  1. interesting. this might be a stupid question, but who is Loren Tate? do you have a link? thanks.
  2. I'd typically agree; but the only chance in hell IU had to maybe stop UCONN from scoring was to foul and hope they miss. God knows they couldn't stop them otherwise. Price would just wait until the 10-second mark and drive and dish over and over. Pretty pathetic really. My biggest coaching issue in that game was not going to Stemler sooner. Robinson didn't come anywhere near him on the outside. He would have had open shots all game. Sampson made the mistake of trying to matchup with UConn defensively most of the game, instead of making them matchup with us. Going with four "guards" (Bassett, Gordon, Crawford, Ellis) was also an option he didn't take advantage of...until it was too late. I understand wanting to match up, but sometimes you just have to put your five best players out there, period. Like you said, see if you can make them match up with you.

  4. Two days later, i'm still pissed about this game. they really crapped the bed. ugh. sampson did not have them prepared. they looked completely lost most of the game, particularly defensively. I didn't have a good feeling before the game when I heard Sampson's pregame interview on the radio. He didn't seem to be taking the game too seriously and was more or less shrugging off this non-conference game that he felt had more to do with television ratings than anything else. It showed in his teams effort/preparation, imo. DJ not being on with the mid-range jumper also hurt. I've tried to give EJ the benefit of the doubt and try not to expect too much becuase he's a freshman. He's obviously been a great player overall. I was really disapointed Saturday though. That was really an oppurtunity for him to step up and take over a game and he just didn't do it. He was passing up oppurtunities regularly. If you're a top five NBA pick next year, you need to (at least attempt to) step up and take over that game. He was tentative as hell.
  5. 26-5 would mean either a home upset (29 straight wins in Bloomington) or losing all 4 of those tough road games. At this point, I can't see them losing at Illinois. I think we could beat O$U in Columbus also. Wisconsin isn't playing the best basketball, either, but I still think that's a loss. IU beat Illinois by four in Bloomington and trailed a good portion of the game. The crowd will be insane in C-U. Gordon will have two fouls in approximately 55 seconds. It's going to be very, very difficult for IU to get out of there with a win. I think they are likely to lose at Illinois. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them lose all four of the games mentioned above. Of all those, I think @OSU is the most winnable. It's hard to say at this point. Until they play some tougher games (which starts tomorrow) I have a hard time really telling how good they are.
  6. thanks for all the feedback guys. i'll probably end up trying to get some help from other people.
  7. anyone remember what the limit of tickets per game is? specifically for the bleachers. i usually only get 3-4 tickets but i need to try to get 20 ( ) bleacher tickets for the July 12 game for my brother's bachelor party. not sure if the orders are tracked by your address, your computer, or what... my guess is I'll be hitting StubHub for the majority of the seats.
  8. i haven't noticed it elsewhere in the thread, but Byrd's home/road splits are quite drastic. i know this is similar to the whole Mark Derosa debate last year, and that worked out well, but i think it would be a big mistake to expect that from Byrd. Derosa didn't have the kind of home/road splits that Byrd does in Texas. his numbers also didn't jump up in one season as much as Byrd's did.
  9. Byrd for Murton is really bad. You have other options. Either Soriano or Fukudome could play CF in needed against LHP, leaving Murton in one of the corner OF spots. I understand Murton "currently doesn't have a spot", but that's no reason to give him away for trash like Byrd.
  10. +1 It may be true, but I'm skeptical.
  11. Theriot in the 2-spot isn't good, but it's hard for me to get too upset about lineups in January; especially when we've seen how much Lou changes his opinion on such things.
  12. I think this is dead-on. He's not a lefty, he's not a top of the order hitter, and he has a low batting average. Hendry won't be interested, even though he should be.
  13. I over-reacted a bit in the thread last night. I had just had a huge argument about this stuff with my buddy who is an big UofI fan and I carried that over to this convo. Anyway, UofI looking decent early at PU.
  14. Like I said. Bitter as hell. I think raw, myself, CCP, and a few others I'm forgetting (IU fans) have clearly admitted IU hasn't played well the last two games. The don't really have any big wins with UK struggling and SIU not being what they've been the last few years. They obviously lost to Xavier. Who the hell is saying otherwise? Jesus, raw made a joke about IU being the best 1-loss team and every Illinois fan blew their freaking lid. All I hear about is how much Illinois fans hate IU and Kelvin Sampson. How they hope Eric Gordon gets injured. That's not bitter? I'm not above being bitter as hell and hating other teams. But just admit it. I hate the Packers with the fury of a thousand suns. It's largely irrational and I'm bitter when they are better than they Bears. I freely admit that. This is no different.
  15. Because Illinois fans are very bitter. I'm anxiously awaiting the inevitable IU loss at Illinois when the outrageous UofI vitrol will be in full effect in this thread.
  16. Let's turn Minnesota's badness into goodness too!! ? I read Raw's post to say IU should have won by more, but didn't, and that is concerning. No?
  17. Ugh. Hadn't heard that. That game was awful enough, they don't need injuries to make it worse. They're clearly better off with him running the point. Crawford is really talented, but he had all kinds of trouble with that pressure. Two dissapointing offensive games in a row. I don't necessarily expect a Sampson team to have an great offense, but they need to improve. I still think White isn't getting the ball enough. Anyway, I expected a loss last night so even a really ugly win like that is nice. I think they'll improve from having played a few tough games this last week.
  18. So if he's a pretty good option for a 5th starter, what is Marquis? The whole basis for people supporting him seems to have been, "he's okay for a 5th starter". So I guess now we have two? I get what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, but I don't care to see both Lieber and Marquis in the same rotation.
  19. Updated Bracketology
  20. I know it will never happen, but Murton in left, Soriano at second and DeRosa at short, would dramatically improve our offense, and wouldn't downgrade our defense too much IMO. Imagine replacing Theriot's bat with Murton's If I was going to move Soriano, I'd probably try him in CF again. Murton/Soriano/Fukudome across the OF would be nice, offensively. Or put Fukudome in CF with Soriano or Murton in RF, whatever. This makes a lot more sense if you can trade Pie to upgrade at SS or SP. If not, Pie will be in CF I'm sure.
  21. I have to admit, I'm loving this stuff from Illinois fans. As for the game, I definitely expect Illinois to be primed and give IU all they can handle.
  22. I hate giving up both Gallagher and Marshall going into 2008. Having said that, it's probably a fair deal. I don't think the Cubs over-paid. They just need a fifth starter and gave up two potential candidates.
  23. We'll see. That's what worries me most; not losing him for a few games, but how it will effect him if/when he does return.
  24. Bassett's not a huge loss. AJ should be able to pick up some of his shooting ability. Ellis needs to be the primary ball handler. Let Crawford and Gordon play on the wing. Let Ellis run the show. I think he's a significant loss. Maybe not "huge", but important.
