  1. But will they spend the money on big additions or will they allow Ramirez to leave and go with Baker/DeWitt? If they keep Aramis, sign Fielder and acquire another starting pitcher then they are right back in the hunt.
  2. I guess I feel that way because they appear to have the talent to be better than they are. I really thought they would be they would be able to stay around .500.
  3. I won't say they are the worst Cubs team I've ever watched, but they are one of them.
  4. Geo takes too many called 3rd strikes. As a catcher, I'd like to think he has an idea of how the ump is calling the strike zone. A positive note, the Cubs haven't scored but they have made Greinke throw a lot of pitches.
  5. Baker can actually really help us next year, especially in a platoon at third if we don't bring Aramis back. I agree that saying what Hendry did and then appearing desperate to dump Z doesn't make any sense. Yep, Baker can help the Cubs finish 5th again. He is a BENCH player, none of them are so valuable that they can't be traded if a team like Boston wants to give up a young player.
  6. Nice job of getting out of a tough spot by Zambrano. Brenly is hilarious tonight with his obvious frustration by the play of both teams.
  7. There's very good arguments as to why trading Byrd this year WOULD be stupid. Why would it be stupid to trade Byrd this year? He has actually been hitting lately so now is the time to move him. Unless you think his $6.5 million salary for next year is an issue for some teams, I am not sure why it would be stupid to trade him now.
  8. I will first say, it doesn't matter to me who they trade. What I find amusing is Hendry has said he doesn't want to trade anyone who can help the team win in the future. Supposedly "anyone" includes Jeff flippin Baker but not Zambrano. Is it any wonder they are 19 games under .500?
  9. He can't really be any worse than what gets run out there every other night lately. He's a worse fielder and hitter. Why on earth don't they send Campana back down and get an outfielder who can play left field if they decide they've seen enough of Soriano?
  10. Yes, Rudy deserves the Cubs. Seriously though, don't you wonder what is said, if anything, when they bring in a reliever who has to pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out? Again, I don't expect Soriano to be anything other than what he is, but the writers and Cubs brass claim Barney has a high baseball IQ yet he swings at a terrible pitch. Like Gerald Perry used to say, you don't necessarily go to the plate looking for a walk, but you look for a pitch to drive, not just a pitch you can hit. It is funny that he became a scapegoat, but Hendry isn't questioning Rudy's ability when his teams have been at the bottom of the league in offense.
  11. If not for the error in the 9th inning, the Brewers bullpen would have recorded 12 outs while facing 11 batters to end the game. Another fine outing by Rudy Jaramillo's hitters.
  12. What an absolute joke of a team. The failure to retire a .225 hitter in the first inning and failure to produce a couple of runs after the bases were loaded and no outs is criminal. They get what they deserve.
  13. I have a bad feeling after the two out walk to Casey Ruth. Well, thankfully I was wrong, but when that left the bat I thought it would be over Soriano's head and maybe over the wall.
  14. Is it really expecting too much to expect major league hitters to have a [expletive] clue as to what the opposing pitcher is trying to do? I expect Soriano to be a mental midget, but to watch Barney swing at a pitch low and away with less than 2 strikes is ridiculous. He is supposed to be a smart player yet doesn't realize that the pitcher is the one in trouble when the bases are loaded. As crappy as Dempster was in the first inning, he has kept the team in the game while the offense wets the bed again.
  15. 45 pitches through 2 innings for Dempster. Meanwhile, the Cubs are wasting no time making outs against the immortal Mr. Narveson. He might get to 30 pitches after 3 innings if he isn't careful.
  16. It started bad, but nice recovery by Wells to get out of the first without allowing a run.
  17. Johnson RF Castro SS Ramirez 3B Baker 1B Soto C Byrd CF Soriano LF Barney 2B Wells P I don't like the all right handed line-up against a lefty. If balance is important against a righty, it should be important against a lefty. Then again, the Cubs don't have left handed hitters who have shown they should play against a left handed pitcher.
  18. It was a struggle but Zambrano managed to get a quality start. Can the bullpen hold the lead?
  19. All I can say is WOW when it comes to how hot Ramirez is at the plate.
  20. Hell no! Swing early, swing often. Is there a more unproductive hitter in baseball than Marlon Byrd? At least from the standpoint that his team thinks he is a middle of the order type of hitter. Didn't both Byrd and Soto hit the ball hard? No idea, I am "watching" the game via Gameday.
  21. For the payroll dollars spent, the Cubs are the worst team in MLB. They may be one of the worst teams in the past 30 years, again from the perspective of dollars spent.
  22. Hell no! Swing early, swing often. Is there a more unproductive hitter in baseball than Marlon Byrd? At least from the standpoint that his team thinks he is a middle of the order type of hitter.
  23. Another leadoff double. Will they score this time? Magic 8 ball says...
