  1. And you're counting on an injury free year? I agree with cubbiecolt. Now you'll be getting Roberts/Derosa at bats instead of Derosa/Fontenot/Floyd/Jones at bats. Tell me. Which one would you take? Already saw this story with Walker/Grudz in '04. All these ABs that are supposedly out there never materialize.
  2. He's a good talent, but old. He stayed in school at Miami (of all places) to get his aeronautical engineering degree. He's actually a good candidate to stay on the DL for most of the year as he blew out his knee. Miami is a pretty good academic school... the most visible part of the university, the football team, really brings its reputation down. But it's definitely ahead of UF and FSU academically. My high school comes in just ahead of FSU academically.
  3. I think we can rule out the possiblity of the Cubs actually doing it. Ryan Theriot's too dreamy. I think most of us can agree that this would be the best course of action.
  4. So you're counting on Ramirez being injured again(decent assumption), Lee being suspended/injured again, and our RF being no better than average.
  5. Iowa St thought they pulled off a major move until they noticed it was the wrong Miles. And then they realized they weren't even Iowa St. Mass confusion ensued.
  6. Good, baseball25or6to4 joined and creepily named his entry Addison Nickelson. That's kinda bizarre.
  7. Ball St. was 6-7 from beyond the arc. Hard to complain about the other team's hot shooting. You should beat Arkansas St.
  8. I was under the impression Soriano spoke some Japanese... he did spend some time over there, after all. That is what I was thinking. Derrek Lee also probably picked some of it up from his dad. They're probably not conversing in it in the clubhouse though. And bringing So Taguchi into the discussion on Japanese players is like bring Shinjo into it. Neither were supposed to be any good. They were brought over as backups, and that's what they were. There've only been 4 hyped hitters by my recollection. The Matsuis, Johjima, and Ichiro.(Iguchi and Iwamura are on the next level down) Those that have been expected to be good hitters have turned out pretty well.
  9. So is Drake the best team in Iowa this year??
  10. 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax 15. Jimmie Foxx 16. Pedro Martinez 17. Ty Cobb 18. Mel Ott 19. Rogers Hornsby 20. Albert Pujols 21. Stan Musial 22. Nolan Ryan 23. Mickey Mantle 24. Walter Johnson 25. Sammy Sosa 26. Satchel Paige 27. Greg Maddux 28. Cap Anson 29. Manny Ramirez 30. Bob Feller 31. Christy Matthewson 32. Mike Schmidt 33. Joe Morgan 34. Roberto Clemente 35. Vladimir Guerrero 36. Dale Murphy 37. Johnny Bench 38. Jim Edmonds 39. Todd Helton 40. Frank Thomas 41. Hank Greenberg 42. Mariano Rivera 43. Randy Johnson 44. Billy Wagner 45. Rusty Kuntz 46. Joe Nathan 47. Dick Pole 48. Joe Kennedy
  11. that's way beyond out budget unless the next move is trade zambrano for prospects Dumping Marquis and Dempster could cover the Tejada contract. Marshall and Gallagher/Hart/Prior to the rotation.
  12. I think they're completely appropriate. He's on something if he thinks league average performance should earn him $9m per. Do I have to sit and list all the contracts that have been handed out to league average or worse players in the past year. It's the new market, get used to it. Until these idiot GMs realize the growth won't be infinite. Then we can get back to good old fashioned collusion.
  13. Just because he is the only one who belongs in the majors on the market does not make him good or worth $36mil/4yrs. But if a team is looking to acquire a starting SS, and doesn't have the pieces for Tejada, what else do you suggest they do?
  14. Top of my head, not sure I can name 5 worse. Ed Wade, Ned Coletti, Wayne Krivsky...there's some incompletes out there. I think Sabean edges him out.
  15. Eckstein is the only SS on the market who belongs in the major leagues. It's not a bad starting point.
  16. All one has to do is look at the awful performances put up by our rookie pitchers in '06 to realize that Marquis does have value. It's not the best use of resources for the Cubs because we have some arms that can fill the spot, but above replacement pitchign that will start 32 times a year has value, and for what Marquis made last year, he was probably a bargain. All that said, I want him gone.
  17. Exactly. 22000+ posts, somewhere in there had to be a bit of padding. what does that make Raisin? A chit chatter.
  18. Haha, what the hell is wrong with Coletti?
  19. Barry Rozner and Steve Stone give this trade their seal of approval.
  20. It's a good start! I'm sure USC is also playing ND....is OSU playing any other BCS team? Jesu, Cuse you won't be satisfied until every team in the Big 10 and SEC plays top 25 teams on the road for all their noncon games. How bout you rail on those world beaters in your conference a bit. I want all of them, BE included to do so. Rutgers was the only BE team not to play at least 2 other BCS schools OOC. Nitpick, Cincy only played 1 OOC. With the Big East only playing 7 conference games, they pretty much have to play 1 BCS school OOC just to be equal to other BCS conferences.
  21. Brady Hoke would be a pretty terrible hire. I can't decide if I'm in favor or against that.
  22. College Bowl Mania. Link edited to go directly to game.
  23. Yes Mania. Updated title to reflect as much.
  24. Bruce loves the limelight. Or is it that he loves the night life and that he likes to boogie? I keep forgetting. Actually, "Limelight" is one of my favorite songs from my favorite band, Rush. But enough about me. You had me until this.
