  1. Silva is questionable for his start tomorrow because of his calf (I think they should push him back a few days and give him over the break to rest it). Originally the plan was to start Atkins tomorrow if Silva can't go, but that's no longer an option since he pitched in relief last night. Somebody would be called up for a spot start if necessary. My speculation is Samardzija. Both he and Diamond would be able to pitch on normal rest tomorrow since they started the double header games on Tuesday. Since Samardzija is on the 40-man roster and Diamond isn't I think Samardz would be the more likely call-up for a spot start.

    Week 14

Guillen missed yesterday's game and is day-to-day with a strained quad, so I moved Byrd to OF and slid Glaus in at U.
  3. Pie left the game with a strained quad (less than a week after returning from a lengthy stay on the DL). Wieters also left the game with an injury. The field was reportedly quite slick.
  4. Ex-Cubs played a prominent role in Baltimore's come-from-behind win over Texas. Corey Patterson hit his first career grand slam (his 4th hit of the game) off Neftali Feliz with two out in the 9th to tie the game 6-6. Jake Fox then hit a home run in the 10th to win the game 7-6. On a less positive note Felix Pie left the game with a left quad strain.
  5. I wonder what the deal is here. He must not be injured or he would have been placed on the DL instead.
  6. Aram is finally over the Mendoza line.
  7. And he's a Chicagoland native too (born in Arlington Heights). Do it.
  8. He lost his job as an ESPN analyst because of this.
  9. It's now official; Peavy will have surgery and is done for the year. He hopes to be throwing again by Spring Training. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5367627
  10. If you haven't been reading the chat on Roadkill (I don't think anything has been posted about this here), apparently there's a need for scoring adjustment on Chuck's team because a couple of his starters were used in relief.
  11. Good prices, though, regardless of the sport. :D
  12. Apparently FNDomination used to be A-Cal but created a new account rather than having his user name changed on the old account.
  13. On second thought.....

I read the same thing. He was placed on the DL retroactive to July 1; if he started today he wouldn't have been able to be backdated.

    Week 14

I believe we have until the first game begins on Thursday. As far as pitching starts are concerned, the number of pitching starts actually shown is meaningless. You're free to move starting pitchers in and out of your active lineup as needed to get 7 starts. Some times it may show more than 7 starts because of two-start pitchers, but you move the pitcher to your reserve list after his first start. Other times it may show less than 7 starts because you have a pitcher on your reserve list to start the week, then move him to your active lineup later in the week to replace another pitcher after his start. You're even allowed to have more than or fewer than 5 starters active for a given day if that's what it takes to get 7 starts, even though you'll get an illegal roster message.

    Week 14

Thinking ahead to next week, are we going with the lower limit of 4 starts as we have the past couple of years? That makes sense to me, because it's the same rate (average of one start per day) that we normally have.

    Week 14

My scrap heap 1B (Glaus) has missed the past few days and is day-to-day with a knee injury, so I replace him with another scrap heap 1B (Branyan), and he hits a HR in his first game for me. I haven't done too bad with scrap heap 1Bs since trading Miggy.
  18. I think Steve Swisher in 1976 or 1977 (I forget the exact year) was probably a worse selection. But Infante is definitely high on the list.
  19. The bullpen shuffle continues.
  20. I know he had no intentions of keeping Hamilton, but that is a horrible decision he made. He didn't really make that decision, though. For the gazillionth time on this board, he agreed to trade the pick to the Reds BEFORE he even knew who the Reds wanted. He would never have stuck with the Cubs as a Rule 5 pick because the Cubs didn't have room on the major league roster for another outfielder.
  21. Geoff Jenkins, who last played for the Phillies in 2008, will announce his retirement on Friday. He will retire as a Brewer after spending 10 of his 11 seasons with them.
