Lowering his hands drastically like Rizzo was the first noticeable thing. Secondly, he doesn't turn his wrists over half way through the swing like he was last year. It's a much smoother and quicker swing.
First thing I noticed to, it's an exact spot on match. I hope he has his Dad's plate coverage because watching Vladdy bat was always fun. HR possibilities from his chin to his toes.
Yes, please. I like Musgrove more than Odorizzi right now. No doubt. If the Cubs could get Musgrove and it only cost them Happ, I'd be absolutely thrilled.
My guess is that right now any of McCarthy,Ethier or Kazmir are free if you're willing to take on the entirety of the contract. They'd still have a deep rotation of Kershaw/Hill/Maeda/Wood/Ryu/Urias/De Leon/Stewart
If that happens I could see Blackmon to the Cardinals for Weaver as the main piece. Supposedly the Rockies asked Toronto for Stroman in a Blackmon trade
In 2018 the WSox could be putting out a rotation of Quintana,Giolito,Lopez,Kopech and Rodon. I don't know if I've ever seen a rotation with that much upside before.
Joe Ross would be your safe bet, but I'd gamble on Lopez, with Giolito likely still too costly. The stuff is so filthy that even if he can't manage to hold up as a starter you've got a true dominating closer in the making.
Yeah, getting a World Series win absolutely sucked utter and complete ass. Chapman's character issues aside, I was and am fine with the move that was made. I would not be a fan of trading for one year of a closer as an annual strategy, though. I'd just as soon offer a bit more for assets with more control. That said, my primary concern here is Davis' health. Pretty much this. I can get over Gleyber because they were going after the first world series. Now 6 months later we're doing the same thing and give up yet another young talented piece. What are we going to do in 2018 when we need a closer again?
For a year and a half worth of closers the Cubs have given up Gleyber and Soler. If only they'd have packaged them together at one point you'd think they could have landed a closer with a little bit of team control. I look forward to giving up Eloy for a season of whoever in 2018.
Talking to a friend via a friend who works for a Tampa Bay newspaper and he thinks there's a strong chance that a Colome deal may happen not all too long after this Wade Davis situation plays itself out. Tryp, could we reasonably part with a package that would net Colome and Honeywell? If one season of broken Wade Davis is going to cost Soler I don't see how it could possibly get done without involving at least one of Eloy or Baez.

Trying not to get down on a deal before it happens, but between the talent likely headed to KC and that this likely means the Cubs wont be spending any notable money despite a huge increase in revenue, I'll just say I'm prematurely disappointed.
http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/6oo.gif That's ridiculous. I don't want to hear a damn thing about not being able to afford Jansen and then pony up for Otani next year. Between this and the post season income they should be bringing in damn near an extra 100M a year.
I feel like a Sale deal has to include Turner. Yeah I just read some blurb on twitter that says they can do it without him. Im not sure how that's possible. Giolito(4),Robles(13),Lopez(48),Fedde(61), international signing Juan Soto, AJ Cole. Last year's early round guys Carter Kieboom and Dane Dunning. Michael Taylor still has a little shine. They have lots of talent to move around.
That is a hell of a lot for Herrera who you're only going to get 2 years of. If we're going closers let's go super young and lots of control. Joe Jimenez,Edwin Diaz,Barraclough,Raisel Iglesias, etc etc
Ok, so the Braves literally have about 10SP candidates now. Someone has to be on the move. Edit: Make that 11SP candidates Teheran,Garcia,Dickey,Colon and Folty,Wisler,Blair,Gant,Perez,Jenkins,Collmenter all possibilities for the 5th spot
It's absolutely amazing to me that after graduating Bryant,Russell,Baez,Contreras,Soler and Schwarber that without the Chapman trade the Cubs would still have the #1,#3 and #8 prospects in the AZL as well as possible top 100 guys in Cease,Clifton and Candelario
