  1. i'm curious how Hendry feels about Lou's use (or lack of use) of Pie. he's (allegedly) passed up several trade oppurtunities for Pie and seemed bound and determined that Pie was his CF this year. then he blew it by signing Reed Johnson and giving Lou another option. not that it was wrong on Hendry's part, but that seemed to spell the end for Pie, in retrospect. that and Johnson's hot start (which has clearly ended).
  2. i look forward to Lou using today as justification for sending down/benching permanetely Pie after he looks "overmatched" against one of the best pitchers in the NL in his first two at-bats (he'll be pulled after that for THE REED).
  3. it absolutely boggles the mind.
  4. Are Hendry/Lou trying to win a championship for Iowa this year or something? Sending down Pie would be completely insane, especially if it's done to carry 13 pitchers. If I see Fontenot starting while Cedeno sits the bench again, my freaking head is going to explode. I haven't gotten too worked up about the whole Theriot v. Cedeno thing because Theriot has been hitting well, but there is no reason to play Fontenot over Cedeno. None. I also love (meaning hate) how the simplist solution to the rotation "issue" (inserting Gallagher) isn't even an option. Jesus...
  5. between the handling of Pie, Cedeno, Marshall, Marmol, Marquis and now Leiber/Gallagher, i've just about had enough of Lou. i thought he was okay last year after so questionable early season decisions (Izturis, Wade Miller), but this is getting insane.
  6. Player A 2008: 1.576 WHIP/18 BB/15 K/107 ERA+/4.12 ERA/19.7 IP 2007: 1.195 WHIP/63 BB/183 K/119 ERA+/3.92 ERA/195 IP Player B 2008: 1.723 WHIP/15 BB/21 K/86 ERA+/5.08 ERA/33.7 IP 2007: 1.388 WHIP/76 BB/109 K/101 ERA+/4.60/191.7 IP One is in the minors and one is (to my knowledge) still in the rotation.
  7. Crean dismisses most of the team.
  8. Guh? i think he's saying that when a situation arises where the 9th is the "most important" inning (say the heart of the order is coming up and it's a one run game or something) then it makes more sense to use Marmol, if he's available, instead of automatically using Wood because he is your "closer".
  9. this, please. why are we freaking out about Wood and Soriano? this is the biggest issue.
  10. Theriot has had a pretty good line drive percentage though, i think. Not that it's likely to continue, but it hasn't been pure luck either.
  11. Also of note, A-Ram4MVP1654 posted Wood's April numbers in yesterday's game thread: We should probably step back from the ledge.
  12. Lou used Marmol at the most important part of the game, against the heart of the Brewers order, which is what he should do. I'm still not worried about Wood yet.
  13. Pie was kinda owned by Suppan last night. Shudder to think what Yovani would do to him right now. but he's shown improvement lately over-all. i think he should be in there vs. RHP. i'm not terribly upset about it, but i'd prefer to see Pie out there.
  14. johnson over pie vs. the righty. meh...
  15. Dailey Herald's note:
  16. limiting Marshall to loogy duty is one of the dumbest things Lou has done since he's been in Chicago. i understand he's frustrated, but he's contributing to this.
  17. i think the bigger issue is Fontenot, not Theriot. get Fontenot out of the freaking lineup.
  18. Point taken, and agreed. I haven't seen Soto hit higher than DeRosa yet (or did I miss it?). Personally, if I were making the lineup.... right. he's primarily been hitting 7th to date, behind derosa.
  19. How do those numbers change when the cutoff is from the beginning of 07? I think that's about as far back as you can fairly go in the comparison, though I suspect your point will stand. 2007: Marquis: 1.46 ERA/ 12.1 IP/ 11 H/ 8 K/ .244 BAA Hill: 4.94 ERA/ 23.2 IP/ 19 H/ 25 K/ .218 BAA I was just about to add this. Hill seems unlucky here(especially since he only walked 5 guys in that split), but when you give up 4 HR in that short a span, it's not surprising his ERA is that high. yeah, i was going to add a commentary that hill is probably still the better option despite the ERA based on the other numbers but my boss walked in so i hit submit as quickly as i could and shut the window. :ninja:
  20. you do know that soto's OPS is pushing 1.100 right now, don't you? I do now. Doesn't surprise me. I don't see him hitting higher than 6 in the order, not that I think he couldn't handle it. Pretty nice situation to have, when you have productive 6-7-8 hitters.... i think the point is soto is going to be more productive than derosa, cedeno, theriot or johnson. you want your most productive hitters to get the most at-bats. he shouldn't be hitting behind any of those guys.
  21. soriano leading-off is far from ideal, but i can live with it. when all is said and done, he's still likely to be one of the team's more productive hitters so i don't have a problem with him getting the at-bats. it's better than having theriot lead-off, IMO. more importantly, i'd like to see fukudome moved up to 2nd and soto 5th soriano fukudome lee ramirez soto derosa pie/johnson theriot/cedeno
