  1. Air Coryell has been permanently grounded at age 85.
  2. 9 Smokies made the SL All Star team. OF Tony Campana - starter C Robinson Chirinos - starter C Steve Clevenger 1B Blake Lalli - starter OF Ty Wright - promoted to AAA RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx LHP Ryan Buchter RHP David Cales RHP Hung-Wen Chen Two catchers from the same team both making the All-Star team has to be quite rare.
  3. According to Baseball Reference he was granted free agency in November and signed with the Cardinals in January.
  4. Didn't he already have Hill once this season? He did, but I think he was gone before this season. It's the Orioles that the Cubs traded him to.
  5. Somebody wake Andy MacPhail up. He's now let two ex-Cubs sign with the Red Sox.
  6. I think you would have caught me if you'd started Guthrie on Sunday rather than going with 6 starts.
  7. Benson is showing he's a true Bengal.
  8. So we have a Week 12 thread for Week 13. Sounds like the Big Ten. :D
  9. Confirmation from cubs.com. I knew a player could be called back up from the minors before ten days to replace a player placed on the DL. Apparently that also applies to the restricted list.
  10. The only way I see Z getting a lengthy suspension is if they can place him on the restricted list and replace him on the roster. There's a limit to how long they can effectively go with a 24-man roster during a stretch with no days off.
  11. Ah, sweet revenge against Karen for the whipping she gave me in another league a week or so ago.
  12. On overall prospect lists!? I meant the Cubs' list. I misread the post I was replying to.
  13. It wouldn't surprise me if he's #1 on the list.
  14. sounds like lou needs to prioritize better No argument from me on that. It does seem strange given his seeming apathy most of this year.
  15. Perhaps the reason Lou was so upset about Carlos having dinner with Ozzie is becoming clearer. Apparently Lou was supposed to have dinner that evening with his daughter, whom he hasn't seen for quite some time, but after the incident he was so upset he backed out of the dinner and stayed at home. And if Carlos is going to ruin Lou's dinner, dammit, he'd BETTER not be enjoying dinner himself.
  16. If he doesn't fire people after the season that might be a legitimate reason to get upset. Not firing people now isn't.
  17. Now I have something to look forward to when Tennessee comes back to Carolina. Unfortunately I don't think that's until the final series of the season (or at least close to it).
  18. UCLA vs. USC. Has an interesting ring to it.
  19. You mean even more of a non-issue (or even less of an issue).
  20. Pavano has put you very much back in it.
  21. This is game #20,000 in Cubs' history. They are the first franchise to play 20,000 games.
  22. Simple solution: Hire Jeff Gilooly to ensure that Zambrano truly is injured. :D It's really not that big of a deal, but just as a matter of principle to me it just seems wrong for anybody other than Z himself to have to bear consequences of his actions. But as I said in another post, unfortunately that's baseball sometimes.
  23. Unless somebody goes on the DL before then he must spend at least 10 days in the minors before he gets called back up. If the plan is to put someone on the DL to create a spot once he's rested he might not actually report to Iowa (players have 72 hours to report after being sent down).
  24. Confirmed on cubs.com, even though it isn't on the transactions list yet. The ONLY way this is a justifiable move is if they plan to place somebody (Schlitter or, better still, Zambrano himself) on the DL with a phantom injury and bring back Stevens after he's rested a couple of days. They CANNOT justify punishing Stevens by sending him down because Zambrano chose to tax an already worked bullpen. Zambrano, and nobody else, must bear the consequences of his actions.
