  1. Lou said the same thing about Pie when he was struggling - they worked with him, then got him more AB's & he didn't produce. The leash was very short with Pie, and I guarantee you it will be just as short with Edmonds. Hopefully soon Pie will (and should) be back up, as I would prefer to let him adjust at the major league level getting AB's everyday. The problem is that he WON'T be getting AB's everyday, it'll be a platoon with Johnson. So, is a Johnson platoon beneficial to Pie? HUH?!?! I'm pretty sure he didn't get more AB's after they worked with him and I'm pretty sure he did actually startto produce after that too. More or less the opposite of what you said.
  2. as Raw alluded to, i think most of this depends on Rich Hill. if he can put it back together, and i don't see any reason why he won't, then I think the Cubs can/will stick with what thay have in the rotation. if Lilly or Dempster completely fall apart before July 30, maybe that changes. if they did make a move, my top targets (of who I think is available) would be Burnett and Cain.
  3. Huh? What game thread did I stumble into? WTF what happened to Briggs? he's in the booth with Pat and Ron.
  4. ](*,) Good point. In response, I say =D> =P~ :glare:  :good: :-# 8-) :o  :good:  :o  :| :-s  :beg: :clapping: :yahoo:  :-# #-o :-({|= [-X  :pig: [-X  ;) :flame: :flame: :yahoo: :o okay... sorry, but i've just made the argument so many times that i can't do it anymore. long story short, playing pie does not mean you're only "looking toward the future".
  5. what he said how do you suggest freeing ronny? I think I'd start Ronny at SS today. He and Derosa both have great numbers against Gorzelanny.
  6. or in the starting rotation... :pig:
  7. this is probably my biggest concern at this point. it will be interesting to see if how he's holding up in August, September and possibly October. i don't have time to look up his numbers right now, but it seems like he's cut down drastically on the walks since the last time he was a starter. like i said though, that may just be my (incorrect) impression since i haven't pulled up the numbers. EDIT: and if i'd read the entire thread before posting i would have seen that his bb's are in fact not down.
  8. he's been great so far. i was very much against it.
  9. cedeno has 6 ab's in the last 7 games? jeez...
  10. i haven't stopped drinking since the signing (except for a little sleep, i guess). thanks, Jim(s)!!
  11. i made my hatred of this move known yesterday. now that it happened, i guess i'll just have to hope they've found lightning in a bottle. i just don't see it. sigh...
  12. same here. first time i've ever been glad a game is on WCIU. i wouldn't be able to tolerate that.
  13. What if he does both? No because then his legend will live on forever. if he "helps us" win a world series (depending on what that means) they can put a freaking statue of him in front of Wrigley and rename a street after him. until then, damn him and his half-shirts.
  14. i hope he does. i think the more likely scenario though is he'll put up about a .640 OPS with terrible defense and people will use that as proof that he's better than Felix Pie because Pie's OPS was lower than that when "he had his chance". also, the diving in the outfield will make guys like Paul Sullivan fall in love with him.
  15. Pie was showing he can hit righties? A .637 OPS (with a .351 BABIP no less) has you excited? no, but a .533 OPS from a 38 year old whose been declining for four years sure does.
  16. Actually, DeRosa had already been removed on a double switch and Ward batted for Wuertz. I would have liked the 9th to go as follows, not that it mattered: Cedeno (PH for Wuertz) Ward (PH for Johnson) Fontenot (already in game due to double switch) you're right. i'd forgotten about that. still not sure why Johnson was facing the RHP in that situation though.
  17. was anyone else kind of annoyed that Ward was used to pinch-hit for Derosa last night instead of Johnson against the RHP? not a big deal, but it didn't make sense to me.
  18. yes, i also have a big problem with this. of course there is downside. significant downside. they are (going to be) further delaying Pie's development unnecessarily. i'll say it again (and probably again later), there is absolutely no better time than now for Pie to be out there getting a chance to adjust.
  19. because there is seemingly nothing left for Pie to prove or accomplish in Iowa. he dominated there for two years and still struggled when given (sporadic) time with the Cubs. he needs to be given time to adjust to MLB pitching. going back down and demolishing the PCL pitchers won't accomplish anything except unnecessarily delaying his development even further. they are winning and scoring runs with almost no production in CF against RHP. there is literally no better time for them to stick with Felix and let him take his lumps and adjust. they can afford it right now. who knows if they can in September or in 2009? it is absolutely the perfect time for him to be out there. if they aren't willing to do that now, then i have to wonder if they ever will be. It'll be interesting to see how opinions change if Pie doesn't light up AAA pitching again. Everyone seems to assume that's what will happen, but it's far from certain. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. it's definitely not certain. but all evidence suggests he will, just as he has the last two years.
  20. since there's a dominant pitcher going for the opposition, and it's probably his last game in the majors for a while, i look for Pie to get the start. i look forward to people (Lou) using it to justify sending him down tomorrow/tonight.

  22. i look forward to the acquisition being announced during, or right before, the game. followed closely by Len and Bob attempting to justify said move. thank God i have a basketball game tonight. i think i'll avoid recording this one.
  23. Lou, lou, lou, lou, lou ](*,) Five walks in 10 innings against AAA hitters is not good. yeah, i don't have a big problem with Hill making a few more starts in AAA. i do have a problem with Marquis continueing to get starts though. he's far worse than Rich, and has been for two years.
  24. I'd like to formally retract this post. Thank you. I'd like to take this moment and retract any posts I made similar to that one. Poor Felix. Poor Felix and his .596 OPS over 240 career at bats. If he looked at all like he knew how to hit a baseball right now, I'd be more sympathetic. You're right. Thank God the 38 year-old Jim Edmonds' .498 OPS and superior defense will save the day.
