  1. i have no idea what Brenley's track record is as far as lineups, handling pitchers, etc. but, as a broadcaster, he's obsessed with sacs and especially with hit-and-runs. i get the impression he would hit-and-run every time there is a runner on 1st unless maybe his 3/4 hitters were up.
  2. i'm really hoping that Soriano gets on one of his hot streaks and makes all these threads look absurd. i won't hold my breathe though.
  3. so you're saying the cubs are horrible and still getting lucky. what an uplifting thread.
  4. I've been to Wrigley about 15 times, most of them in the bleachers, and I have seen/heard about 4 or 5 drunk belligerent morons that were probably just there to get drunk. I really don't think there are any more people that go to Wrigley to drink than go anywhere else, but since we sell out most games, there's this ridiculous mythos that gets built up to try to explain it apart from just saying the Cubs have a lot of fans. i've been in the bleachers many, many times as well, but my impression is a little different than yours. there are a pretty fair amount of people there (seemingly) just to drink. obviously it's far worse in the bleachers than in other parts of the park, but the point remains. the only other parks i've been to are great american and busch (II and III), so my experience in other stadiums is limited. i definitely find that wrigley seems to have the highest number of party people. although, i do think it's hilarious that a handful of times in the bleachers i've encountered sox fans who are just there to mock the cubs and cubs fans (not cubs/sox games, mind you) while handing money to my team hand-over-fist by buying the ticket, beer and food.
  5. supposedly Bradley will sit today and tomorrow. allegedly he'll be working on his left-handed hitting.
  6. i thought the best part was that the question was about packing the Cell with fans and Ozzie responds by randomly calling Wrigley a bar. let's not pretend he doesn't have a point about Wrigley being a bar. i can tolerate that though because the more fans the higher the payroll can go.
  7. during Lou's press conference, i got the impression that he was basically making an example out of Milton and saying he wasn't going to let the "tantrums" be common-place anymore. Lou certainly seemed to act like it wasn't a huge issue stating he'd put him in the lineup tomorrow (today). i guess the question is how Milton will react. i don't know exactly what Milton did (or has been doing), but it seems like a bizarre way for Lou to handle it. multiple players have been throwing tantrums this season. have a meeting after the game and tell everyone you aren't going to have it anymore. don't pull the guy in the middle of the game for doing something players have been doing all season. again, maybe Milton did something to cross the line that i don't know about. just seems strange. Soriano can eat it. wtf is he talking about? the guy with the gimpy knee who's hitting .220 with a sub .290 OBP should probably shut his hole and take a look in the mirror.
  8. i don't get that either. once he didn't play 3B when sent down, i figured the cubs had abandoned the idea. then when he comes back up he gets all kinds of time at 3B. he's still one terrible play away from Lou having a knee-jerk "we won't be using Fox at 3B anymore" moment, but I hope he can delay the inevitable.
  9. i'm sorry, but what the hell were people expecting from Hoffpauir exactly? a .100 IsoD? he's been fine for a 4th/5th OF and backup 1B.
  10. Fuku got 4 years, Lee 5, Aramis 4 (with a player opt out), 2 years (and 2 years too many) for Aaron Miles, 3 years for a decrepit Milton Bradley. While those aren't necessarily long in years, they are way too long for the production we are getting out of them with the exception of Aramis and Lee. if people want to lament the production v. pay ratio, fine (i agree), but the Cubs are not saddled with a bunch of long term contracts moving forward. right now they have six contracts on the books in 2011 (assuming Bradley's is vested and Aram's player option) and three in 2012 (assuming Dempster's player option).
  11. anyone here think Geo didn't smoke in the off season before his ROY 2008 season? i hope not, because that would be stupid.
  12. And no young contributors on the horizon. i'm kind of late to this party, but why do people keep lamenting long-term contracts for the Cubs? they have, what, two (Z and Soriano)? maybe Dempster, i guess.
  13. I'm going to go ahead and guarantee Vitters will not go 0-4. but i do believe he will go hitless
  14. thanks guys
  15. updates, please
  16. they've seemingly effectively blocked all access here at work. i'm losing it.
  17. as CCP mentioned, he's got a history of control problems. it really shouldn't be a great shock, and i don't necessarily jump to conclusions about an injury (as much as i would with some other pitchers). hopefully he can find his command again.
  18. i definitely see Freel back with the club. if he's got his legs back (for now), he could actually be a viable option at 3B against LHP while Ramirez is out. the question is whether it will be at the expense of Fox, Blanco or Miles. dear God please let it be Miles.
  19. Did you hear that or are you just making a random guess? Heard that. that's pretty surprising. i really didn't think he'd get any starts at 3B.
  20. there's no doubt that Harden's handled with kid gloves, as he probably should be. add in his tendancy for throwing a lot of pitches and he's not going to give you much more than 6 all that often. it isn't a big deal, i just thought it was kind of odd to throw that into a piece like that. I mean, Wells has gone less than six in 2 of his 7 starts. Marshall went less than six in 3 of his 7 starts, not counting the 5-inning CG rainout. obviously he's not in the rotation anymore so maybe that's moot. anyway, who cares. back to discussing Pedro...
  21. off topic, and not really a big deal, but what's with the cheap shot at Harden? he's only gone less than six innings twice in nine starts. that's hardly a "5-inning pitcher". i guess technically he's averaging less than six innings because of his two bad starts.
  22. i went to the bar and started drinking just before the 8th. i think what i must do the rest of the season is clear. :old_givebeer:
  23. you know better than to give up a run, Z. L for you.
