  1. my softball game tonight got cancelled. i think i'll settle in for watching this game and doing some power drinking tonight.
  2. this. i'd probably be more concerned with Lee and Fukudome if they were having trouble scoring. as of now i'm not, though i might move Lee out of the 3-hole at this point. lou's bullpen usage concern's me a little, but not really if/when they reach the playoffs. there are enough days off in the playoffs for it not to be a concern.
  3. the only thing i dislike more than a sac bunt (with a few exceptions) is watching someone fail at a sac bunt. come on... another one of my biggest pet peeves is bringing in the infield early in the game. i'll never understand why you want to make it harder for your team to get an out. i can see if it's the tying or go ahead run late in the game but doing it in the first six inning or so seems completely insane to me. purely from an observational standpoint, it seems like it rarely works.
  4. I told my wife month's ago that were weren't taking our anniversary trip on our anniversary. She understood. i was pretty shocked when my wife told me to pay "whatever it takes" to get a WS ticket if it's at wrigley. then she told me to take a buddy who is a huge fan instead of her. this is either a) a trick; b) her way of trying to jinx it; or c) her way of setting herself up for something she really wants that i don't want to buy. "c" is my early favorite.
  5. Maybe he's just frustrated, but he sounded annoyed to me. He also sounds like someone that is hesitant to listen to advice and coaching. that seems like a leap. i'd like to know what the question was before i jump to that conclusion. if the question was something along the lines of, "Why hasn't the hitting coach been able to help you correct things?" then it reads like he's defending his coach.
  6. it seems like he's really expanding his zone compared to earlier in the season. count me in the camp that thinks he just needs some time to work through everything and adjust. i like giving him the occasional day off vs. a LHP, but i wouldn't "bench" him.
  7. no. only if you're getting paid $7+ million and/or there is a better in-house option available (as has been said approximately 1 billion times in this thread).
  8. i can see Hendry passing, though i wouldn't. he probably sees Edmonds' numbers with the Cubs and feels like they are fine where they are particularly considering Giles can't play CF. Edmonds' numbers with the Cubs are actually better than Giles' numbers this year.
  9. As Raisin mentioned, I always felt like his control was what was leading him to stuggle as a starter (at the MLB level), not his lack of pitches.
  10. the soriano HR is up on gameday now if people want to see Backe's reaction.
  11. if Lou refuses to use Eyre, he pretty much forces Hendry's hand here. he'll have to be traded or DFA. the other sensible option would be to send Marshall down to stretch out as a starter if needed. i don't see that happening at this point because a) he's been used as a piggyback for Harden a few times and; b) the other potential long-man (Gaudin) is being used as a set-up man right now.
  12. yeah, i don't see the advantage of shutting him down. he probably needs to work through this regardless of whether its physical or mental. really depressing though. i guess i finally have to let go of that last little shred of hope that he'd slide into Marquis' spot.
  13. He went back out in the 8th cause he didn't have a single high-stress inning and was sailing along with little effort. ok. 118 wouldn't concern me if he hadn't already had problems this year. factor in that he had 125 last time and i thought it was concerning, though like i said, i didn't actually see the game. as goony pointed out, it could be expected with the bullpen use lately, but i would think Eyre could have been used.
  14. Don't usually do this, so i hope it's cool, but i have six bleacher seats for the 8/30 game against the Phillies. Game is at 2:55 (central). I paid $303.54 for the six tickets and that's all I'd want for them. i thought i'd try to get rid of them here first. They are the print at home tickets so I'll email them to the buyer. Reply or PM if you're interested. If nobody is interested I'll just put them on ebay or something.
  15. Serious injury aside, how cool would THAT have been though?? :) i'd prolly only ask for season tickets or something to compensate me for my injuries.
  16. Zambrano is the man. Also, he almost ran over me in his car after Saturday's game. Thank you for sparing me, great one.
  17. 118 pitches? i didn't see the game so maybe i'm missing something, but why send him out for the 8th? particularly after the high count last game (125?).
  18. Seriously, about a month ago Samardzija was a guy who many people thought probably didn't even deserve his promotion to AAA. Now he's K-Rod? Fantastic. Some people are setting themselves up for some serious disapointment, namely Lou. I hope I'm wrong, of course.
  19. i think they pick up a bullpen arm.
  20. welcome, CubbieGager. hopefully Teddy is on his game tonight.
  21. he's said before that he's not interested in cashing in on a "tragic" moment in Cubs' history. this is consistant with that. just let the guy move on.
  22. i don't like Harden missing Milwaukee, but the second part of what you've said here is the key. they need to add someone to the pen. calling up Samardzija to start doesn't do that [/Mr. Obvious].
  23. then he shouldn't be promoted. If you're going to burn an option on him, at least see what he's made of Samardzija's option was burned back in March. que? when he was added to the 40-man, i believe.
  24. please, no. what's the point of him taking Wood's spot if he's not going to pitch out of the pen? also, on the selfish side, i'll be at the game and would rather see Harden.
