  1. That guy looked like he would rather eat [expletive] than face the crowd. Who could blame him? We have had some outstanding tops of the 7th this year right before people had to sing. Some real doozies, half hour half innings, errors, steals of home, you name it! Maybe that's just a sign that it's time to end the guest conductors.
  2. And the Lou Piniella era is now officially over.
  3. Of all the utility players Hendry has acquired over the years, it looks like this is the one he should have kept. I don't second guess Hendry about Infante; he's having a career year and today is probably the best, if not one of his best, game(s) ever. His career line is .274/.318/.396/.714 with a 90 OPS+ i don't even remember the cubs getting him. what did they trade him for? They had him on paper for about three weeks in November and December 2007. They got him from the Tigers for Jacque Jones, then flipped him to the Braves (along with Will Ohman) for Jose Ascanio.
  4. I hate Ryne Sandberg. The minor leagues are supposed to be about the young kids. Helping the kids become major leaguers. He's only out for himself, just like he always was. All he ever cared about was winning - winning - winning. A real LOSER off-the-field too. No wonder he's headed for a second DIVORCE. LOUSY family man. The Hall of Fame does not make you a good person. He let it go to his head. I hope to GOD he never ever manages the CUBS. I'll become a Whie Sox fan. IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT BUT IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!!!!
  5. Confirmed by Hendry himself during an interview on the telecast.
  6. He'll likely bat him cleanup, and just for old time sake, sign a bad veteran shortstop to start for Castro. Neifi is available.
  7. Let's put the Fecal League chase on hold for one day and let Lou go out a winner. I think he deserves that despite our complaints about him this year.
  8. Yeah. He had his surgery in July 2008 but everything about his rehab seems to have been slow tracked. His recovery reminds me painfully of Luke Hagerty. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.
  9. With the Rays' injured starters set to return Hellickson has been sent down to high-A ball. He's expected to return in a bullpen role when rosters expand.
  10. It's beyond likely now, it's 100% certain. He was moved to the 60-day DL a day or so ago, and the season ends before the 60 days are up.
  11. Kudos to the Cubs' blowpen for giving it their best shot, but they just had too much of a lead to overcome. Oh well, come back and get 'em tomorrow. 1-6 would still be a productive week in the Fecal League standings.
  12. The Cubs' blowpen gave it their best shot today, but the lead was just too much to overcome. Oh well, they can still wrap up a productive 1-6 week tomorrow.
  13. AP poll has been released. Top 5 are Alabama, Ohio State, Boise State, Florida, and Texas.
  14. And if they did want to create another spot they could move Grabow to the 60-day DL since he's done for the season.
  15. He will if he's told to; otherwise he'd be in breach of contract and the Cubs would probably have the right to void the remainder of his contract. He might do a half-ass job of it, but he doesn't have the right to refuse to play the position.
  16. No, they did not. They recalled Fuld. As mentioned earlier in this thread they could not recall Hoffpauir yet since it hasn't been 10 days since he was sent down.
  17. Even many of us knew they couldn't bring Hoffpauir back yet.
  18. Reports that Hoffpauir is being recalled are probably erroneous. He has not spent the required 10 days in the minors since being sent down. The only way he can come up tomorrow is if the Cubs also make another move, placing somebody on the DL.
  19. Hopefully Jim Hendry.
  20. Because they're the Cubs, that's why.
  21. The Mets placed him on the disqualified list and don't plan to pay him until he's able to pitch again. They also plan to convert his contract from guaranteed to non-guaranteed. The players' union plans to file a grievance. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5471769
  22. I think the 1972 Dolphins would argue that, though. Starting QB Bob Griese misses most of the season with an injury, but the Dolphins still go 14-0 and win the Super Bowl. More often than not you're right, though.
  23. Patterson has landed on the 15-day DL with a strained neck, apparently a result of sleeping badly on the flight back from Texas. Only the ex-Cubs. :D
  24. Early Edition, NSBB style. Tomorrow's pitching matchups today, delivered to Fred's rig by a cat.
  25. THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! One of the most famous play-by-play calls in history. Thomson also played for the Cubs near the end of his career, in 1958 and 1959 (1960 was his last major league season).
