  1. Perhaps the best pitching prospect in the minors, Casey Mize pulled after 23 pitches. His last pitch 85mph. Not looking good.
  2. Well this is about as exciting a pitching day as the farm has had in a very long time.
  3. Their extensions have been absolute nightmares so far. 36 year old Molina is making $20M this year and $20M in 2020 while putting up an 82 wRC+. 33 year old Matt Carpenter is due $18.5M in 2020 and another $18.5M in 2021 with a 2022 option of $18.5M while providing a 97 wRC+ so far this year. 33 year old Dexter Fowler is due $14.5M this year and again in 2020 and 2021 putting up a wRC+ of 106. 30 year old Mikolas is due $15.75M each year from now through 2023 and putting up a 4.74FIP/4.40SIERA.
  4. Up to 19HR at home with an 1.606OPS vs on the road with 5HR and an .844OPS. Six percent higher BB% and six percent lower K% at home as well. Has any player ever had such a ridiculous Home/Away split?
  5. I feel pretty safe in saying Alzolay is probably the least likely piece to be moved on the farm, simply because someone is going to have to take Cole's spot in the rotation for 2020 on the cheap and his combination of MLB readiness and ability make him the prime target. Money may be coming off the books between Zobrist,Hamels,Strop,Morrow, etc. but a ton of that money is going to be spent on arbitration raises and restocking the bullpen.
  6. Hey, Garlin isn't completely sauced this time, still terrible in an interview though. I really need to just turn the spell checker off, it causes more errors than it fixes
  7. So they blow up an all star quality pitcher like Marquez yesterday and look completely helpless against a good, not great, pitching prospect making his debut today. Fun.
  8. Well on my way to putting Descalso in my Cub hate hall of fame joining Neifi,Theriot,Miles etc.
  9. Cubs have signed 6th round pick Hearns for 2nd round money.
  10. So I'm pretty shocked not a single HS player has been taken. I suppose the good news is that in another year or two we wont have to trade our prospects for relievers anymore.
  11. I'm not angry or anything, just underwhelmed. There were a handful of guys I would like to have had there.
  12. Pretty happy with that Card pick. I don't think that arm has much chance of holding up to a starter workload.
  13. Absolutely love Corbin Carroll. Dbacks got a steal.
  14. Sadly the Sox made the right decision and took Vaughn.
  15. I'd absolutely be thrilled if any of Priester,Hoese or Cavaco slipped to the Cubs
  16. Sure they will, but they'll leave them stranded.
  17. Why can't this team hit with runners on?
  18. I swear the ump is just guessing at this point. Zero consistency on any part of the plate. Also, Descalso is just so awful.
  19. To be fair to the Cubs, I wouldn't necessarily call this a "misdiagnosis" because hairline fractures can be very difficult to discover. Sometimes a person doesn't even realize they have one or had one -- they just endure the pain (which can vary from moderate to severe). Nico probably started swinging the bat in light workouts and started noticing the pain from swinging in his wrist, but otherwise felt fine. This news sucks, but he should be fully healthy in like a month. Plenty of time left in the season at AA and we were never planning on calling him up this year. I also seriously doubt we'll include him in any trade package. That's the silver lining for me. Highly doubt he gets dealt for bullpen help now. I don't think dealing him was ever a realistic option. With Bryant,Baez, Contreras, etc. getting more expensive, they're going to have to replace people like Zobrist with cheap talent.
  20. I'd be okay with this selection. The tools are all elite (except the hit tool obviously) and he has a chance to stick in CF. I'd hope the Cubs' coaches and instructors could help improve his swing and unlock his full potential. If he was hitting in conference play there is NO way we have a chance at him. I'm on the other end of the spectrum. For me hit tool is the single most important one and needed to play up the others. Unrelated, but damn Carter's stock is in free fall after going 8th last year.
  21. Just about 70 pitches through 3. I'm about ready to see what Clifton can do.
  22. First Darvish start I've watched and 1/3 of his pitches are nowhere near the zone. I didn't realize it was this bad.
