  1. A once great thread is dying a painful death. Anyway, IU at UM tonight. No Basset, again. I'm not feeling great about their chances at a Big Ten title without him. I'm a big fan of Crawford, but they need Basset back soon. Also, Sampson is supposedly telling Gordon to be more aggressive with his shot. I'm curious to see how he responds. There were too many possessions against Iowa where neither Gordon or White would touch the ball. That needs to stop.
  2. God am I ready for the conference play to start. As much as I'm glad IU got away from the obscenely difficult pre-conference schedule they had a few years back, this year was almost too easy, IMO. Boooring... I'm ready to see some real games, particularly on the road.
  3. Change it to "MentalMidget" or "GreedySOB" or......get ready for it......."TowelPower"...HAHAHAHAHAH....Get it.....LOL....He throws towels!!!!!!! I'm kidding. I'd keep it.
  4. What does that matter? Prior was in his arby years and Wood had more service time. He wasn't being underpaid relative to his experience and performance. It matters only because people are acting as if Prior has been (over) paid to do nothing the last several years and Wood is Captain America because he came back "cheap" this year (which was the best deal he was offered). This isn't intended to be a slight at Wood. I love what he's done and I'm very glad he's back. I just think the double standard here is amazing.
  5. Also of note, Mark Prior had more innings pitched in 2003, 2005 and 2006 than everyone's golden boy Kerry Wood. Not to mention the fact that he was better than Wood two of those years and was paid less (I think. Cot's is blocked here at work).
  6. I can not believe this thread. What a joke. The people going out of their way to say that Prior is a wuss and a bad teammate and greedy need to get a freaking grip on reality. I'm very sad to see him go, but I'm not certain how I feel about how Hendry dealt with the situation. He did offer a contract, but I don't know what it was. I can't speak to how Prior felt about the Cubs management on a personal level and vise versa. I can't speak to what kind of teammate he was. The fact is, neither can anyone else here unless they have close personal access to the situation, which nobody here does (save maybe Bruce). This is even ignoring the fact that this stuff doesn't really matter when it comes to being productive and winning. The people claiming Prior has been getting paid, and wants paid, for doing nothing are completely insane. He may or may not ever be an effective pitcher, but you are completely oblivious if you claim he's been doing nothing the last 2-3 years (and the first half of next year). Jason Marquis will make $21 million dollars in his three years with the Cubs. I believe Mark Prior made less than that (or something close to that) in his career with the Cubs. But yeah...Prior is the villian here...
  7. to say he's not an upgrade of Jacque Jones is completely insane. i'm sorry, but it is. say what you will about injury and temper concerns, but Jones can't even dream of being as productive as Milton Bradley.
  8. Thank you. Ryan Theriot is the weakest link. well ideally derosa plays ss, with pie in cf. i just don't see that happening. it's probably more likely that Pie gets traded for an upgrade at ss, but i won't hold my breath on that either. essentially, you could replace Pie's bat with Derosa's while upgrading at SS by trading Pie (theoretically, of course).
  9. Exactly my point. These guys are getting paid to play everyday and they pretty much want to be in there everyday. There are days off built into the schedule. Yes, occasionally there are long stretches of the season where you might want to rest a couple of the starters. In that case, take DeRosa out of the SS spot and move him around a little bit and give those players the necessary rest. Lee won't be suspended and hopefully Soriano is over his leg injury. Typically, Soriano averages over 150 games a season, as does Lee. And if Lee does actually take a day off, are people honestly going to tell me that DeRosa will start at 1b over Daryle Ward? I just don't see where DeRosa gets enough at bats filling this made up "super sub" position. if fukudome can play CF he may end up there the majority of the time with Derosa in RF.
  10. Now this is how it gets interesting. Would the Cubs have been better off having Matsui and those players or Roberts? Considering Matsui was probably going to get a 3 year deal, this option is probably better. There's a good chance that none of those three are going to make any impact with the Cubs anyway (considering the management). Derosa could play RF in a worst-case scenario. Also, you could always pursue a Pie for K. Greene deal mentioned in the other thread.
  11. If Fukudome is going to cost 3/$45, I'd start looking a lot closer at Milton Bradley as an alternative.
  12. That is a lot of money on Fukudome. Yikes. Gallager + Cedeno + Murton for Roberts makes sense to me. I hate to see Murton go in that deal, but I could definitely see it happening. I'd probably do it if I were Hendry.
  13. Sullivan brings up a good point I hadn't thought about. If we acquire these two, it doesn't rule out DeRosa playing in right field. That looks like a pretty good lineup to me. I might juggle Therio, Fukudome and DeRosa a bit but, it kinda works. Roberts,2B Fukudome, CF Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Soriano, LF Derosa, RF Theriot, SS Soto, C This could be a pretty effective lineup. Is DeRosa incapable of playing in RF? I guess that's the question. Derosa played plenty of RF in Texas, but his bat isn't nearly as valuable there as it is at 2B (or SS).
  14. unfortunately, i really don't see Hendry having any interest in Bradley whatsoever, even though it would make perfect sense.
  15. If they get these two would the budget blow up? God, I'd love to have these two in the OF and then trade for Roberts. I'd be perfectly happy with keeping DeRosa at 2B if they had both Fukudome and Bradley. Murton becomes the fourth OFer, if he's not traded in another deal. If they could trade Dempster and/or Marquis (without eating a lot of the contracts), I think the money would work.
  16. he's definitely worthy of considering. i'd be very interested depending on cost, of course. i'd be interested with or with out Fukudome. an outfield of Soriano/Fukudome/Bradley would probably allow me to accept Theriot at SS and/or free up Pie or Murton for trade to improve elsewhere. he fits Hendry's supposed desire for a LH RFer, and he provides exactly what the Cubs lack if he can stay healthy.
  17. I'd be very interested in DeJesus or Lofton (more so DeJesus) if Pie were going to be packaged in another deal.
  18. I guess that would be Hendry's ideal dream of a left-handed Matt Murton, no? ETA: about seven people beat me to that comparison :?
  19. On a scale from 1 to 10, life would be a lot easier if Jim Hendry wasn't an idiot.
  20. More nonsense from Hendry It's almost comical how Hendry absolutely loves Theriot but has total disdain for Murton. It's also funny/strange/conserning how Bruce actually puts quotes around the term "still like" re: Murton.
  21. so far so good. me likey touchdowns.
  22. Starting Gore at 1 RB position. I'm not sure if I want to go with Ryan Grant (vs. DAL) or McGahee (vs. NE). Both are pretty bad matchups. I'm leaning toward Grant thinking he may catch more passes than McGahee and the Packers are slightly less likely to be playing from behind, like the Ravens most certainly will. What say you?
