  1. Looks like it's not only forum posters anymore. St.Louis is turning on Dexter; it's a shame, he deserves better. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/ben-frederickson/benfred-s-so-far-cardinals-have-been-better-without-fowler/article_adb5e2c6-73d5-5db3-acd6-7d32b164bbb4.html
  2. Sometimes you have to gamble on getting an extra inning, this is the 5th of 20 consecutive games and the pen through 4.2 innings yesterday. Lackey wasn't exhausted and 7-8-9 were due up. He hit 3 people in one inning, I don't care how fresh he was. Clearly he was not locating anything and shouldn't have been out there.
  3. There was zero reason for Lackey to even be in this inning. Can't wait until I hear Joe try and justify that.
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but picking up Verlander would effectively mean we're out on Otani before it even happens right? Lester still has 4 years, Quintana 3, Verlander 3 and Hendricks only hitting arb 1. I guess I could see them leaving Montgomery in the bullpen, but to spend another 200M on top of Verlander/Lester. You'd have nearly 100M annually tied up in just the rotation.
  5. This is just horsefeathering embarrassing. 1 out, you guys can't get one god damn out?
  6. Hopefully if they did trade for Darvish it would be with the intent of extending him before he hit FA.
  7. I'm setting KB at 12, Addy and Hendricks at 5 each. We'll see what happens, but I think I'm actually slightly UNDER selling what those 3 get. If I remember correctly, David Price holds the record for arb price at 20M and that was an arb 4 after winning CY. So something like 12M,16M,20M,24M over Bryant's arb years looks right.
  8. It makes this year's playoff rotation worse so I hard pass.
  9. Marketing ploy...They have probably the best farm in the league, if they actually were buyers they'd buy. Teams are copying the Cubs, who also were rumored to be shopping for SPs when they sucked. You should tell that to the White Sox who had top 25 prospect Ozzie Albies offered to them in part of a Quintana deal.
  10. If Card's talk is any indication, the Dexter Fowler hate from the St.Louis fandom is absolutely brutal. Let's hope the FO over there feels the same way. I'd love to take Dex back if St.Louis ate some money.
  11. When a team is actively shopping for pitchers like the Braves and then openly selling another there's not a lot of ways you can spin that in the positive for the guy getting sold.
  12. 29 year old journeyman Tommy Pham is having himself one hell of a year so far. He's posting a .311/.398/.530 line in 254PAs to go with 12HR and 12SB. He's been worth 2.6fWAR in 62 games which puts him on 6.8fWAR pace over a 162 game season.
  13. Please Cubs let this be an actual run and not a win 3 straight then lose 4 of the next 5 time of thing like you've done all year.
  14. I would much rather give a contract to someone like Cobb/Lynn in the off season than give up any kind of talent for Teheran.
  15. My first thought too. I think this was a smart trade for Was, and not a great return for Oak also. Why didn't they wait till closer to the trade deadline? Were they that worried that Doolittle would get hurt again? S. Doolittle, when healthy, is very good. Obviously, his injury concerns/history are big worries for any team acquiring him. Still, I like this trade for Was. Hopefully, their bullpen continues to suck because if they fix that problem -- they're pretty damn scary and formidable (manager notwithstanding). The man has had 2 nearly career ending shoulder injuries already. How much did people expect him to really fetch? He's a time bomb whose chances of going off before he reaches FA far exceeds the chances he makes it to FA healthy.
  16. This is nice to see. Don't just open up a big lead and then count outs, keep putting up quality ABs regardless of the score.
  17. So it probably can't be done during the season, but what does it cost to bring Archie Bradley over from Arizona? He's still just 24 and absolutely killing it in the bullpen to the tune of a 1.50ERA 2.34FIP 2.77xFIP 10.71K/9 1.71BB/9. I'd love to have him as a #5 in 2018.
  18. For a middle infielder it sure seems like a rather large portion of his hits go for extra bases.
  19. So just for scenario's sake, say the Cubs get Gray. They then have a full rotation of Lester,Quintana,Gray,Hendricks,Montgomery for 2018. They also have I believe roughly 65M coming off the books, minus the 10M for quintana and another roughly 15-20M for ARB 1 on Baez,Bryant,Russell,Hendricks and that leaves the Cubs in the neighborhood of 35-40M to spend on upgrades. I don't see a single bat in 2018 FA that I want so is it rolled into 2019, used to extend Wade or do you think they start locking up some of the young guys?
  20. .772OPS going into tonight and a 120wRC+. He sure made that slow start go away pretty quickly.
  21. Not when that player is only under contract for a couple more months and can be used to immediately fill a hole in the rotation for the next 6 to 7 years. Yeah, you can definitely rely on some random prospect to do that. Nothing is a guarantee, but if they're 8 games back I'd much rather make that gamble then continue to hope and pray they aren't the same team that has half assed its way through the first 90 games.
