  1. Not that I don't want to see more offense, but it would be nice to see the Cubs win a 3-2 game.
  2. Nice job Byrd, Ramirez and Colvin. Back from the dead for a 3-2 lead!
  3. But the key is the approach to hitting those strikes. If he is going to throw outside, you have to be willing to go that way. He gets a lot of movement on his pitches so he is jamming a lot of Cubs hitters. He doesn't throw that hard so I would have the batters move up in the box, but most major league players don't do things like that anymore.
  4. For crying out loud Cubs, you don't have to swing at every 2-0 sinker on your hands.
  5. Basic fundamental plays a team supposedly practice daily in spring training and the $145 million team can't execute. Since you can't fire all the players, maybe it is time to send Lou to the retirement home. This team needs something to wake it up. Playing mediocre teams sure hasn't seemed to help.
  6. Going to be a tough day for the Cubs if the home plate ump keeps giving a rookie pitcher 6 inches off the outside corner.
  7. While I'd rather have them play better and make the playoffs, I totally understand this sentiment. If they get swept tomorrow, I would fire Piniella and replace him with Trammel for now. Something needs to be done to wake up this team.
  8. I'm sure Lou is thinking Marmol hasn't pitched since Saturday so he needs to get him in a game.
  9. 0-8 from Theriot and Fukudome tonight. Haven't said that too much lately. Brewers pound the Pirates in Pittsburgh, Cubs pound Brewers, Cubs do very little in two games against the Pirates. Gotta love baseball.
  10. How about a 4 or 5 run rally to give Big Z a chance for a win out of the bullpen!
  11. I was thinking the same thing when I saw Cedeno right in front of the ball. The infield hit Cedeno had earlier seemed like a routing play for most shortstops. Ha, it just happened again with Bubba Crosby. My gosh Theriot, that is ridiculous.
  12. It is not that surprising because Theriot has been having good at bats for a couple of weeks while Byrd is a very aggressive hitter. That is why I am surprised at Theriot's approach tonight. Ryan Church is the latest example to Lou that left handed hitters can be put in the line-up against left handed starting pitchers.
  13. After scoring two runs and making Morton work a little, the genius Cubs make him throw 8 whole pitches to get through the 5th. Theriot has seen 6 pitches in 3 at bats. I'd sure like to know what the hell goes through his mind. Lilly grounds out to lead off the inning and before he sits down, Theriot makes an out. That is just stupid.
  14. I think Morton had 29 pitches through 3 innings. He now has 56, so they made him work that inning. Come on Ted, you need to have a shut down inning after the offense got a couple of runs.
  15. Good job Fontenot, 3-2. But just the Cubs luck that would bounce off the stands like that so the runners couldn't get an extra base. Come on Koyie Hill.
  16. It was a line drive between short and third, Lee had to hold and make sure it went through.
  17. Hey Lou and Hendry, next time keep the pitcher in the minor leagues for 3 or 4 starts before you bring him back and place your opening day starter in the bullpen.
  18. No, Lilly was hit by a pitch with 2 outs and Theriot grounded out. Another leadoff double for the Pirates. Nice
  19. No hitter still going for Nolan Morton, at least there won't be a perfect game.
  20. He went to his mouth and did not wipe his hand off before putting his pitching hand into his glove so the home plate ump called a ball.
  21. I wouldn't be so sure about that. This is the Cubs, the same team that makes loser starting pitchers look like gods. 17 whole pitches in 2 innings. That is a ridiculous approach against a horrible pitcher.
  22. I know the players have to execute, but I blame Lou for this loss. His ridiculous line up screws this team before they take the field. Would any manager really want Jeff Baker to get more at bats than Soriano when Soriano is on a hot streak? I could handle Nady 7th and Baker was 8th. The fact that both of those guys have a chance at more at bats than a guy with an OBP of almost .500 is criminal.
  23. What the hell is Ramirez doing? He swings at a first pitch breaking ball low and away after a 4 pitch walk. It would be one thing if he was actually trying to hit the ball where it is pitched, but he is pulling everything. Obviously two days off didn't help his thought process in his first at bat.
