he's Mark Prior? Doesn't it take a year? I thought you were talking about Prior coming back from injury. Prior's surgery was when? Back in May or something?

    Again, I'm fine with a 3 deal if they can trade him. Now, I have a question regarding players on the DL, can you trade him once he's on it? Because if the Cubs can't deal him and he's on the DL they may be stuck with him. You can trade players on the DL.
