  1. i don't necessarily mind the bunt attempt, but i didn't like it on the first pitch. Percival was having trouble throwing strikes and had been hit hard a couple of times already that inning.
  2. I had no problem with Hoffpauir hitting in that spot. The only thing I didn't like was Johnson trying to steal third with two outs, but I assume that was done on his own and not directed by Lou.
  3. nice to see you posting agains, rookiecmon.
  4. that 86 OPS+ and .700 OPS sure catalyzed that 2005 team. You can't buy that kind of catalyzation. What about the stolen bases? He was nearly a liability on the bases with his 72% success rate, especially with the power they had in that lineup. Podsednik's base stealing ability was only an asset in his two seasons with Milwaukee and not since. And he's only had one good season in the majors (2003). Outside of that, he's been really bad. 23 CS is a lot of unnecessary outs being made.
  5. i thought i remembered a very long ovation for edmonds. to the point that i remember thinking derosa should probably step out of the box. i wasn't there or anything and may be remembering wrong.
  6. this is one of the few years where i might. they are going to be saddled with some big contracts on some aging players in a few years. they may not have a big window of oppurtunity and are probably only one front-line starter away from being a heavy favorite to win it. i'd give up quite a bit for Sabathia. if you can pick up Sabathia and say...Bradley...then you have a helluva team put together.
  7. i've seen benson's crying on draft day being mentioned on here a few times as a possible red flag into his mindsight, attitude, maturity, etc. here's the lead from david haugh's piece in yesterday's piece on cedric benson's release. he said it's from a source familiar with the story. i thought i remembered him crying about the whole draft/combine process. something about "I'm not a piece of meat like they treated me through this process" or something like that. i just remember thinking, "oh...no......"
  8. I guess you would have had to actually heard what was said in the context of the game. Milton and the media are making it sound way worse than it was. I found Stoney's constant personal attacks on Moises Alou to be much worse than anything Ryan said about Milton the other night. I did hear it... but thanks. Sorry was just my humble opinion and I am so terribly sorry that I seem to be incorrect even though it is just my opinion. no reason to be so defensive.
  9. this is what i was going to say. it may just be perception, but Cox has consistantly been willing to use young players in any situation immediately upon their arrival in MLB. he's not afraid to stick a young guy in there and give him time to adjust to the league, and it's paid dividends. obviously he's had the incredible advantage of a great front office and outstanding pitching staff (both performance-wise and injury-wise) for much of his tenure.
  10. i'd love to go after Bradley. especially if this incident hurts his perceived "value" in any way.
  11. I would, but i don't want to jinx anything. Rob's been getting them up between 9-noon. i'd give him a few more hours, especially considering it's a night game.
  12. yuck. all of the sudden i'm a big jim edmonds fan.
  13. so stupid, lou. thank god for Jim Edmonds. :vomits:
  14. Eric 2005: .325/.400/.517 between A and AA 2006: .276/.339/.419 between AA and AAA 2007: .297/.362/.455 in AAA 2008: .326/.361/.514 in AAA Corey 1999: .320/.354/.592 in A 2000: .261/.329/.491 in AA 2001: .253/.308/.387 in AAA They are not the same player, production-wise as they progressed. Corey was younger at each level though.
  15. please elaborate... He Sox! there, was that so hard?
  16. i do think some people are expecting a little bit too much from Hoffpauir. Patterson is definitely the better prospect. having said that, i probably still would have went with a Hoff/Murton platoon at this point.
  17. as discussed in his call-up thread, it's probably because Lou/Hendry see him as a lead-off hitter. that and he's left-handed. poor reasons probably, but i'd guess that's what they are thinking. Theriot or Fuku could hit leadoff just as well. I have nothing against E Patt, but Im just saying. definitely. i never thought i'd say this, but i'd be fine with Theriot leading off while he's hitting like this. Fukudome 2nd. Murton and Hoffpauir platoon in LF. it's almost too obvious. having said that, i've finally resided myself to the fact that Murton just isn't going to play on this team unless there are several key injuries at once. if that's the case, they might as well see where Patterson is at this point, i guess. i do think it would make more sense to put him at 2B though, with Derosa in LF.
  18. as discussed in his call-up thread, it's probably because Lou/Hendry see him as a lead-off hitter. that and he's left-handed. poor reasons probably, but i'd guess that's what they are thinking.
  19. well, here's hoping patterson gets off to a fast start. that's what she said.
  20. My only disappointment would be that their rationale was probably something like, Patterson has leadoff ability and speed, and that's what we need to fill Soriano's shoes. oh i'm quite certain that he was called because; a) he's a "lead-off" hitter; and b) he's left-handed.
  21. i don't mind patterson being called up (i would have prefered Murton), but having both patterson and fontenot on the 25 seems redundant.
  22. did they say if he is playing LF or 2B?
  23. i'm curious to see how they're going to use Patterson on this call up. if he's going to play 2B, it's redundant to have him and Fontenot both on the 25. i'm kind of wondering if they'll be a bit of a platoon (offensively speaking) between Patterson and Johnson. Johnson leading of (CF) against LHP and Patterson leading off (LF or 2B) against RHP. I still think it makes far more sense to bring Murton up in place of either Fontenot or Patterson to play LF against LHP. ETA: Weird that Patterson hasn't played LF for Iowa at all this season.
