  1. one Bears two Hoosiers (only one that I actually have memory of) three Pistons zero Cubs zero Hawks pretty pathetic
  2. indeed. btw, where did you find those numbers? I think they come from fangraphs.com Yep thanks
  3. indeed. btw, where did you find those numbers?
  4. do they still sell SRO tickets for $15 on gameday? that's always an option.
  5. Soriano has been the same player his entire career. I don't see why you think pitchers all of the sudden figured him out in his 11th season.
  6. Lee has been hot for a while now. People should really stop including him in the list of problem children. Soriano is a huge problem right now, compounded by the fact that he's hitting 1st. Fontenot seems to be coming around (296/354/437 in the last 28 days) and Bradley and Soto have shown some improvement lately. Soto is one of the few guys I'm hopeful that Von Joshua will be able to help, as he's done in the past. I guess don't have an answer to the original question. Guys like Soriano and Bradley aren't going to be outright benched unless they are injured (which may be likely for both). They're going to have to hope these guys come around. The only spot where I think they can realistically add to the offense is through a platoon partner for Fontenot (preferably someone who can play 3B as well).
  7. my feelings are similar to many already posted. i hate to pin the 2009 struggles on Perry after so much success in the second half of 2007 and all of 2008, offensively. having said that, Von Joshua is certainly worthy of the post and i guess i'm happy for him to have the chance, even though my first choice would be to keep him in the minors working with the guys coming up through the system. interestingly enough the cubs are seeing 3.9 P/PA in 2009 v. 3.88 in 2008 (thanks, Fred). that's certainly not the end-all/be-all. just thought it was worth noting. purely anecdotal (i.e. my eyes may be lying to me) it seems a few guys have been less aggressive in the zone this year. Soto and Fontenot in particular come to mind as guys watching very good pitches go down the middle of the plate. at some point i start to wonder if they're just taking pitches for the sake of taking pitches. or, maybe they just haven't been seeing the ball as well as they'd like. fwiw: fontenot is seeing 4.21 P/PA v. 3.99 in 2008 soto is seeing 4.14 v. 3.98 in 2008
  8. so miles sucks at that too. good.
  9. they just said on the radio pre-game that Freel "remains on the DL".
  10. I assume Scales is gone. Hopefully Freel can start hitting against LHP like he's done in the past.
  11. FWIW, Cubs bullpen the last 28 days: Guzman: 10 IP; 1.10 WHIP; .206 BAA; .495 OPSA; 4 BB; 7 K Ascanio: 8.2 IP; 1.5 WHIP; .273 BAA; .718 OPSA; 4 BB; 9 K Gregg: 11 IP; 1.455 WHIP; .271 BAA; .761 OPSA; 3 BB; 10 K Heilman: 10.1; IP; 1.645 WHIP; .275 BAA; .787 OPSA; 6 BB; 8K Patton: who cares Marmol: 12 IP; 1.082 WHIP; .054 BAA; .402 OPSA; 11 BB; 11 K Waddell: 1.1 IP; .750 WHIP; .200 BAA; .400 OPSA; 0 BB; 2K I didn't use Marshall because he's been going back and forth and I was too lazy to break down his RP numbers.
  12. We dont even have a legitimate hit...Dempster's had to be luck and Fontenot's hit was a bloop single that could have been caught. Can I change your name to ihatethecubsoffense? i like ihatethecubsoffenseandpujols too many characters?
  13. if it please the court, i'd like to have this statement stricken from the record.
  14. I wouldn't be opposed to this. I just don't know who that long-term answer is. I really don't see them, whoever they are, coming over in a deadline deal. Yeah, as appealing as this idea is, I just have a hard time coming up with any legitimate options. I just can't imagine it happening.
  15. i tend to agree with CCP. the only legitimate option, in my mind, would be to find someone capable of hitting LHP well as part of a 2B platoon with Fontenot. ideally someone who can also play a legitimate 3B while Ramirez is out and/or needs rest after coming back. honestly, i think we're just going to end up hoping that Freel or Miles become that guy. Freel has been excellent against LHP in the past (save for a bizarre 2007). ideally, Freel comes back and destroys LHP and Blanco replaces Miles as the back-up SS (not happening, i know).
  16. that is a fantastic game thread start. and to think, when i saw the first few pictures i thought, "this crap again? it's really not funny anymore." how wrong i was. Cubs win a laugher.
  17. Yeah, that's something I didn't look at close enough. They don't play a road interleague game until June 23, so Fox could be recalled for that if it looks like they'll be facing some LHP.
  18. yeah, this is what i don't get. with interleague coming up, Fox was the obvious choice to stay and at least DH against LHP next week. Scales is worthless at this point, but my guess is they chose to keep him because he can play 3B (while they believe Fox can't). eta: wait, Miles can play 3B too. i shouldn't post before I drink my coffee.
  19. that part won't last But that's just icing, right? Miles can't hit and his defense is worse than Blanco's. If 2 middle infielders can't hit, might as well take the great defensive player. this. having said that, Miles isn't getting DFA, IMO. they didn't give him a two year deal just so they could give up on him 2 months into the season.
  20. i'm all for DFA Miles. however, if people are going to make suggestions like bringing in Duhram, Atkins and Shea Hillenbrand to play 3B, they might as well just keep Freel instead.
  21. you're entitled to your opinion, of course, but you are certainly seperating different degrees of cheating. willing to overlook some (greenies) and not others (steroids). i don't even know what this means.
  22. fine with cheating to a point eh? interestingly enough, i don't remember typing those words so, that proves a point how exactly? you certainly seem to be indicating that you're willing to overlook certain types of cheating because you think they don't provide as much of an advantage, no? greenies = HR record and HOF steroids = Rot in hell
  23. fine with cheating to a point eh? interestingly enough, i don't remember typing those words
  24. Fergie Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, etc... losers
