  1. the question is going to be how many runs Dempster gives up.
  2. Well... they'd better double check their work, no? ETA: All seriousness aside..... somehow, I had Dennys Reyes of the Cardinals in my database as a right hander.... so that explains that error. Thanx, I owe ya one !! no, i think we all you a lot for all your stats. thanks again.
  3. Fred, I only noticed this because I was just looking it up earlier, but baseball-reference has Lee with one more AB/PA than you do vs. LHP. I assume they are wrong, ;) but I thought I'd let you know.
  4. Reed loses his tenuous grip on the clean-up spot.
  5. will bradley definitely play day-after-night game? Lee has had a 1.267 OPS in six PA against LHP so far this year [/clinging].
  6. Yeah, get Fox up. Even if you don't start him at third he can get plenty of PH oppurtunities. They need to take advantage of his hot hand/bat.
  7. that's pretty much what i took from that list as well. i'd take Edmonds over Gathright in a nano-second. The list of guys I wouldnt take over Gathright in a nano-second is very short. Still the only way they would take on Edmonds is if Bradley were to miss significant time or Kosuke were to have another summer collapse. Otherwise, your left juggling playing time between 3 quality lefty outfielders, and Reed Johnsons left rotting away at the end of the bench aside from the occasional pinch hit opprtunity against a loogy or defensive subbing, and while I dont feel that Reed is every day starter on a contending team material, hes too good to be a 5th outfielder. If they wanted to get real creative, they have some options. With Ramirez out (and Fontenot the only option at 3B), slide Soriano to 2B and platoon Reed/Edmonds in LF. You're basically replacing Miles' bat with Reed/Edmonds. That's pretty far fetched and obviously wouldn't happen. Just thinking outside the box, I guess.

  9. Lou wants to do something to shake things up and really Hill is his only option. I assume (hope) Hendry is frantically trying to find an adequate backup 3B, but they don't really have anyone to turn to at their disposal.
  10. Doesn't Lilly have a history of allowing SBs? I may be mistaken on that. Regardless of Soto's struggles with the bat early, I don't think more K. Hill is the remedy for a team having trouble scoring runs. I hope/assume this is just one of Lou's post-game over reactions that will last about a day or two.
  11. it simply boggles the mind that either Lou or Theriot can think it's a good idea to attempt a steal right now.
  12. he got booed after his final at-bat in the 9th.
  13. hopefully the little road trip is coming at a good time for him and he'll be hitting when they get back into town.
  14. It might not matter what you, personally, give him. After today he's got 1 week before he returns to Wrigley. It could get really ugly in a hurry. and it could just as easily be forgotten with one good week. Sure, it could. But it's going to take one big week to get the boo birds off his back. And I don't think it takes a lot of boo birds to get into Milton's head. well, i don't doubt that morons will boo him mercilessly. that's absurd though. the guy has had 30 PAs. i highly doubt the guy who put .947 and .999 OPS the last two years suddenly forgot how to hit.

  16. I still love you, Milton.
  17. I honestly could care less about Vizcaino (other than the fact that the Cubs keep releasing guys with sizeable contracts). What I don't like about it is calling up Samardzija. Are they going to make him a starter or aren't they? I don't see any indication that he's done anything in his two starts in Iowa to make them think he can't handle it. Doesn't it make the most sense to keep him there so he can stay stretched out and inserted into the starting rotation once the inevitable injury occurs to a SP?
  18. I think they originally envisioned Gathright to fill the role that Pie has in recent years - defensive replacement and pinch runner. That said, he's obviously not doing it right now. Agreed, which is why many people were questioning bringing in Gathright in the first place (thinking they should just let Pie do that job). It's early. Maybe Lou's still trying to find out what role Joey has. I suppose they don't really need to rush to a decision at this point. Gathright seems like the kind of guy you'd love to have on a playoff roster as a pinch runner, but really has little to no use during the regular season.
  19. At this point? How about since he's been a Cub. I always said that if a situation arises where a small vehicle might impede a runner between two of the bases, Gathright might be a good guy to have around. Other than that......... I won't disagree with that. I guess I meant more in the eyes of management. I assume (as TT noted) they saw him as a defensive replacement when they picked him up. But if he's not going to be used even in that capacity now (for example, he wasn't last night), then I'm not sure how they can justify keeping him around. I mean, he's not even getting onto the field while they are working with a short bench because of Bradley. If Gathright isn't on the 25 for defensive purposes, just get rid of him and bring up Fox. If you have an emergency in the OF Miles can fill in until Fuld gets called up.
