  1. And 2 Ws. At some point you have to go for it. It's gutsy and could be the right decision. Some guys can do it and some can't.
  2. Interesting. I hope his shoulder is ok Lou did this last year with Lilly (started him for 2 innings and then had him pitch on "3 days rest" in Game 2), and Lilly looked awful in the playoffs. I love that Lilly went from our number 2 starter to our number 4 starter. And Rich Hill went from our 3rd starter to the Rookie League... And Wood went from 1st starter to Sham Closer. And Prior went from our 2nd starter to...er...the DL But at least it's now the Padres DL.
  3. Haha at Grace making fun of the fatty vegetarian.
  4. Last Week: Mizzou wins and drops a spot. This Week: Mizzou doesn't play and most likely gains two spots.

And we still have probably the best rotation going into the playoffs.
  6. If a player hits a homer, but say breaks his leg between home and first, isn't his pinch-runner entitled to first and only first? So, in this situation Molina has to be allowed back into the game to circle the bases for himself. If a player can't circle the bases for an injured player, why should he be allowed to for an uninjured player. Also, wouldn't it be an illegal substitution to pinch-run for him essentially in the middle of a play? Therefore, since the ruling was overturned it's like the play never stopped and the substitution could never take place.

  8. 242 Pitches in a 5-day period.
  9. I guess if you have him throw that many you really, really don't want to lose the game and the bullpen is a crapshoot.
  10. why did they pitch him on short rest? Who else do they have to pitch today? Oliver Perez on 2 days rest? He's the best option at this point. It's a desperation move, but I have to say I agree with it. Manuel said earlier this week that he wouldn't start Johan on short rest, but that was before they were trailing 1 game with 2 games left. Although I would've taken him out at about 85 pitches or so. Yeah, their pen sucks, but he's just going to be completely dead even if they make the postseason. Not only that, but Santana can pitch in Game 2 of the NLDS on regular rest and come back for a Game 5 on short rest. But like you said, he'll be dead. SOOOOO many pitches right now.
  11. Ridiculous. I bet there is a rule-change over this.
  12. It will be interesting to see how many pitches Johan throws today on short rest. He's at 77 after 5.
  13. I doubt it. The White Sox/Twins series in the ALDS isn't supposed to start until Thursday.
  14. Maybe I could potentially be the first case of bird flu in humans...
  15. When the Cubs switched, it was because the fans just weren't supporting the team in Jackson (I think they were always at or near the bottom of the league in attendance). The Marlins switching from Carolina to Jacksonville was because theywanted the team to be located closer to the parent team (understandable, since callups from AA straight to the majors are fairly common these days). I don't know the reason for the other moves this time, but a lot of times it is because a minor league city opens up closer to the parent team's home. All the games I went to, including playoff games, were very sparsely attended. The ballpark is gorgeous though. http://www.ballparkreviews.com/wtenn/wtenn.htm I strongly disagree with the comments about the stadium on that page. The stadium is right in the middle of a cornfield. It's almost like the Field of Dreams. I don't think the ballpark is to blame for the lack of atmosphere, but the lack of fans is to blame.
  16. Jackson, TN is about 3 hours from my home town so we used to go see the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx. It was an awesome park and you could sit on the on-deck circle for $7. I was really disappointed when the Cubs dropped their affiliation. Does anybody know why affiliations switch so often? So instead of the Southern League we go to Memphis Redbirds games when they play Iowa. In my last Redbirds game Augie Ojeda homered...
  17. That's what I'm trying to figure out. The plusses and minuses. I mean, if I'm not going to be able to enjoy a lot of the games, then I'd just assume watch them on TV. There are some huge positives (possibly being in the clubhouse for a WS celebration, seeing the action from field-level, actually being on the field during bp, etc.) But there are some huge negatives (how much will I miss, will I not be able to cheer, am I even going to have a good vantage point in the camera well, can I afford three trips to Chicago in such a short span, etc.) EDIT: I also wouldn't like the possibility of having to help get photos of the visitors locker room if they just won the WS. That would be horrible.
  18. Last year I missed Game 3 for the Mizzou-Nebraska game. I was originally going to watch the Cubs game, but they were ticking me off and I'm happy in the choice I made. My brother quit 8th grade football in '03 because they had a game the night of Game 6 of the NLCS. My mom told my wife (then fiancee) that she better not have a kid during a Cubs WS game b/c not only would I not be there, but neither would my mom...
  19. Even if I think it's the best for them, I don't like seeing the Cubs lose.
  20. I wouldn't mind Hamels vs. CC for Game 1... It won't affect our division series. I would rather CC beat Hamels than CC not get to pitch until Game 3 so if the Brewers do win he'll be setup perfect to face the Cubs in the NLCS for Game 1.
  21. There was an article on MLB.com and it said that the Cubs hadn't made their decision yet. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080925&content_id=3550757&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  22. The offense doesn't bother me so much as the mental errors do. BTW, any word on Soto? I am very glad to see the pitchers who will be pitching in October doing well. It's not like Shark got hammered or anything and Demp looked good.
  23. Mets lose. Cubs offense isn't making me very happy today.
  24. I've honestly thought about something of that nature. It's funny you mention bumping elbows because supposedly we go to the clubhouse after the games. If I can be in there for a WS celebration, I just might die...
