  1. He tried to field a ball on the ground thinking it was going to bounce into his glove. It didn't bounce nearly high enough and he ran right past it as it continued into LF the run was going to score anyway, but the batter took second on the error.
  2. hahahaha... Pat: "What about the game by Paul Konerko last night?" Ron: "What about it?"
  3. He's a former Rockies utility infielder. We gave up A ball pitcher Al Alburquerque for him. Here's the thread in transactions on the trade. And here's his baseball reference page. Thanks. Wasn't that kind of an unnecessary trade? i assume they see him as a platoon partner for Fontenot who can provide a lot more with the bat than Blanco.
  4. Exactly. Not sure why there's surprise. If ever there was a free swinger, Shawon was it. The Shawon-O-Meter didn't display his OBP. It also rarely had a 3 in the front just like his OBP
  5. jesus, i hate to here oblique. hopefully he can just rest until after the all-star break or something. as much as it would suck to be without him for the STL series, they can't risk him making it worse.
  6. so the Cubs played with their full compliment of position players for all of one game.
  7. © putting it on the line
  8. I would have preferred Zambrano going Sunday rather than today with Samardzija or Hart going today. Depending on how the STL series went, you could have had Zambrano go on four days' rest the day before the ASB or given Z some extended time off with the break. Even if he went on four days rest against STL, the Cubs could have used the extra leeway to give Z an extra day or two off since they'd have flexibility with the rotation. However, that's neither here nor there. maybe i'm not reading this right (haven't had my coffee yet), but the only way Z could pitch on four days rest against STL is if he pitched last night. If we waited until today, four days rest would line him up for Monday.
  9. the bottom line is, when he's on, he's one of their best hitters (and is easily their best during some of his hot streaks). for the most part, i want my best hitters getting the most PA. therefore, i've never really had a problem with Soriano leading off. having said that, he definitely shouldn't be there now and i'm glad he's been moved down.
  10. so i guess Fred still has a perfect record when in attendance. we should probably consider taking up a collection for him to attend the rest of this season's games (home and road) at some point.
  11. there aren't many things i hate more than a 1st inning sac bunt. then Lee hits the HR and i just start wondering if they not only gave up an out, but possibly a run. it's not a certainty, of course, but it's annoying.
  12. Bruce Miles' article claimed Ramirez will bat 4th. I'm guessing we'll see this for awhile: Fukudome/Johnson Theriot Lee Ramirez Bradley Soriano Soto Fontenot/Baker
  13. Not sure why people see Blanco as a possibility to be sent down (thru waivers). Isn't he the only back-up SS on the roster right now? I guess Fontenot could play in an emergency, but I can't see Blanco being removed at this point. I really hope Lou doesn't use Saturday's game as an excuse to stick with 12 pitchers. Ugh.
  14. Send down Hart or Shark and Fuld and give Patton back to COL. Just go with 11 pitchers until the all-star break and then re-examine if necessary. It's seven games with an off-day in the middle. What's the worst that can happen?
  15. yeah, i typically don't get too worked up over one particular series or stretch of games, but this stretch of games leading into the all-star break has me antsy as hell. i'm really begging this team to give me a reason to care about the second half. series wins against MIL and STL would do it.
  16. Left elbow injury. well then... thanks
  17. Why would the Rockies want Freel? I have no idea of what the Rockies need but if they needed a guy like Freel why not just keep Baker? I do believe Freel will be DFA as soon as Miles comes back. I think he means Freel will be cut to make room on the roster for Baker. yes
  18. i have no hopes for anything better than a split, but oh man if they could pick a time to get going this would be it...
  19. also fox is playing adequately as a fill-in right now at 3B, which may be a good reason to hold Ramirez back a little longer. i don't have a problem with him coming back monday if there isn't a higher risk for him to play now and/or if another week off really isn't going to make a difference.
  20. so did Cott's get taken out and shot after his dreadful June 24 appearance? looks like he hasn't pitched since (after a good run leading up to that).
  21. but would another week or two change that? not saying it wouldn't, i really don't know.
  22. it almost has to be Freel, if they're putting Baker on the roster. Freel has become (even more) expendible with Fox holding his own at 3B and Fuld capable of playing CF. He pretty much serves no purpose at all if Baker is added. Same can be said for Miles of course, but like goony said, he's not even on the roster right now.
