  1. Apparentlt, Castillo had his chance and his one bad offensive game overshadows Hills years worth of bad offensive games. When ownership keeps the same people in place regardless of the outcome, what do you expect? What is worse is Hendry and Quade both saying "we are in the earning business" when it comes to playing time, but Hill is on the team and plays pretty much every day when Geo takes his annual trip to the DL. They really don't give the fans a reason to care.
  2. Nice to finally see a hitter split a gap with the bases loaded. Hopefully Garza will be able to pitch effectively after the long delay.
  3. Has there been an announcement about what time they might start playing? Never mind...they are playing.
  4. Yep. They score on a ground ball back to the mound that Garza can't field because he falls off the mound after his delivery. This team sure if fun to watch.
  5. This team makes it damn near impossible to enjoy watching a ball game. What kind of secondary lead is Ramirez not getting that he can't score on a two hopper through the middle of the diamond? Then Soriano swings at a pitch up and in on 3-1 instead of taking it and Hill is useless so the scoring threat is dead.
  6. well they don't walk enough and don't hit for much power, so with those things in mind, it's not that hard to lose games when you outhit the opponent. I can understand the argument about not hitting for power, but do you mean that they would win more games if they substitute some of their hits for more walks? i mean that the main way they get on base is via hits and they aren't getting on base much besides getting hits. it's not like they're getting 12 hits a game and also walking 6 times. if your team hits a bunch of singles and doesn't do much else on offense, you can easily lose games where you have more hits than your opponent. It also means you are among the league leaders in team batting average but near the bottom in runs scored.
  7. well they don't walk enough and don't hit for much power, so with those things in mind, it's not that hard to lose games when you outhit the opponent. I can understand the argument about not hitting for power, but do you mean that they would win more games if they substitute some of their hits for more walks? I think he means they don't draw walks so there are not as many base runners when they do get hits, nor do they work the count when guys are on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Ramirez was 3 for 3 but came up in that situation and looks like he is trying to hit a crap ball low and away 600 feet. The result, an infield fly. If he takes the pitch, it is ball one and who knows what happens This team is an absolute joke when it comes to the mental aspect of the game. I guess it wasn't all Lou's fault. :D
  8. Any further word on the severity of Soto's groin strain? If he goes to the DL, I sure hope Quade doesn't play Hill everyday like Lou did.
  9. On one hand, Hendry has had more success with the Cubs than any GM I can remember. And while that doesn't mean that much given the futility of the Cubs, he has managed to lift expectations of the fans. On the other hand, Hendry has had a better opportunity financially than previous Cubs GMs and has failed to "get good and stay good" (I think that was his line). For me, anything short of the playoffs and Jimbo is gone. I'd say anything short of a championship, but that is probably too harsh given expectations at the start of the year. During his time, the team has had one real good year offensively and that was 2008, otherwise it has been the same crap every year. Although I am not as much into stats as others, Hendry scoffs at them. The 2008 team was very patient, had a terrific on base percentage and enough power to make pitchers pay. Since then, the team has fallen back to a typical Hendry team - little patience and a hard time scoring runs consistently if they are not hitting the ball out of the park
  10. Maybe it is me, but it seems like Castro is pulling everything these days. Lazy ground outs to 3rd are getting old. Advanced scouts are seeing this and continue to throw hard stuff inside. Time for Castro to make an adjustment.
  11. I am at the point where I want Quade to give every hitter the take sign on the first pitch with runners on 3rd base. Every pitching staff takes advantage of the Cubs aggressiveness by pitching low and in for the easy grounder to the left side and more often than not the Cubs oblige. The pitcher is in trouble guys and all you do is bail him out.
  12. 3-2 with two outs and Pena gets a perfect pitch to line into the left field corner - instead he takes it for strike 3. Do they pay attention to the calls Davidson has made so far? I am all for being patient and not making outs, but that was far too close to take after Pena got the benefit of the call on the previous pitch.
  13. What an offensive display by the Cubs. Byrd can't make an out quick enough with guys on base and Ramirez looks like he is trying to yank everything out of the park.
  14. Wow - those were hit real good. Big Z will really be swinging hard! Hey Quade, you might want to move those two up in front of Baker and Byrd.
  15. Nice to see Marlon Byrd continue to swing at first pitch sinkers on the outside corner with runners on base. I don't understand why any decision maker with the Cubs thinks that Byrd is a good player. I know they don't want to rush Brett Jackson, but if the team doesn't start winning, there is no reason not to give the kid a try.
  16. Another game where the Cubs get a lot of hits but so far don't get the key hit with runners on base. Len pointed out they were 11th in the NL hitting with runners in scoring position - that has to improve. At least they are getting chances and not making it easier on opposing pitchers.
  17. Nice job Tyler Colvin. Good win and a tough night to play baseball.
  18. Yes, he is their TV announcer. Just really random and strange to me. He usually does home games only. Weird indeed. With the forecast for the series, I bet he wishes he would have stayed home this time :-)
  19. Is anyone warming up for the Cubs? If they don't win it in the bottom of the 9th is Quade sticking with Marmol?
  20. Let's just play at McCormick Place because that's basically what that monstrosity in Milwaukee is. BS - Miller Park isn't perfect but it is a great place to attend a game. I don't understand the attraction of an old crappy stadium where the home team has never won a championship and the weather can make it a miserable experience.
  21. Night games in April at Wrgley Field are so foolish. The Cubs deserve to have attendance like the Pirates. I'd much rather see a new stadium similar to Miller Park than have the ownership group waste money on Wrigley.
  22. You're kidding right? Yes, they missed some opportunities, but ultimately they scored 5 runs, and 4 of those came off of the guy that half the people in this thread were [expletive] their pants over the idea of the Cubs having to face him. How about Coleman and and Wood don't give up 6 [expletive] runs to a team that amounts to little more than Fielder-Braun-Weeks and a collection of hot garbage? No, I am not kidding. They let the Brewers stay in the game because the offense did not get a key hit with runners on base the last 5 innings. While the offense scored 5 runs, they should have had more. Did you watch the game? When you have a leadoff double and then the guy on 3rd with one out and don't score that is bad. Then you have 1st and 2nd no outs and don't score, that is bad. Then you have the bases loaded with one out against the immortal Kameron Loe and only score one run in a tie game. Any way you cut it, the offense could have made this a lot easier on the bullpen. I agree that the pitching wasn't good enough, but I don't know how you can think scoring 5 today, given the opportunities they had, was a good enough either.
  23. I had hopes the Cubs would be a surprise team this year, but so far it looks like 2010 all over again. The stolen base attempt by Byrd was laughable, but there were plenty of chances to score earlier in the game.
