  1. Carlos has given up 2ER in his last 22 innings. correction, 26 innings
  2. Yay, Soto. This inning is probably the best chance for the Cubs to score. I won't hold my breath. Poor Z...and the other SPs
  3. Ron, like most fans, is just completely exasperated
  4. I figure that right now Fox's glove can't hurt us more than Soriano's bat but assuming Fonzie is competent when he is put back in the lineup, Fox's glove would hurt us more. It's a stretch but... right. i guess, theoretically speaking, you're saying you'd take the hit defensively right now just for the extra offense if you had to but hopefully that wouldn't be necessary with a "hot" Soriano in the mix. i really don't think Fox at 3B is a possibility anyway based on Lou's comments and use of Fox so far, but it's interesting.
  5. out of curiosity, why are you willing to play Fox at 3B while Soriano is out, but not when he comes back?
  6. this is exactly what i would do, except maybe the batting order. Hoff can also get some time in LF.
  7. I would have to agree. Marshall beats women. Plaxico shot himself and is late to meetings. Guys who beat women also tend to keep beating women. I looked up Marshall on wikipedia out of curiosity -- his list of infractions leads me to believe the best choice of team for him would be the Bengals or the Raiders. agreed. i'm no expert, but it seems guys like this tend to be habitual offenders. i would be very skeptical that someone like that would ever change unless he underwent serious counseling.
  8. is Cotts doing anything different, or has he just been fortunate so far? 9IP, 1ER, 3BB, 8SO, .103 BAA.
  9. i will say for me it's harder to get past domestic battery types of allegations. it's one thing to be a moron, but it's another to be a wife-beater (girlfriend, fiance, whatever), IMO. as much as I'd love to have Marshall's talent on the Bears, i admit i'd have a hard time looking past it.
  10. yeah, that was a good one. i don't really agree with the whole "Lou doesn't care" angle. he doesn't look/act like he doesn't care to me. he looks/acts like a guy who is really just out of ideas. i have a lot of issues with him, but there's really only so much he can do. getting kicked out simply to get kicked out or "fire up your team" is stupid and pointless. it's not like Bradley, Soriano, etc. will start hitting because the manager has a melt down on the field one day.
  11. any word on what he tested positive for? all i've seen is PED. i know most are assuming steroids, and it likely doesn't matter, but i was/am curious.
  12. Ugh Fox up and we still get to see Miles in the lineup. I know I know Fox cant play 3rd, but for a team struggling to find offense, Id say to hell with the D right now with Z on the mound, and a lefty pitching. I really dont like Soriano and Bradley playing with the really wet OF, but I understand why they are in there. i think for the first time i'm ready to advocate Soriano at 2B and Fox in LF just for the possible added offense. i understand it aint happening though
  13. Sammy Sosa was an excellent ball player who is hated on by buffoons who don't appreciate what he did for the Cubs organization. Sammy Sosa was a ball player who's stats were aided by performance enhancing drugs. There are "buffoons" who will still ignore that fact. The fact that he plays for "your team" does not make it acceptable. He is a cheater and a liar, plain and simple. Alll the scorn and hateful comments directed toward McGuire and Palmiero and Giambi can now be applied to everyone's favorite RF. I forgot about the corked bat, also. But that was just a batting practice bat that happened to make it into the game supply. Oh that's right, it doesn't apply here because he played for the Cubs. right, cause there's tons of people on this sight always hating on McGuire Palmiero and Giambi because they used steroids. anyway, not surprising of course, but too bad none the less.
  14. Any chance he gets the call for the @DET/CHW series? He will eligible by then. Lou mentioned the possibility before he was sent down. But something tells me they are going to try and us Bradley as a DH as much as possible to get his legs off the field. my guess is they'd still call up Fox and platoon him with Hoffpauir in RF though.
  15. i'm not advocating this, but if Lou really wants to be creative in trying to spark the offense he could get Fox back up (after his 10 days is up) and platoon Hoff/Fox in LF with Soriano playing 2B and Fontenot at 3B. he did flirt with the idea a while back, though i don't think he'd actually go through with it. i do think that would be more likely than him playing Fox regularly at 3B. he's clearly not comfortable with that.
  16. i guess i don't understand why you still want Soriano hitting 3rd if you're so concerned with his current struggles. i mean, you have the guys who are actually starting to hit (Lee, Fontenot and to a lesser degree, Soto) at the bottom of the order. how is that supposed to spark more offense?
  17. kind of thinking out loud here, but what about Johnny Peralta? he's 27 years old and can play 3B and SS. i'm completely ignorant to what the Indians have in their system who's capable of replacing Peralta. contract-wise he's due $4.6 million in 2010 and has a $7 million club option in 2011. he's been up and down over the last few years. this year he's put up a line of .255/.336/.344 which is pretty bad, but sadly much better than the .218/.310/.307 line the Cubs are getting from 3B the last 30 days (about when Ramirez went down). Peralta has a line of .270/.336/.436 over the last three seasons. i'm not sure what other positions he'd be capable of playing, if any. at 27, he still has a chance for some improvement and if he can get back to what he did in 07 and 08, perhaps he'd be a possible long-term option at SS or 2B. some of the red flags are that his LD% is down quite a bit for some reason (perhaps his elbow injury?) and the fact that he should be in his prime already considering age and experience. there's a chance he wouldn't improve from what he's doing now.
