  1. good news. one less thing to worry about.
  2. they don't have anyone else to play PG, basically. Jones is the other "primary" PG and he's still out because of the concusion. they literally just don't have the bodies. additionally, Moore is about the only person who will continually push the ball up-court which I'm guessing gets him some points with Crean. lastly, part of me sometimes wonders if Crean is playing to the fanbase a bit. let's not pretend there aren't several IU fans out there eating this stuff up. they love seeing the little white guy run around and dive on the ground and take charges and give up his body. people like my dad, for instance, just absolutely love that stuff and can gloss over how terrible he is because, "hey, what do you expect? he's just a walk-on." what do i expect? i expect to not have to rely on walk-ons like Ryan Tapek, Erik Suhr and Daniel Moore to play major minutes for a (formerly) top-notch basketball program (this year excluded).
  3. this is often true, unfortunately. although calling some of these guys mediocre is an overstatement. they might reach mediocrity on their best day. eta: when i say it's true i mean that many fans say that, not that white guys actually "play the right way".
  4. and to compare IU's situation to St. Augustine's or Texas Southern's is a mockery.
  5. what a joke. edit: what CCP said.
  6. wtg, Len. good news.
  7. no way. this would be beyond insane. not even Hendry is that dumb. i refuse to believe it.
  8. you can find out in the minors forum, but i think Rich has made a couple of (poor) appearences out of the bullpen. i'm really shocked that Diamond Mind hasn't bumped this thread lately. ETA: three appearances (11/28, 11/30 and 12/2)
  9. if it makes you feel any better, the post-season is probably out of reach the next two years anyway (the NCAA, at least).
  10. And don't forget, while the Bears have lost to every NFC South team this year, they've had a late lead against every one of them and New Orleans is the most flawed of those teams. Is there any reason why Brees won't torch Vasher/Tillman as he did the better GB corners? He played that game in a dome and he'll play the Bears at night outdoors in Chicago during December. Plus, if Tommie Harris is awake that week he could make a huge difference. the saints have done a good job of protecting brees though. if the bears don't get pressure, they'll get torched.
  11. You don't think Indiana got hit hard? well, technically they hit themselves with the self-imposed restrictions on recruiting and scholarships. the ncaa basically said that was good enough (plus 3 years probation). i believe those restrictions are still in effect on Crean until next summer or something. The self-imposed scholarship thing was a joke. Oh you've got 13 scholarships to fill in one year and you're only going to allow yourself to fill 12? IU's self-imposed restrictions were worthless. ok. there are also the restrictions on phone calls and off-campus visits (prohibited entirely, i believe), but i digress.

  13. kind of a tough spot for Hendry with Dempster. not ideal but i don't think the deal is terrible. he has a chance to be pretty good if he can be even close to what he did last year for a few more years. it's a risk, but not a crazy one.
  14. i think that's fair, but as i said top half of the big ten and making the ncaa tourney are what i'm hoping for. i certainly don't think it's a given and almost everything will have to go well for them to get there.
  15. i'm hoping for a top half of the big ten finish and possibly an NCAA tourney bid for the Hoosiers next year. i think that would be a huge success. season officially kicks off tonight. it's going to be an ugly season, but i'm still looking forward to watching them play to see what Crean does with the "players" he has.
  16. as much as i hate this, it's the right move. you can say wasting money on people like Marquis put the Cubs in this spot (and you'd be right), but i don't think you can compound one mistake by making another. the bottom line is giving Wood the kind of money he will seek and deserve would likely prohibit the team from making necessary upgrades elsewhere. if the Cubs gave a 3/30 or so to a reliever that is going to be 32 in June with a significant injury history, this place would explode (rightfully so). i'm very sad to see Kerry go though.
  17. since i'm not mentally unstable, i pretty much still wear the same clothes i did before which means the Cubs hat is still in the rotation.
  18. simple question: moving forward, who is the better option, Santan Moss or Lee Evans? i'm trading for one but i'm having some trouble deciding which i prefer. Moss gets more targets and more receptions (and touchdowns, so far). Evans has the edge in yards and has a great schedule coming up.
  19. probably the toughest match-up so far. bad timing for Rex to be making his first start of the season. Forte will be asked (necessarily) to carry the load for a while and that's likely to be extremely difficult against the Titans defense. if we assume Orton is out four weeks, i'd like to see 2-2 over that stretch with at least one of those wins coming in the division (Packers and/or Vikings).
  20. i really can't believe that there are people that think the Cubs would be better by replacing Lee with Hoffpauir. i hope i'm just reading that wrong. i'm certainly not opposed to trading Lee, but people are expecting way too much from the Hoff, IMO.
  21. if Fukudome were moved to CF and Roberts were at 2B, I could live with Derosa "full-time" in RF. that's partially because i expect Fukudome to be better (offensively) than he was this year.
  22. yes...thank you jeebus.
  23. I think you may be overstating Wood's (or any player's) affect off the baseball field on the team's performance. What teams did you play for in the majors? "Wade" = Wade Boggs.
  24. the game wasn't on here so i had to follow on-line, but this was a big point made on the post-game show on comcast. they seemed to imply that the offense was much better when Kyle was calling plays at the line and certainly implied, without outright saying, that he called better plays than Turner. of course this wouldn't surprise me, but i'd like to hear everyone's opinion on that.
