  1. When the offense fails inning after inning to get a big hit to blow the game open, this is what you deserve.
  2. The failure to get hits with the bases loaded is frustrating. It would have been nice for Colvin to take at least one strike after the Soto walk to load the bases. They need to be reminded the pitcher is in trouble.
  3. Nothing? They're being very patient, putting up a number of deep counts, have scored 2 runs on only 3 hits and have had 3 hits robbed singlehandedly by Chris Young. I can only go by what I see on the game cast. But, they have 3 hits through 6 innings against a guy no one would consider real good. I am glad they are working the count, they should against a guy like this.
  4. With defensive miscues and Dempster not being real good, it is taking the focus off the offense for not doing much against a guy who barely beat out Aaron Heilman for the 5th starter on a bad team.
  5. 16 whole pitches through 2 for the Joe Saunders. Wow, Quade and Jaramillo have a way with an offense.
  6. I am not bothered by Barney in the lineup although batting 2nd seems odd. I am bothered with Fukudome on the bench and Marlon Byrd in the starting line-up batting 3rd. Fukudome has been on base 4 times in 7 plate appearances and he doesn't play. I understand the people above Quade want Colvin to play, but why at the expense of Fukudome? As the season moves on, I hope Byrd and Soriano produce at a level that deserves playing time, but if they struggle Quade needs to be willing to sit them like he is doing to Fukudome now. I'd like to know what Byrd has done in his career that has made Cubs management think he is an impact player?
  7. What is the point of this signing?
  8. I feel the same way. Unless of course he is facing the Cubs in the World Series, then I hope he gives up a few runs :D My buddy and I took his dad to a Cubs game in Milwaukee in 2006. At the time, we didn't realize we were watching Prior's last appearance for the Cubs.
  9. Why do people care what the contract implications are for the Phillies? If they are behind the 8-ball in a few years, good it could make it easier for the Cubs. Also, since tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, I'd just as soon have the teams I root for try to win the next championship. Afterall, it is just one form of entertainment.
  10. his performance has nothing to do with what spot in the lineup he bats. His career splits don't agree with you. So when do we use stats and when don't we? Ok, over a 162 game schedule we can expect certain things from Marlon based on his career averages. None of his numbers would suggest he is the type of hitter most people would bat 3rd.
  11. A big F No to Byrd hitting 3rd. He was horrible in that spot last year - .227/.272/.300/.572 with one homerun and 17 rbis in 52 games in 2010. Unless he somehow becomes a more patient hitter, I don't want him in front of Pena, Ramirez or Soto. I'm not sure why the Cubs treat Soto like he is as bad as Koyie Hill at the plate.
  12. If the Cubs insist on having Marlon Byrd in the starting line-up, I don't want anything to do with the Marlon Byrd that batted third after Lee was traded. That was like having a pitcher batting 3rd. For those who don't remember, he batted 3rd 52 times last year (1/3 of a season) and posted this line .227/.272/.300/.572 with one whole home run and 17 rbis. Please tell me Mike Quade knows this. Marlon was pretty good in the 4th or 5th spot but brutal in the 3rd spot. His contract is not bad, maybe he should be on the block as a trade while his value is high like DeRosa a couple of years ago. As for Webb, shoulder injuries are tough to overcome but if he is healthy and can regain the sinker, he would be a very good addition.
  13. But didn't you have hope that the Ricketts family would have a better plan than they have demonstrated so far? Tom seems like he is in way over his head and why on earth would any new ownership group keep the same Pres and GM that have not produced a consistent winner?
  14. I didn't say not signing Berkman was a PR blunder. But deferring money on a one year contract to a free agent is comical. This organization is struggling to do anything right since the end of the season whether it is player acquisition or the business side of the organization.
  15. For $8 million which team would you rather play for? That is the reality of the situation. The Cubs are doing a fantastic job of driving fans away from the team. It is early yet, but so far the Ricketts clan seem to make PR blunder after PR blunder.
  16. I'm all for bringing him back at the right deal as long as the means the Cubs are moving Cashner back to a starter.
  17. So how does a guy who could barely get a job two years ago and settled for a 2 year deal for $10 mil per now gets a 4 year deal for $14 mil per year? He is the same player he was then except for 2 years older. I'm not mad the Cubs didn't get Adam Dunn necessarily, but I am mad that there is no money to spend.
  18. Another tremendous defensive gem by Koyie Hill. Wow, Quade you are brilliant I really hope they keep you as manager. That might have been the easiest ball in the dirt to ever get by a catcher.
  19. Damn that Koyie Hill !! Just slapped me in the face again !! Yep, another key hit by Koyie Hill. There is no reason for Wellington Castillo to be riding the bench in favor of this piece of crap. Soto can't play a day game after a night game or play 5 straight games, but the worthless backup can when Soto is hurt. More brilliance by Cubs management. Is it any wonder they are battling Milwaukee for 4th place...
  20. Nice at bats by Byrd, Ramirez and Nady. I don't care how far back this team is, for Quade to leave Byrd in the 3rd spot is ridiculous. His numbers in almost 50 games hitting 3rd this year are Koyie Hill type of numbers. And the fact the Koyie Hill keeps playing is a slap in the face of the fans.
  21. Quade goes back to the veteran line-up and they get 2 whole hits. Comical. Runners on first and second with one out in the 5th or 6th and Marlon Byrd swings at the first two pitches, both fastballs above the letters. He then hits into a 5-4-3 double play. I don't care to look up his stats as the third hitter, but in the games I've seen, he's been about the most unproductive 3 hitter I've seen. I hope Hendry sells high on him this winter. The chances of him being as good as he's been this year are not good.
  22. I know they suck and are 20 games out, but the last two at bats by Jeff Baker are perfect illustrations why this team has such an inconsistent offense. Man on third with less than two outs and both times he swings at first pitch sliders low and away which sets up 2 strikeouts. Could a coach maybe suggest to be a little patient, if the pitch isn't right down the middle, it is ok to take it. Is it really that hard to have a thought process as a major league player? Even worse, Koyie [expletive] Hill is the next hitter.
  23. Of course, he only hits 8th because of the stupidity of the managers. Another zero run inning after having the first two guys reach.
  24. Dempster you are comical. Way to pick up your teammates after a mistake and way to protect a 2 run lead. How about a fastball on 1-2 to the 8th place hitter? Two horrendous outings this week against bad teams.
