  1. i wouldn't be against letting Fox start the day game tomorrow, i just don't think he should be back there as the regular starter.
  2. that was pretty funny. that was the first time i've ever seen a catcher have to throw to first on a called strike three. hahaha Wasn't that actually called a swing by the home plate ump? maybe. i didn't think it was but then Len or Bob asked if it was and didn't seem sure.
  3. somewhat off topic, but i'm excited to see what this lineup could do when Soto gets back if Soriano, Ramirez and Lee keep hitting also.
  4. that was pretty funny. that was the first time i've ever seen a catcher have to throw to first on a called strike three. hahaha
  5. Hoffpauirs the one who should be sent down. I know, hes our lefty power that gets ahold of 1 once in a blue moon between awkword looking strikeouts, but he has options and other than being lefty, he serves the same purpose as Fox, maybe a bit better defensively but a lot worse offensively. The problem is, who is this mythical replacement catcher who can hit? I guess we could bring up Robinson and hope for lightening in a bottle until Soto returns, but his AAA numbers dont look like theyd traslate into big league succes. I guess we could just trade for Greg Zaun or something of the like. dude, i don't mean to be a jerk, but didn't you want Hoffpauir starting over Derrek Lee like six weeks ago? i don't think Fox should be catching regularly. a few innings here or there or maye a start is okay.
  6. teams are typically going to have to over-pay for "elite" type players. it's the absurd contracts given out to the middle relievers, back-up catchers and end of the bench guys that drive me insane when equal or similar production can typically be found in the system. those contracts add up and end up costing the team chances at signing (or re-signing) those elite players.
  7. oh god i would love for this to happen
  8. He's been better than Kerry Wood. (You're still the man, Kerry)
  9. Keep it up, Kevin. Having Hart and Wells in the rotation certainly isn't something I would have looked forward to coming into the season, but both have provided some much needed help.
  10. We were one run from winning a series in Philly against a scorching hot Phillie team. With our pitching I'll take our chances. "we" scored 2 runs in 22 innings against mediocre pitching (missing their best starter) before getting to face Jamie Moyer. color me impressed. i don't dispute that pitching isn't the problem and is the only reason the Cubs are close. i just don't think it's enough.
  11. i really just can't get excited. i mean the playoffs are certainly very much a crap-shoot, but this team is just so mediocre (at best) offensively and seemingly prone to mistakes (fielding, baserunning, etc) that its hard for me to even consider that they'd have a chance to win a series against a team like LA or PHI if they somehow got into the playoffs.
  12. Walk years boosts are a myth. like Larry Bird or Colorado solid
  13. as enjoyable as it was to get a sweep (and gain ground on everyone in the division), the way this season has gone i half expect them to turn around and get stomped by the Phillies. it sure would be nice if they didn't.
  14. that may be, but history certainly suggests that it might.
  15. Either that or Lilly wanted to throw a side session in between starts (which would have been the All-Star game if he had pitched) and since he would have only thrown that side session yesterday he can't pitch tonight. Nobody else is on correct rest so that forces the Cubs to pitch Harden. Yeah, not knowing what Lilly's schedule was like surrounding the AS game, i'm trying not to get too upset about it, even though I'm pretty dissapointed.
  16. Playing around with this because I'm bored. With the off-days they have coming up, they can give Harden extra rest for the next few starts while still giving everyone else (at least) normal rest: 7/16: Lilly 7/17: Z 7/18: Harden (7 days) 7/19: Hart 7/20: Wells 7/21: Lilly 7/22: Z 7/23: off day 7/24: Hart 7/25: Harden (6 days) 7/26: Wells 7/27: Lilly 7/28: Z 7/29: Hart 7/30: off 7/31: Wells 8/1: Harden (6 days) 8/2: Lilly 8/3: Z 8/4: Hart/Dempster 8/5: Wells 8/6: off 8/7: Harden (5 days) or Lilly on normal rest 8/8: Harden (6 days) or Lilly (5 days) After that they have a long stretch of games with out a day off that make it more difficult. Anyway, they could afford to give Harden a lot of extra rest between his next four starts if they really want to. The downside of course is that nobody else gets any extra rest.
  17. Well Lilly didn't pitch last night so he'd be available for Thursday. Maybe something like this: Lilly (4 days rest) Harden (6 days) Zambrano (5 days) Hart Wells (7 days) Went with this because when Hart was optioned, it was opined that he'd be back up to start the 19th vs. Washington. Went with Harden on Friday instead of Thursday to get him the extra rest, but I'm sure he'll still start Thursday. My guess is the Cubs will swap Lilly and Harden.
  18. 2008: 4 days: 2.53 5 days: 1.24 6+ days: 2.47 career: 4: 3.77 5: 3.61 6+: 2.78

  20. so they expect Hill to catch both games on Sunday?
  21. does she have a hook nose? i don't remember.
  22. huh? May 1 through last night, he was playing at a 50 HR pace. at any rate, great hitters like Kinsler, Youkilis, Vic Martinez have had a really rough go of it during that timeframe and you wouldn't think much of it. and your main culprit for Jones' slump is .205 BABIP. those guys didn't go .205/.297/.369 over the two years before this one
  23. 2009: $5 million, 2010: $9 million, 2011: $12 million. Is he worth keeping with all those jumps in pay? I suppose one could say Hendry is a fool for spreading the money like that, but that's another story. i think abuck is wondering how you're going to just "dump" his salary.
  24. May 1 until last night: .211/.283/.455 oof
  25. go ahead and lose, losers. but no, really, i'll be hanging out with my buddy who is a huge cardinals fan this weekend and i really don't want to get grief all weekend. sooooo...win for me? or don't. whatever.
