  1. Ricketts has had 3 years to evaluate things. The second they decided to enter the bidding for the team, I would think they were consulting with baseball people who had been successful building an organization. My gosh, did they only consult with Crane Kenney? Come on, quit making excuses for them. You don't just write a check on Monday for $845 million and take over the team on Tuesday. Each ownership group was asked to OK an extension for Jim Hendry, so it is not like they haven't been involved with the team before they officially took over the day-to-day control of the team. In public, Ricketts says the right things about winning, but what are they doing to improve the team? I didn't expect them to come in with an open checkbook, but to keep Crane Kenney as President. That is ridiculous. Remember, Tom Ricketts himself has said numerous times, Hendry makes the call on the manager. So just what is Ricketts going to do about the product on the field, if he lets the same people run the baseball side of this business?
  2. What the hell is Ricketts going to do? Also just so you know, Ricketts didn't have to choose between fixing the bathrooms or spending more money on the team. He is the owner, so he has to worry about all areas of the team even if winning is his #1 priority. When there are so many problems with the product on the field, he looks like an idiot constantly worrying about the ballpark and the "fan experience." Winning cures all. Cub fans need to treat this organization like the Blackhawk fans treated it...quit going to games, quit buying merchandise and quit watching/listening. As a fan, I am sick of hearing Ricketts talk about winning yet nothing changes in relation to the baseball operations. Piniella should be fired today. You can't fire 25 players, but Lou can go. Again, one run in 4 of the last 5 games and he basically does nothing to shake things up.
  3. Am I the only one who finds great pleasure in watching left handed hitters from other teams get key hits against Cubs left handed pitchers? I can't stand how Lou treats his left handed hitters, regardless of how many times average left handed hitters get hits against his lefties.
  4. If the Cubs don't score another run, this will be the 4th time in the last 5 days they only scored 1 run. Yet Lou and Hendry are only worried about the bullpen? Ramirez should have been placed on the DL when his thumb was bad and then allowed to play 3 or 4 games in the minors on a rehab assignment. They can't keep letting him play with the hope he will turn it around. There is absolutely no signs of him getting better.
  5. What was the purpose of Xavier Nady pinch hitting against a right handed pitcher? If the Cubs lose 3 straight to this team again, Piniella better be fired. If not, Ricketts and his family will have a big F on their report card for this year. Yeah Tom, lets worry about bathrooms, Toyota signs and buying a rooftop. Does he realize the only "tradition" of Wrigley Field is one of losing?
  6. At this point, I want Hendry just to sit there and watch this team continue to suck so he and Lou are both gone at the end of the year. I used to be a Hendry supporter, but not anymore. I used to think Lou was a very good manager, but the last two years have convinced me, that regardless of what he says, he has no desire to actually try something to get this team out of its funk. It is true, the players have to perform, but there is no reason for Marlon Byrd, Ryan Theriot, Aramis Ramirez or D. Lee to play as much as they have when they are struggling. I know there are not a lot of options, but Fontenot and Baker can handle 2nd base and Colvin should start seeing a lot more playing time. Either that or just accept Theriot as the right handed 2nd base platoon, release Baker and call up Chad Tracy and give him a few starts at 3rd base. Then again, do nothing and lose your jobs Lou and Jim. Maybe that is a better idea.
  7. He really has earned more PT than Lou is giving him. Regardless of the fact that Lou made a big show of vowing to get the kid the playing time he needed and then, without any discernible reason, just forgot about him, I mentioned in another game thread that Lou had no problems sitting Byrd when he was hot, but now that he is cold, Lou puts him in their every day. It is very confusing to me. I really wish the writers had the balls to ask Lou why. Who cares how he responds.
  8. So much for line-up changes Lou. Moving the deck chairs on the Titanic... :banghead:
  9. 9 [expletive] pitches after a 35 pitch, 3 run inning. Cubs baseball at its finest.
  10. Failure to take advantage of basesloaded with only one out and then Dempster promptly walks a guy hitting .202 and 3 runs later... This team is very hard to root for.
  11. Chance to break the game wide open against a struggling pitcher and after a big error and D Lee swings at a first pitch that I wouldn't call a good pitch to swing at and the potential big inning is thwarted. Lee was very patient his first two times yet is over anxious when the pitcher is trouble. I have trouble understanding the thought process of major league baseball players. I have no problem swinging a first pitch fastball in the middle of the plate, but a pitch up and away doesn't seem like the ideal pitch to me.
  12. WTF is that D Lee? You swing at a 3-1 pitch, ankle high on the outside corner and ground out weekly. You don't have to swing on 3-1. My gosh, this is ridiculous.
  13. I don't have a problem with trying to make something happen, but if it was a hit and run, Theriot is supposed to swing not take the pitch.
  14. I think Castro needs a day off. He's faced some pretty tough pitching this week and he is scuffling. Byrd starting everyday is really getting ridiculous. It is funny how Lou was willing to sit him in favor of Colvin when Byrd was hot, but when he is ice cold, Lou sends him out their everyday. Very frustrating when a young player is actually producing but doesn't get a chance.
  15. Silver linings...Russell was really good, Colvin produced in his one chance and Howry's ERA plummeted to 9.18. Ok the last one has a little sarcasm in it.
  16. At what point will Lou actually bench an ice cold Marlon Byrd and give Colvin a chance to play? I'm not looking for a permanent thing, but Colvin deserves more playing time.
  17. Would you rather him be at home with his appendicitis? Don't quit your day job.
  18. Lou said Zambrano is at the hospital with symptoms that resemble appendicitis. That is not good.
  19. Tyler Colvin comes through!!! The rookie right fielder had a tough time again. Welcome to right field at Wrigley.
  20. What happened? Lou came out to talk to Baker who looked like he wasn't feeling well.
  21. Based on Lou's reaction when looking at Marlon and the fact Lee looked back, I'd say Marlon missed a hit and run sign. Way to get the actor out of there quick Len! Even still, you don't be taking risks like that when you've had 2 baserunners total today. Not saying I agree with what Lou did, just letting you know it wasn't a straight steal. It also figures Marlon Byrd would take a pitch when he usually swings at everything.
  22. Based on Lou's reaction when looking at Marlon and the fact Lee looked back, I'd say Marlon missed a hit and run sign. Way to get the actor out of there quick Len!
  23. Casey Blake is rightfully arguing that Lilly isn't making contact with the rubber. Comcast showed it last inning but neith Bob nor Len made a comment. They were showing he was pitching from the 3rd base side of the rubber but his foot was in front of the rubber as he began his wind-up. Blake was using his hands to show the ump how far Lilly was from the rubber. Good catch by Blake, not sure why Bob didn't say anything about it.
  24. Every team is awesome when they play the CUBS !!!! Except the Brewers!
  25. The Reds sweep the Pirates allowing a few runs and the Pirates come in and put 9 up on the Cubs. The Royals fired their manager, yet the team with $145 million payroll thinks the status quo is fine. How the hell can Ricketts watch this crap and not clean house?
