  1. My understanding was that this year's draft picks can't be picked up until the next prospect draft (unless they're called up to the majors before then), but that players in the minors at the time of the last prospect draft could be taken since everybody had their fair chance and passed on them. I'm not completely sure if that was the most recent ruling, though.
  2. Nice close match between Kevin and I so far. Less than 10 points difference and equal pitching starts remaining.
  3. Don't forget Back to the Future II told us that.
  4. That's my understanding too. Similarly, I believe it's OK to bring up a player from the minor league roster and insert him in your active lineup midweek if he just got called up in MLB, but not if he was already in the majors at the start of the week.
  5. If Bill Mazeroski is a Hall of Famer and Chipper Jones isn't they need to blow up the Hall and start over.
  6. I'd almost forgotten that Atkins was even up with the Cubs.
  7. Insert obligatory Scully reference here. The truth is out there.
  8. There's a story on cubs.com that indicates Lou and Larry spotted a mechanical flaw when Wells pitches out of the stretch and that flaw may be causing his troubles. I'd like to see him get at least one more start to see if they've corrected the flaw. If he struggles again I'd send him to Iowa to try to correct the flaw.
  9. Fucking Juan Pierre saved you the embarassment of having a no-no on your bench.
  10. Four wins in the last five weeks for me since starting 0-5. For proof of the East's superiority over the West one need look no further than the fact that I was getting completely owned by East teams, but now I'm totally trashing West contenders with records far superior to mine. My turnaround is due to the Miggy trade. He was a clubhouse cancer, and now that he's gone my players are able to relax and produce. Addition by subtraction. :D
  11. Atkins is up, Russell is down.
  12. http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/column/2010/2610185.html So we can blame Mother Nature if Simpson doesn't pan out.
  13. What's there to wonder about? We KNOW they're clueless.
  14. Pineiro put up 39 points tonight and I had him on my bench. Shields' -31.5 point outing helps ease the pain, though.
  15. http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2010/06/10/0609-Derrek-Lee-Primary_20100610010302_660_320.JPG Not only has he stopped shaving, but in that photo he looks really pale and even sickly. He looks like he is in Week 3 of Cubs Survivor. And he needs to be voted out at the next Tribal Council.
  16. Television bans used to be common, but I think they're unfair, not to the team that's being punished but to their opponents. Innocent teams would lose television coverage and revenue.
  17. You each have it half right. Nady threw the ball over Hill's head.
  18. With this crappy team he should pay you to take the tickets off his hands.
  19. Anybody notice when the ESPN announcers were talking about how Castro played for Sandberg at Iowa before being called up? Oops; Castro never played a game for Iowa.
  20. Thinking he was Ozzie Smith and trying to do a cartwheel. If I remember correctly he then tried to come back too early from his knee injury and messed up his shoulder by overcompensating for his knee. Harkey and Lance Dickson were two should-have-been stars that both had their careers ruined by injury. They remind me of Prior and Wood, although maybe not with quite the same level of talent.
  21. 30+ points from Pelfrey tonight. He's really come on this year.
  22. You can't possibly be serious. Concerns? Yes. Completely writing them off? Definitely not.
  23. Tim Lincecum and Josh Johnson will likely go before Silva, too. Other possibles based on performance or reputation/fan base: Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, Mike Leake, Stephen Strasburg (he will get votes, regardless of performance), Clayton Kershaw, Tim Hudson, etc. I think with Silva being a notoriously terrible pitcher he might get overlooked for some bigger names. If he keeps this level of performance up he definitely deserves the nod, but if he's not picked it wouldn't surprise me one bit. I think pitchers are selected by the managers and not by a vote. I doubt that Strasburg will get in and name recognition will be less important. I think managers seem to favor veterans that have paid their dues and that could help out Silva. I think that Silva will get in as a replacement for someone that pitched the Sunday before. If I'm not mistaken managers will select alternates, if a voted in pitcher is unable to pitch. Otherwise, they are all voted in by the fans. I guess I am mistaken... you can't vote for pitchers. Could've sworn you could... and based on this... You're right Fans have never been able to vote for pitchers since fan voting was reinstated around 1970.
  24. And if he does turn out to be a successful major league manager the Cubs could always consider him later when it's time to replace Trammel.
  25. I'm sure that's just a rehabilitation assignment since he's on the DL.
