  1. 29 year old journeyman Tommy Pham is having himself one hell of a year so far. He's posting a .311/.398/.530 line in 254PAs to go with 12HR and 12SB. He's been worth 2.6fWAR in 62 games which puts him on 6.8fWAR pace over a 162 game season.
  2. Please Cubs let this be an actual run and not a win 3 straight then lose 4 of the next 5 time of thing like you've done all year.
  3. I would much rather give a contract to someone like Cobb/Lynn in the off season than give up any kind of talent for Teheran.
  4. My first thought too. I think this was a smart trade for Was, and not a great return for Oak also. Why didn't they wait till closer to the trade deadline? Were they that worried that Doolittle would get hurt again? S. Doolittle, when healthy, is very good. Obviously, his injury concerns/history are big worries for any team acquiring him. Still, I like this trade for Was. Hopefully, their bullpen continues to suck because if they fix that problem -- they're pretty damn scary and formidable (manager notwithstanding). The man has had 2 nearly career ending shoulder injuries already. How much did people expect him to really fetch? He's a time bomb whose chances of going off before he reaches FA far exceeds the chances he makes it to FA healthy.
  5. This is nice to see. Don't just open up a big lead and then count outs, keep putting up quality ABs regardless of the score.
  6. So it probably can't be done during the season, but what does it cost to bring Archie Bradley over from Arizona? He's still just 24 and absolutely killing it in the bullpen to the tune of a 1.50ERA 2.34FIP 2.77xFIP 10.71K/9 1.71BB/9. I'd love to have him as a #5 in 2018.
  7. For a middle infielder it sure seems like a rather large portion of his hits go for extra bases.
  8. So just for scenario's sake, say the Cubs get Gray. They then have a full rotation of Lester,Quintana,Gray,Hendricks,Montgomery for 2018. They also have I believe roughly 65M coming off the books, minus the 10M for quintana and another roughly 15-20M for ARB 1 on Baez,Bryant,Russell,Hendricks and that leaves the Cubs in the neighborhood of 35-40M to spend on upgrades. I don't see a single bat in 2018 FA that I want so is it rolled into 2019, used to extend Wade or do you think they start locking up some of the young guys?
  9. .772OPS going into tonight and a 120wRC+. He sure made that slow start go away pretty quickly.
  10. Not when that player is only under contract for a couple more months and can be used to immediately fill a hole in the rotation for the next 6 to 7 years. Yeah, you can definitely rely on some random prospect to do that. Nothing is a guarantee, but if they're 8 games back I'd much rather make that gamble then continue to hope and pray they aren't the same team that has half assed its way through the first 90 games.
  11. Not when that player is only under contract for a couple more months and can be used to immediately fill a hole in the rotation for the next 6 to 7 years.
  12. and yet here we are more than half of the way into this season 5.5gb and closer to last place in the division than 1st place. They just haven't shown any signs of waking up at all.
  13. If say the Cubs are 7 or 8 back at the deadline and they forego moving Davis for MLB ready arms like Fedde or Chance Adams or slightly further away but high upside guys like Franklin Perez then that will be a shortsighted mistake because I'm at the point where I think odds are against this team figuring out anything this year.
  14. Season ends today, is there anyone who doesn't have Paredes safely tucked inside our top 10?
  15. If they want to pick up that contract and throw the Zagunis/Hatch/Candelario's of the farm then fine, whatever. However if they end up picking up that contract and dealing any of Eloy,Happ,Cease then that's going to be near impossible to justify to me.
  16. First time I've really thought that it was unlikely the Cubs would be in the playoffs. Up until now it was they'll get it together eventually, but we're at a point where we pretty much are what we are unless something big happens.
  17. That's almost hilariously delusional. If they don't want to trade him just say so and be honest.
  18. So much for hoping that come back win against the Nationals was going to be the spark to get things rolling.
  19. I don't think so. Those 2 both belong in the top 10 hitters in the minors with other guys like Kyle Tucker,Rodgers,Juan Soto,Eloy, etc.
  20. That Yadier Molina extension still absolutely blows my mind. You have the #1 catching prospect in the game in your organization, he's basically MLB ready, but instead you give your nearly 35 year old catcher a 3/60 extension. I also enjoy their absolute refusal to use someone who is actually capable of playing SS.
  21. The Mets seem like they can just create good pitching prospect after good pitching prospect. Give me Jordan Humphreys please.
  22. It's getting frustrating. Every time I start to think they're gonna have a nice long run in them they have a game like this and undo all the positives vibes that were building up.
  23. I wonder if Jake is still going to foolishly pursue 7/200 or if his 3/4 of a year being not so good would scare him into accepting a much more realistic 4/90 or 5/115 deal.
  24. The sad part is Baltimore has absolutely nothing in the minors for pitching. Hunter Harvey who hasn't even totaled 5IP in the last couple years is still very likely their #1 pitching prospect and Cody Sedlock, their 1st rounder from last year, is not exactly thriving at A+. If they chose to keep Machado through 2018 that is going to be one hell of a long rebuild for Baltimore.
