  1. Kansas City designated Guillen for assignment, so I dropped him, promoted Ka'aihue to my major league roster, and inserted him at utility (where I previously had Guillen). I believe this is a legitimate move because Guillen isn't currently on a major league roster.
  2. Interesting that MLB broadcasting teams is such a hot topic. :D
  3. This will be the last weekend of the year without football. Even this weekend isn't without football. The Hall of Fame Game is Sunday night.
  4. Well, he couldn't hit anything at the major league level this year in a tiny sample – .607 OPS in 120 PAs. He's not hit much in the minors this year either – .746 OPS in only 11 games. He was hurt much of the year and is having TJS, I believe. He is having TJS (if he hasn't already). I think I read that he's expected to be ready for next year; position players don't take as long to return as pitchers do.
  5. Silva played catch today. He's still undergoing tests to determine the cause of the problem.
  6. I think you're right. Players already signed before this year are fair game because everybody had a fair chance during this year's prospect draft, but I believe this years' draftees have to wait until the next prospect draft.
  7. Whatever happens today, I GUARANTEE that the Cubs will not lose tomorrow.
  8. I doubt he'd reconsider. If he wouldn't accept a trade to California, where he's from, he won't accept a trade anywhere.
  9. Prior has signed with the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League. He will pitch as a setup man.
  10. True. Undoubtedly the Cubs themselves have placed numerous players on waivers. Just being placed on waivers is a non-story.
  11. Only major league service time counts toward arbitration. Time in the minors while on the 40-man roster does not.
  12. He was claimed off waivers from Texas early last September but didn't appear in a game in the Cubs' system last year. He was then DFAd and outrighted to Iowa after clearing waivers.
  13. Cubs are undefeated in games started by Thomas Diamond. :D
  14. There would be an uproar. It would come from the other GMs. :D
  15. The preseason thread has been started, so time to put offseason to bed.
  16. For this year, yes. For the future, that remains to be seen. I do recall reading that when the surgery was performed the damage wasn't as bad as first feared. I think the Cubs need to operate under the assumption that he's done and if he can return it's a nice bonus.I seem to remember hearing that it was career threatening or career ending. Guess I was wrong. You're not necessarily wrong. Career threatening, yes. Career ending, remains to be seen. At least that's the latest I remember.
  17. Clearly you are not familiar with the saga of the 1914 Boston Braves. The 1951 Giants are up there too.
  18. For this year, yes. For the future, that remains to be seen. I do recall reading that when the surgery was performed the damage wasn't as bad as first feared. I think the Cubs need to operate under the assumption that he's done and if he can return it's a nice bonus.
  19. Update: Silva has been placed on the 15-day DL. The roster is still at 24, so no corresponding move will need to be made when Diamond is called up tomorrow.
  20. BTW neither Coleman nor Diamond are currently on the 40-man roster, but (at least according to cubs.com) the roster is currently only at 38, so no 40-man roster moves would need to be made.
  21. It makes zero sense to me to say that someone is too old for his level when he's in low A ball in his first full professional season.
  22. I was thinking that the Cubs might call up a pitcher just to give an extra bullpen arm for tonight since they wouldn't need to call up Diamond until tomorrow. Coleman would probably go right back down tomorrow unless they place Silva on the DL.
