  1. She was on a Christian radio station. What do you think the average listener to that station thinks about the "value" of a baseball player? I am not arguing, just asking.
  2. i assume that you have been extremely wealthy and therefore are able to make judgments about what is and is not stressful for people who have a lot of money? because it sure sounds like you have perspective that none of us have. We all have "stressful" situations in life but I understand my problems are not as bad as what some people are going through. It doesn't mean they are not stressful to me, but I carefully chose my words when talking about them to other people. Did Mrs. Pujols show any empathy toward the employees of the restaurant who will lose their jobs if it closes? Again, perspective is a key word. I think it is funny that you have no problem judging my comments but have a problem with how I judge the comments of Mrs. Pujols.
  3. Joe Saunders was Non-tendered by the Diamondbacks. I can't say that I know much about him. Is he the type of pitcher the Cubs would be looking to sign?
  4. Complaining about a multi-million dollar contract offer and to act as it was an insult, is dumb on her part. Then to make a comment about it being a stressful situation is incredibly moronic. Perspective is needed on her part. so apparently anyone who has been making multi-million dollars per year and will continue to make that kind of money is not allowed to be upset about the offer, no matter what they're offered. when a couple has lived in one place for 10 years, established a life and a business there, and have a special needs child that has support set up in that city, and they're possibly moving on to another place, believe it or not there might be some stress involved. she didn't say that she was worried about putting food on the table, but yes, it is stressful to human beings when they don't know where they'll be working or living a couple of months from now. the only thing that is incredibly moronic is you thinking that rich people shouldn't feel stress because they're financially secure. I guess you (and others here) don't understand the last part about perspective. When thousands of people in the greater St. Louis area are without jobs and are losing everything, I'd say it is incredibly moronic for a multimillionaire to act like picking where to make more millions is stressful. They chose to leave St. Louis and while she thought it was stressful, do you really think it compares to some of the dire situations many people are facing? I just think showing some compassion for people who are really in stressful situations would have been a wise thing for her. Again, they could have signed an extension in March and not have any of the stress you speak of. If she is as religious as she claims, she'd be a lot more humble.

  6. You mean you don't understand all the stress they were under. Boy are you heartless... :-) First, I am not sure why anyone would waste their air time interviewing her. Second, it would have been nice if one of the hosts would have called her on these comments. It just goes to show that money can't buy class.
  7. Carpenter is not an option for 2012. I am pretty sure the Cardinals extended him in September.
  8. The Cardinals refused to budge from that offer until now. Well, yes when there wasn't a counter proposal from Pujols and his agent there was no reason to change their 9 year offer. I think the Cardinals would have been smarter going to 10 years in March with 2011 being year 1 of the deal.
  9. So in the end, it looks like Albert just wanted the Cardinals to raise their offer to 10 years. Why not just counter their offer in spring training and avoid this circus? I guess he was hoping some team might actually offer him a deal bigger than the $252 million ARod received a few years ago.
  10. Just saw Cubs news on CSN Chicago. Can someone please tell Pat Boyle that the Cubs lost about $45 million in contracts after the 2011 season. He said the Cubs can't afford Pujols and then asked the creepy Patrick Mooney about Fielder. Mooney of course starts out with babble about how the Cubs are not in a position to win in 2012 so Fielder makes no sense. Then he goes on to say LaHair will be one of the players the Cubs think can provide production at 1B. My God, how do these guys get and keep jobs in the media?
  11. Earlier news tonight had a 3rd "mystery team" also offering 10 years and now Sherman says the Cubs are still involved. Very interesting developments.
  12. I'm sure it is a budget issue, but why wouldn't the Angels just sign Hernandez and keep the young pitcher?
  13. The last quote about hitters approach to facing Marmol is great. It was pretty clear last year that was the approach a lot of teams took. It will be interesting to see who is chosen for pitching coach and see how they can get Marmol more consistent. Assuming of course that Marmol is still on the team.
  14. Like most here, I trust the choice made by Theo and Jed. I am more concerned with who the 25 guys Sveum will manage will be.
  15. You are right, but Gehrig has slightly better offensive numbers over a longer period of time.
  16. Why would Kurkjan wonder if the Cubs had the money to sign Fielder? Especially if Ramirez is not part of the 2012 team. Also, while Albert is fantastic, there was a guy name Lou Gehrig who would like to talk to Kurkjan about the great first baseman in baseball history.
  17. When I heard this, my thought was "Wow, a GM that doesn't destroy the value of a player he may want to trade. What a concept." =D>
  18. It was great to hear Theo talk more in-depth on CTL after the press conference. It is hard to temper the excitement his hiring has created. I also liked the fact he was joking about Starbucks and the movie Office Space. I think that just makes him come across as a confident guy who isn't afraid to have a good time. A big thank you again to Tom Ricketts for making this happen.
  19. I hope they go nuts. No problem with more ads, a jumbotron, the renovations, starting their own TV network...DO IT ALL. I have a friend who has been a season ticket holder for a long time and he claims the Cubs are planning to have their own network by 2014. He heard that in August during the meet and greet the Cubs had with season ticket holders at Wrigley. YES Network is a huge revenue maker for the Yankees.
  20. This has been one very entertaining thread. I had not been happy by the lack of moves by Tom Ricketts but I am glad to say I was totally wrong about him. His patience paid off in a big way and it is an exciting time for Cub fans! Bravo to you Tom =D> =D> =D> I like my crow medium well.
  21. Its on WSCR too. Thanks. And thank you Tim for sharing the good news.
  22. How come that press release posted by Tim cannot be found anywhere else? Not saying I don't believe it but cannot find it anywhere else.
  23. Yet Quade thinks he'll be back next year as manager of the Cubs. I can't believe Ricketts hasn't ordered Bush to tell Quade that young players play everyday regardless of the position of the opposition and what hand their starting pitcher throws with. I'd like to see Clevenger catch more than one game too.
  24. I'm still not understanding why those above Quade allow him to keep Colvin on the bench. Not that I think Colvin is a realistic option for an everyday outfielder, but I am pretty sure the Cubs know what they have in Soriano and Byrd.
  25. Jeff Baker - the guy who couldn't be traded even though he couldn't beat out Darwin Barney - is back in the line-up again. Since June 1 he has been horrible. Why not just let Lemahieu play 1B again like he did when he was with the team earlier this year? I know you shouldn't place too much emphasis on Sept stats, but there really isn't a reason for Quade to keep playing Johnson and Baker against left handed starters when there are young guys on the roster who could play.
