  1. if they aren't going to call up Murton when the guy at his position is injured (twice now), they need to just trade him (which JH may be trying to do, I guess). it's a complete waste at this point.
  2. I agree with this, but I don't think Rich Hill being the centerpiece of a trade for a starter like C.C. Sabathia is a buying low on Rich Hill. Is Rich Hill at his best better than C.C. Sabathia? That is assuming that you can coaching him to being his best because this is starting look more and more like the old Rich Hill. Thought I should add that I like Rich Hill, and am hoping that he finds his mechanics because we could really use Rich Hill from last year to fill out the rotation. If you have both Rich Hill and Murton in a deal (with some others) they might be interested. The Indians have David Dellucci and Franklin Gutierrez getting most of ABs in the corner OF. I don't really know anything about who they have in the minors though.
  3. I'll put this here since there has been some mention of Bradley as a possible pick-up: Bradley goes after Royals' analyst I've been a fan of going after Bradley for a long time. My guess though is that the Cubs won't be interested in him because of his temper issues.
  4. Paging Rob for today's game thread... hope you're not too sick (that was you, right?).
  5. how has wrigley23 not come here and called Soriano a baby yet? i'm so sick of the Cubs treating this guy with kid gloves. ohhhhhhhhhh...poor guy broke his fragile little hand so he has to sit out for six weeks like a selfish baby.
  6. they've played one game without him...
  7. calling up Hoffpauir and Murton seems like the obvious choice, but they'll probably call up Patterson again. the two best option are probably the Murtonot (Murton LF, Derosa 2B against lefties with Derosa in LF, Fontenot at 2B against righties) suggestion, or just a strict platoon in LF betweem Murton and Hoffpauir.
  8. it's just so hard to believe though. it's not like his success was a flash in the pants or seemed flukish in any way. he had sustained success for over a year and a half in MLB (after a couple years of dominance in AAA). i know he had control problems earlier on in his professional career, but this is really just hard to fathom.
  9. No, the Cubs don't. They have an Ankiel in Iowa whose potential may yield number 2. Not even close to the same thing. thank you...at least i am not the only one who feels this way... don't get me wrong...i like rich hill...but all we truly have seen from him are flashes of promise...nothing sustained... That's just plain old wrong. Nothing sustained? Absurd. seriously. he was probably the Cubs' best pitcher for about a year and a half.
  10. Lou's done a reasonable job aside from the bullpen usage. That's the only thing that's really gotten to me. Some minor issues I've had are getting rest for Soto and Theriot. The Theriot thing is especially curious because the convinient excuse last year was that he broke down. Cedeno was red hot for a while and still couldn't sniff a spot at SS most of the time. They've (Lou and/or Hendry) specifically mentioned that Derosa is a candidate for "wearing down" when playing everyday. Between SS and 2B, Cedeno should be able to get 2-3 starts every week. I also would have liked to see Pie get more of a chance to start the season. My biggest concern (as with any manager) coming into Lou's tenure was SP use/abuse. I've been relatively pleased in that regard despite the (IMO) poor handling of the Hill situation and Trachsel last year. Lineup construction doesn't really get to me too much becuase I just don't think it matters much unless you're putting terrible hitters (Neifi, Macias, etc.) at the top of the order.
  11. That might be two things Lou and Hendry might not like then! I suppose Cotts could be that guy (long relief) as well. even if it meant Lieber was there in place of Wuertz, it would still be doable. i don't think TT or anyone is under the delusion that this is going to happen, it's just an interesting concept.
  12. I admit I do like Lieber as the long man, especially if a lefty starts the game. With those 6 guys, you don't have a long guy unless you do some interesting moves. if you feel like you need to have a long-man, you could stick Lieber in Cotts' spot. i don't think they need two lefties anyway.
  13. i think its very intriguing since (as you pointed out) Marshall, Dempster and Gallagher are all three guys who could consievably benefit a great deal from a lighter work load in the short term. So your "starters" now become: Zambrano Lilly Hill Dempster Marshall Gallagher That's six pitchers and still leaves for six other relievers which I think is plenty with this type of set-up becuase the bullpen isn't likely to be needed much if at all the day that the short-starters go. Let's say you have this in the bullpen: Wood Marmol Howry Eyre Cotts Wuertz I think that's enough if you consider (again) that they can probably be rested the day that Dempster/Marshall/Gallagher pitch, save for may one inning or so. My initial thought is it sounds like a cool concept, though as you said it would never happen.
  14. i'll say Derosa in RF with Cedeno at 2B, since Ledezma is a lefty.
  15. i didn't like it. having said that, Lou hasn't made a habit of doing this and he did say he would "cut short" Zambrano's next few starts because of it. if that's the case, i'm not going to get upset over it. i just don't want to see 120+ pitches become the norm, obviously.
  16. i didn't like the signing at all because of the contract, but he's absolutely been worth every bit of it.
  17. for some reason i took pleasure in listening to sutcliff digging into edmonds last night. everyone can see he's done except Lou and Hendry.
  18. the hendry quote is idiotic. we're not playing jacks? tell that to Marquis and Edmonds.
  19. If they did do that (which I don't think they will), I'm guessing they would stick Fukudome in CF against RHP with Hoff in LF. Against LHP they'd have Fukudome in LF and Johnson in CF.
  20. II or III depending on mood, but i voted for II.
  21. When did they start working with him? April 17? By your numbers, he hit .270 with a .325 OBP after they started working with him. I'd say that's improvement from his number pre April 17, no?
  22. i wasn't really trying to argue with you. i just didn't get the statement you made. Pie never started getting more at-bats after Lou (and Keller) worked with him. additionally, he actually started getting better results in the few at-bats he did get after that.
